Anime-Beta TNG

Maybe we should start deciding what catagories we want? That way, while others are deciding if they want to volunteer for the 2008 Beta Awards, we can also work on ironing out the catagories for artwork submissions.

Of course, if everyone was completely satisfied with 2007's catagories, problem solved!

If we go by last year's time frame, I guess that means that we'll conclude the process by the first/second week of December. The last week of November is Thanksgiving week for many Beta members, so that might be a big conflict of interest.

Last year's catagories and acceptable artwork submissions:

Categories:

C = Cel, S = Sketch, R = Rilezu, H = Hanken, P = Painting, O = Other

Accessory - Emphasis on what the character is holding, using, swinging, playing, aiming. (C, S, R)
Action - Scenes of action, movement, motion, dynamism (C, S, R)
Animated Sequence - Voting optional. Entries do not count toward 5 entry limit. (C, S)
Background - No characters allowed. (C, S, P)
Children - Youths, babies, kids. (C, S, R)
Comic/Manga - Original art from comic artists and mangakas (S, P, O)
Creature - Animals, monsters, pets, demons. (C, S, R)
Cute - Adorable, precious, toothache inducing. (C, S, R)
Embarrassed - Blushing, mortified, awkwardness, total humiliation. (C, S, R)
Fan Art - Made by you or another artist. (C, S, P, O)
Female - The fairer sex. (C, S, R)
Funny - Laugh out loud moments. (C, S, R)
Group - Art of 2 or more characters. (C, S, R)
Hanken - Art used for merchandise or other non-production special circumstances. Hankens are not allowed in any other category. (C, S, H, P, O)
Harmony - Unique combinations of line work and watercolor used to convey deep emotion and profound artistry. (C, S, P)
Hentai - Sexually explicit & nude, voting optional. (C, S, R)
Heroic - White knight saves the day. (C, S, R)
Insanity - Irrational delirium, totally crazy. (C, S, R)
Joy - Extreme happiness. (C, S, R)
Male - Boys, guys, men, bishonens. (C, S, R)
Outfit - Best dressed, emphasis on clothes and costumes. (C, S, R)
Rage - Mad, angry, extreme agitation. (C, S, R)
Robot - Our mechanical friends. (C, S, R)
Romance - Kissing, hugging, groping, anything non-explicit. (C, S, R)
Shocked - Stunned, horrified, utter dismay. (C, S, R)
Sorrow - Tear jerkers, sadness. (C, S, R)
Villainous - Archenemies, evil scientists, meanies, wicked bad guys. (C, S, R)

I think those are great Categories!!!

whoa, no wonder it needs so many volunteers!

id love to help but im not sure what i could do. im not too knowledgeable with html. i do have a friend though that is great with graphics. he could make a trophy and i could post it here if you guys like it to use it (or is someone already doing trophies?)

do you guys have different trophies for different catagories?

All Cels and art does not have to be uploaded to Rubberslug.

It can be in your own private collection.

The only condition is that you own the art yourself!

Well, I'm going to sit back on this for a week to allow people time to weigh in with whatever changes to catagories they'd like to see and/or if they'd like to volunteer.

So, here's some questions I'd like to bring up and please feel free to weigh in.

1) In all previous(that I can recall) Beta Awards, you were able to submit 1 entry for any five catagories of your choosing. Is this amount ok with everyone?

2) Last year, you were able to submit a total of 5 artwork pieces(one per catagory), with the animated catagory being an optional. I also would like to suggest that the Hentai catagory also be an optional catagory, as not many people own hentai artwork and it is(or was) an optional catagory to vote in. Yay or Nay?

3) Shall we keep the 'Animated' catagory optional, or do we want to count it towards the agreed alotted amount?

4) Should we keep the harmony catagory or should it be replaced with something else, such as a 'Bank' cels? I ask because not as many people own harmony cels when compared to bank cels, so there would be more submissions and great competition.

5) As most artwork has moved to CG, shall we have a 'Layout' catagory this year?

Yes I think this is amount ok with everyone, but I'm not completely sure.

any more and i bet it would get too overwhelming.

im not sure too many people have their things animated so i think it should be optional.

All works for me. I'd just like to be able to actually enter this year!

1. The categories from last year were really cool and complete. 1 entry for 5 categories with a total of 5 pieces max to submit is plenty enough.

2. Animated should be mandatory to vote and counted as a normal category. Hentai may be optional to vote as some people may prefer to not see those cels.

3. Animated as 1 normal category and counted on the 5 entries.

4. Harmony could also be replaced by HANKEN cels

5. 1 new category Layout is a good idea.

You sould not make too many changes as it can takes a lot of time to do it.

Hmmm...how about one catagory for both hanken and harmony cels?

We could call it the 'H' catagory!

But maybe that might be too complicated as the style of both catagories is different...?

Just realised that the hanken category was already IN last year. Better to seperate them as the sytle is completely different.

So you would have 2 new categories BANK cels and Layout.

I'd like to let other members weigh in the catagories before I add two more catagories(Layout & Bank) to the list. As is, there are 27 catagories availble. With Layout and Bank, that would bring it up to 29. I really hesitate to go over 30, considering the amount of participants and the limit to 5(with possibly hentai & animated being optional) submissions per applicant. Last year, as I recall, some catagories had less than 8 submissions.

If I add bank and layout to the list, then, similiar to the hanken catagory, I'd like to limit the submissions of bank and layout artwork to their own respective catagories.
