It's passed on to different hands every year, which is how I think it should happen next year. It would also be nice if no one "claimed" it now . . . no offense, but it seemed a little rude when someone volunteered this year to run the thing but that position had already been taken in '06--without the rest of the community knowing. *shrug*

Thanks for all your hard work, Zetsuai, WC, NSP, and syan. :)

I agree with Klet, next year is far away, I believe its best to first focus on this Beta awards and decide who will be running it sometime next year when its closer to the beta awards 08

I apologize for making the suggestion, it does make sense to pass it on to different people every year. No biggie. :D EOP, you're very right.

The claim was not made last year, it was simply talked about. I didn't even know people remembered the conversations. If anyone, including Joe, had said they would prefer to do it instead, I would have offered my assistance or stepped aside. I didn't mean to offend anyone but I didn't receive a single complaint or concern from anyone, so how else would I know how you or others felt?

I sincerely apologize. :(

I have to say I agree with klet...

I don't know about anyone else, but I also find it a bit disconcerting that the domain name "betaawards.com" has been registered -- while its cute and all, its completely not necessary. The Beta awards has always been voluntarily run by someone (usually new) every year - and if anyone should "own" the beta awards domain name, it should be the same folks who own the anime-beta domain, so it remains somewhat neutral. The idea of one of beta's members owning the name could cause spats in the future if the tradition of folks voluntarily running the awards and using their own hosting continues. I understand those who run Beta have chosen to take a hands-off approach to the awards (and probably very wisely so), but in this case I think a neutral party would be best for holding a domain name that may (and should) be pointed to different locations each year for the awards site.

Just my two cents... I'll hush up now before someone gets annoyed with me. :O

I appreciate all the effort by WC, Zetsuai, and company for this year's awards :yay, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The messiest part is still to come.

Also, is it just me or does the awards site load really slow for anyone else? I'm on a high speed connection too... :?

Just so there is no misunderstandings.

I had no problem with WC and others handling things and I do echo the fact that they have done a top notch job with it.

True most including myself did not clearly remember a year ago who said what. I did talk to Goldknight and others offering to take it on this year if no one else wished to so as to insure the awards continued.

When WC and others said they were planning to handle it I was ok with that and had no problem stepping aside and offering any help I could. My only consern was that it go back to being fun for both the partisipants and those running it.

I really wish I hadn't made the suggestion at all. I really am sorry for saying anything now.

I thought the domain would make things easier for the contest. After the voting and the awards are given out, the URL was set to expire in one year. I did not intend to keep it, since the site is actually hosted on Sajora's site. I'm so sorry for that confusion. :(

I have to say one thing at this point. I apologize for everything I did or said to offend anyone. I was just trying to make the awards nice and now I fear I've ruined it.

Joe, I appreciate the assistance you've given me during this process because you were one of the people who PMed me with ideas and suggestions.

Do you have to go to school for that?

As I said, you can probably nevermind my thoughts. :P

As for the site loading slowly.. I'll elaborate a tad: most sites load for me in fractions of a second. As in, I could BLINK and they load while my eyes are closed. This one takes several seconds to load and I can watch the image files slowly display (now I'm talking the index page, not the entries pages) --not that its a huge problem, just wondering if its only me or if anyone else has this too. It could simply be an issue of my ISP and the route the data has to take to reach me.

You've done absolutely nothing wrong, WC, no need to apologize :friends: Y'all have done an incredible job with this project and it's obvious that y'all took everyone's opinions into consideration :^^:

Regarding future Beta awards, I see nothing wrong with these organizers letting us know that they'd be happy to host it again. I find it commendable that they're willing to put forth the time and effort that goes into these awards more than once. This isn't to say that nobody else is deserving or capable of hosting these awards. It's just nice to see people who care enough about it to want to host it again :)

About the registering of betaawards.com, is it really that big of a deal? If I recall correctly every year the Beta awards has been hosted using a different URL. And I think it's pretty obvious that the people who registered the domain are reasonable adults, so the chances of them taking their ball and leaving Beta high-and-dry are very slim LOL :P I don't have an issue at all with this.

Like I said earlier, y'all did a fabulous job with this years' awards. Thanks a bunch ^_^

- RalphVboy

P.S. Oh, the site loads up fine for me! Maybe it was slow at a certain time?

Don't worry so much. :) It just seemed at the beginning of the thread like the job of running the awards had been "claimed" last year. I just think that it should pass on to a new person's hands if someone else wants to do it (so that it remains something that the community can participate in all aspects of the contest, including leadership). Naturally, if no one else wants to step up to the plate, and you and Zetsuai are still willing to organize the awards, then by all means, do so. It's just a bit too early to be worrying about that.

Confusion comes because we don't really know what's going on behind the scenes. So, the only way to clear it up is to explain, as you did above about the domain name. :D Thanks.

Also, thanks again to everyone involved. :friends:

Wow. Took longer than I thought for things to get snippy. A testament to Toni's patience.

Listen people, I don't think it is Toni's intent to hijack the Betaawards domain. I am sure she is more than willing to give access to anyone who wishes to do it next year. However, I think Toni should have the option to do it again. I can tell you, first hand, that this is not a task you take on lightly. Just because Toni has been very cordial and patient toward everyone does not mean she isn't getting a ton of grief on her end. She just hides it better than most. If she wants to go through this again next year, I am all for it.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.
