Favorite Retro Video Game?

Post by Strictly-Dragonball »

Just wondering if anyone has a fav' game from the early days of console gaming? NES, SNES, Megadrive etc...

I used to LOVE Streets of Rage 2 on the Sega Megadrive when I was young. Beating up thugs to quality tunes can't be beat lol.

A bit rusty with 2 frames per minute, but really funny, especially with the BGMs that were perfectly fitting the game.

Atari 2600: Space Invaders, Pitfall, Pitfall 2, The Empire Strikes Back, Kaboom, Breakout
NES: Legend of Zelda, Mario 1, 2, & 3, Spyhunter, Contra, Tetris, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Gameboy: Super Mario Land

I think my #1 favorite classic was Legend of Zelda on the NES. I've beat that game at least 100 times, and have it on a disc for the GameCube. :) It never gets old. :D

Well Strictly-Dragonball as far as side scrolling beat em ups go you really can't beat Streets of Rage and 2 was the best. So your onto a winner there! 8)

I always found the old Amiga games were tops though, Syndicate really couldn't be beaten, but you also had games like Midwinter and Deuteros, which were all really cool strategy games and of course the Forgotten World. Infact as far as original gameplay concepts went I don't think Amiga games could be topped really. Something modern games developers should take note of.

I am a true blue Sonic the Hedgehog fan, so my favorites will always be the Sonic games on Sega Genesis. The first Sonic game I played was Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but my favorite might be Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with its lock on action wtih Sonic and Knuckles - the hype surrounding that game was so much fun. I was reading the Sonic comics at the time and totally got into it. Have you guys heard that Sega is coming out with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 this summer? It is 3D but scrolls across the screen like the classic Genesis games - I am so excited!

I also had fun playing Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo, Kid Chamelon, The Micheal Jackson video game for Genesis and of course Duck Hunt (I was really young when I first played that one). I never played much Mario - pretty much only when I went over to friends' houses.

EDIT: I totally forgot about Toe Jam and Earl and Echo the Dolphin!

NES, anything Super Mario.

I favorite game for the SNES is Super Mario RPG. It took my favorite character and exposed me to the goodness that is RPGs.

Playstation, Final Fantasy VII and VIII. (Thank you PS3 Store for selling these games online and introducing a new generation to classic RPGs.)

Iceman, I remember that music for stage 1 :D It really gears you up for the rest of the game. Me and my sis used to play the hell out of SOR 1 and 2 and Golden Axe when we were kids.

That music is cool but this is one reason why SOR 2 is epic!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggbBJSyq ... re=related

When that tune starts, you know s**t is about to go down LOL.

I actually got a custom Axel Stone figure from SOR 1 made last year as the games are so epic.

Yeah, Captain Haddock, SOR 2 is IMHO the king of beat em' up's, they just don't make games like that any more :(

Simple, but so much fun!

I have that Michael Jackson Sega game too, oddly enough it was actually a really fun game. Even though the concept was... MJ moonwalking through levels saving children while grabbing his crotch :?

Keep in mind though that game came out when Michael Jackson had the world at his feet, although looking back now it's strange lol.
