Need help picking a new series

Post by Prince Vegeta »

Hi guys,

I have just finished watching the complete uncut japanese dbz series for like the millionth time and let me say it was awesome.

But i'm thinking of starting on a new anime series. So i just wanted to get your opinions on a good series to watch. I basically loved the db/dbz series so anything close to that would be awesome. As you can tell i'm not aware of any other good japanese anime so i need some serious help from you guys.

Let me know what you think. The only thing that i would object to are series that are intended for female viewers (eg. sailor moon)....not that there is anything wrong with them :D

Cheers :D

So you want a fighting oriented series to watch next....

Here's my suggestions:

Yu Yu Hakusho
Naruto
Flame of Recca

Those are just a very few, but I'll let some others speak up too. :)

Hmmm... feels like I've done this before, but I'll just go ahead and post my same two cents:

Yu Yu Hakusho has a lot of dbz qualities to it, and is a great way to be slowly introduced into a new series.
Rurouni Kenshin is an incredible anime and one which I would recommend to anyone.
Inuyasha is also great, but has a ton of episodes.

Others which top my list are Blue Gender, Case Closed, Wolf's Rain (only once, though), X and Naruto.

I will second Pastatdude's first recommendation of Yu Yu Hakusho as a great next step from DBZ.

I think that all the others are must see series, but start with YYH

Yes YYH and RRK are great series to follow DBZ. But if you're looking for something shorter - try Outlaw Star. Or do you want to stay Earth bound? One Piece is loads of fun and lots of fighting. 8)

I second flame of Recca... it's a GREAT series with really fun characters and all that great fighting/action too. Also, you would probably like Naruto. I personally don't like YYH as much as these other shows... maybe because I saw Flame of Recca first, which is a similar show but a lot better 8)

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

Well, if you liked Fushigi Yuugi, you'd probably like Haruka naru toki no naka de, too. They're not really related, but they both share a few similarities such as a girl (and two of her friends) who gets sucked back in time where she becomes the Ryuujin no Miko...and she has 8 protectors... It's a great series. I found out about it maybe 2 years ago. There's all kinds of drama CDs, music CDs, mangas, and games available for it. The third Haruka PS2 game is coming out either in December or January, I believe, and it looks good as usual. But out of the three main stories, I still like the first one the best. I'm SO happy that they've finally decided to make a TV series out of it, and it's perfect! It's following the manga really well so far. I'm just curious who they'll pair Akane up with in the end. I hope it's Tenma!! *crosses fingers*

But if you want to know anything else about this series, just let me know and I'll try to describe it some more. =) There are some great seiyuu in it too... like Seki Tomokazu and Miki Shinichirou just to name a few.
