It's nice to see who owns some of these awesome cels. Like others have said, I have some new galleries to check out.

Also, thanks to all the members who entered and made this a successful event.

Congrats to all the winner! :)

A Massively huge thanks to Angelic-Lair, Belldandy & Midnite Kitten (and everyone else who contributed!!) - this was my first A.Beta awards & I really enjoyed it. For me, it was fun seeing everyone's different Cels & their interpretation on the themes they entered.
I realise organising something of this magnitude with a devoted following across many continents may sometimes seem like a thankless task, with criticisms coming thick & fast, but I think you guys did an exceptional job!!

Congrats to all of the winners too!!

The "Aussie contingent" didn't do too badly - I think between Alyssium & I we managed to come away with 7awards? :)
Roll on next year's awards.

Congratulations to all winners and many thanks to the organisers who did an amazing job. I am impatient to see what the actual awards look like.

I am very happy that my pan cel of Kanoe won the Death/Dying award. Is "most votes" an additional award or is this just displayed as an information?

Now, because I am a perfectionist, I would like to add a little thinking to these results. It seems to me that the compulsory (small) image size disadvantages the biggest cels. For example, I submitted a massive cel (24x16 inches), which I believe is the most detailed cel I have ever seen, entirely hand-traced. If you could see it in person you would realise it beats my pan cel of Kanoe by a mile. The artwork is just stunning.

Image

However, due to the 600-pixel wide image, it did not look nearly as great and logically it did not win. My cel was indeed beaten by 2 cels, including one whose artistic qualities (in my opinion) do not compare at all with the cel of Kotori - not everyone may agree, we can talk about this:

I think we should question whether the cel contest is just about the image (if so, we might as well submit screen captures), or also the quality of the artwork - in which case it would be fair to display very big images so that everyone can observe the finest details of the cels and make a fair judgment.
In the current situation, we could not make a distinction between the original of Mona-Lisa and a 5x3 inches reproduction of the same picture.
Had the contest taken place in a room with all the cels framed on a wall, it seems obvious to me that the results would have been completely different and that is a bit of a shame.
My suggestion: all the images should be at the same scale, maybe 1:1 or 1:2, instead of having the same size.

Olivier, maybe you didnt win because Kotori isnt really in a "tranquility" state :D

We want to thank everyone for their really nice comments and once again, congratulations to the winners! :vict

Most Votes is an additional award given to the item that received the most votes in all of the categories, so you get two awards for the Kanoe pan cel. /no1

Regarding your size concern, we'd just like to point out that it probably isn't as big of a factor as you might think, since both small and big pieces won awards. Your Kanoe pan, because it is a huge pan, was limited in terms of size and the details could not be seen as well. Yet it won 1st place and got the most votes. Your Kotori cel was the biggest cel in the Tranquility category, so if size was all that mattered, you would have had the advantage .

Having said that, let us continue the celebration! :bny :bny :bny

Oh wow, I didn't think I would win anything let alone get first in one category and 3rd in two others.

Congrats to the winners and thank you to everyone that was involved in organizing the awards.

I have to say... I'm really thrilled to be the first place winner of the Robot category for a third year in a row!! :D Also, if anyone can ID my 2nd place background, I'd be grateful. 8)

I think it's important that some remember that the Beta Awards is a subjective contest. A lot of us have learned over the years that others do not see our cels the same way that we do, and this contest has a way of letting you know that. As others have pointed out -- size does not always matter, and nor does artistic quality, necessarily. For many of us who vote, what matters most is how well the image depicted matches up with the category description. ;) Remember, this is supposed to be a fun contest. ;)

Olivier - Perhaps your size complaints are valid. Perhaps not. But now is not the time to bring them up. When next year’s awards are starting, if you want to bring up your suggestion - then do it. Right now, it just seems petty to insinuate that you lost only because all your cel’s detail could not be fully seen. Just think of all the people who didn’t place at all, and you’re complaining because you only got third? You don’t seem grateful. There are a ton of reasons why people vote the way they do, and larger images would make no difference in many of those cases. Some actually vote for the best representation of the category, some vote for series they know, some vote for their friend’s cels (or their own, I’m no different), some wont vote for cels of people they don’t like, etc... You can’t control it. Is that always fair? Not in the least. But it’s the nature of the game.

And I’ll admit something right now. Most of the time, I don’t look at anything past thumbnails. I only view larger images if I’m really stuck. So it doesn’t matter to someone like me. If the cel doesn’t hit me over the head embodying the nature of it’s category in it’s thumbnail, then it’s probably not going to do the same in a larger image. But that’s just me. Other people probably put a lot more time into their choices. They may agree with you, but I think what you’re suggesting would be hard to put into practice.

Stating that one of the cels that beat yours doesn’t compare artistically is rude. I’m assuming it’s mine you’re speaking of since the Raphael seems more detailed to me. Perhaps I’m wrong. Please correct me if I am, and I apologize for what I’m about to write if so. I’m sure if you asked anyone which of our two cels which is more detailed and striking, people would pick yours. I would too. But since that wasn’t the category criteria, the point is moot. It’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it, as is anyone. But I would hope most people would have the good graces enough not to post it publicly on a forum. It’s like telling someone their baby is ugly, it may be true but it’s just not done. It was rather hurtful (even if it is true) and I spent most of the morning hovering between pissed off and on the verge of tears. I bought my cel for a very personal reason, which I wont get into, so it stung.

That said, thank you again to the people who voted for me. I appreciate it. :) Congrats to all the other winners as well. And I’m sorry for my long winded post. I’ll leave you all alone now. ^.^
