I always wondered if there were any other roleplayers on this forum.

It is nice to know.

If it wasn't for Gary and roleplaying I never would have met my husband. This man had an impact on people far beyond his creativity.

That was quite a shock when I saw that announcement. I still have the original three paperback short-form books that came with the original game set as well as set of well worn Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeonmaster's Guide and screen floating around the house somewhere. Does anyone out there remember Darkmoor or how wonderful having an AC of -10 was? Or the fabulously funny critical hit table out of one of the non TSR supplements, the Aruduin Grimoire? I've even a mint condition, original Gods, Demigods, and Heros, a full sized production book that was short lived because of the uproar of the religious community. Seemed to have a lot more time back then...

I first met Gary in Lake Geneva in the Basement of the Dungeon Hobby Shop in 1979. I turned down an offer to go to work for TSR in 1980.

I still have all the original books as well as Chainmail, the predecessor of Dungeons and Dragons.

I was in charge of all of the role playing games for Origins 1984 and many other conventions before and after.

Gary was fun to game with, as were most of the original guys. It is Gary that made D & D huge, even if Dave Arneson actually created the vast majority of the game. I was glad that they started talking to each other before the end, I'm sure that it made Gary happy.

I am sure he thought the had had a good life and left a family and lots of friends.

Colbert did a small tribute to Gygax the end of his show tonight.
Being the huge D&D fan he is, I had a feeling he would (still kinda choked me up though).

I think all Final Fantasy lovers-- heck ALL video gamers-- should have a moments silence for Mr. Gygax (can I call him Gary?). I feel quite sure if it weren't for him there'd be no call for a role-playing video game.

And if I'm alone in doing it- albeit two days late

- the so be it!
