Your top 10 rewatch list

Post by JWR »

It's been a while since we have revisited this discussion.

If you were trapped on a desert Island with no hope of rescue what 10 anime series would you wish to have with you that are worth rewatching many times.

For me in no order

Ah My Goddess - always love the story and art

Ranma 1/2 - alway entertaining and fun

El Hazard Ova The Magnificent World - Top Flight story done well

Ai Yori Aoshi - art and story done well

The World of Narue - memorable characters and story

Nichijou - one needs at least one insane comedy

Demi-chan wa Kataritai "Interview with Monster Girls" - A new one to the list , something about the story we found enjoyable , good intro to anime for non fans

Love Chunibyo and other Delusions - Fun with a deeper story

Lucky Star - always enjoyable

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - memorable characters and story

So what would be on your current list?
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

Hmmm that's a hard one. I think it would include

1 ) Natsume's Book of Friends - Its a wonderful sweet story and just a great feel good show.

2 ) Mushishi - It has beautiful artwork and thoughtful stories.

3 ) Vampire Hunter D; Bloodlust - Love the action. Love the artwork; especially the cyborg horses. They are very well done. Many anime get the horses' movements wrong and they look unnaturally stiff or have gaits that don't exist. If only the VHD;B animators could have coordinated the riders' movement with the horses' movement a little better (I guess I'm overly picky about this). I have a lot of horse/riding experience so the problems in the other anime are very glaring to my eye.

4 ) Slayers - Makes me laugh every time.

5 ) Card Captor Sakura - This is another feel good show.

That's the top five that I like to watch over and over. If I had to add 5 more it would be

6 ) Fruits Basket
7 ) Initial D
8 ) Loveless - don't know why, but I do seem to go back an rewatch it a lot.
9 ) The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
10 ) Rurouni Kenshin (except that I can't stand some of the opening music)

Its strange that the list does not include more action shows. I really like action shows, but I admit that I tend not to rewatch them much.

My picks:

Kino's Journey--brooding and philosophical. Never the same show twice.

Neon Genesis Evangelion--for the same reason as Kino. Begs multiple viewings and deep analysis.

Serial Experiments Lain--memorable lead. Deep.

Pokemon: Indigo League--nostalgia, comedy, and heart

Detective Conan--at the edge for your seat suspense, great villains

Noir--the music, palpable atmosphere

Gunsmith Cats OVA--fluidly animated with memorable characters

Haibane Renmei--simply beautiful

Akira--not a series, but essential

Angel's Egg--again, not a series, but couldn't get along without it

Interesting question. I kind of like rewatching those self-sacrificing stories:

Macross : Do You Remember Love
Tenchi Muyo in Love
Macross Flashback 2012
Ranma

I get nostalgic rewatching those because they take me back to a simpler place. I used to watch those with my sister before she passed away in early 1997 (right before I began cel collecting).

Lupin III The Castle of Cagliostro ----- good fun
Macross Plus
Gunbuster
Tokimeki Memorial
Nausicaa

I guess it all comes down to the older series. :)

Wow, so many great answers. I guess it shouldn't be any surprise that cel collectors have good taste in anime. It's interesting, as I've aged I've found that many of the friends that I used to geek out over anime with have drifted away from the anime world. I still love going to cons and such, but it's been interesting to see myself end up well above the average age of attendees... I'm not all that old, but it's such a young fandom! I like that, it stays energetic.

Cel collectors, though... we're all kinda steeped in the older stuff, the hobby is necessarily frozen in the late 90s. I like it here, too.

I guess my 10 "desert island" anime would be:
Bubblegum Crisis
Natsume Yuujinchou
Patlabor
Gunbuster
Future Boy Conan
Macross: Do You Remember Love?
Dirty Pair
Mob Psycho 100
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Ghost in the Shell

Drama being the #1 factor for me, aside from game of thrones, In no particular order:

Mirai Nikki
fate/stay night
shingeki no kyojin season 1
Clannad
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Fate/zero
Code Geass season 2
Elfen Lied
Basilisk
Magi

Guess I'm one of those people that favors the digital stuff over the classic stuff.
