Original Video Game Promotional Items

Post by Strictly-Dragonball »

Does anyone own anything like this, by promo's I mean items that were ONLY given to shops and stores that were meant to help promote the game such as cardboard stands, posters or displays.

They are never for public sale and made in limited quantities making them very rare.

I have a few things, a Tombi! (known as Tomba! in the US) promo poster that I got myself from a GAME UK store back in 1998 when it was released.

Tombi! is a cult classic these days, one of my favorite games ever and I have seen the original game PAL version go for well over £80 before. It's sought after and popular.

I have never seen another Tombi! poster and probably never will it was a very niche title. I have had a lot of interest in it when I've shown it to collectors before and I imagine a fan would be very excited to see some promo materials from the game.

I also have a Final Fantasy 7 3D store display stand and a Final Fantasy 13 poster.

Promo's from popular games can get very expensive, the FF7 display for example cost me $200 and I once saw one from Super Metroid sell on eBay for over $1,200 recently! 8O

There are only a few titles that have mainstream demand and are actually marketable I think, Mario and Zelda along with any vintage Nintendo pieces, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear.

Anything else doesn't really have the demand as people are only just starting to take notice of these items and collect them.

Does anyone else have anything?

My cel-senpai main collecting bug besides cels is
anime promo posters and phone cards. So any anime
that he collects posters for, if there was a game for it,
he more than likely has its promo not-for-sale B2 poster
and phone card as well. :P
Off the top of my head :
Kino's Journey
Ghost Hound
GITS (all of them)
Lain
Azumanga Daioh
Naruto (2 of the original games)
Naruto Shippuden (just 1)
Baccano
Jigoku Shoujo

Thats all I can remember that have a game poster.
I know he has a bazillion more but cant remember.

Dunno if thats whatyou meant. :shrug Neither of us are big
gamers so we don't have anything strictly game merch
unless it came from an anime title we enjoyed.

The only exception for myself is Suikoden 3-- absolutely
loved the game. So I have a japanese promo poster for that.
I have no clue of its value and could care less, I just couldnt
find anything for it at the time. Imagine my surprise to find
out thatit was so popular it later spawned a manga series
LOL!

I have a few. Most notable are some displays from FF and Zelda, one from Secret of Mana. It's been quite awhile since I last collected any but only one I have paid money for, the rest was just good terms with the employees at FuncoLand/GameStop.

Oh man, Funcoland... I loved that store.

I think all I have promo wise is the Tales of Legendia lanyard that was given to Gamestop employees. :P

I collect signed games. Have a bit of a collection. I like to be able to see the names of these amazing artists, and try and give credit where credit is due.
