_________

Well, November now, time to slowly arrange the cel celebration.

Offering my skills to manage this event and its graphic design. Purposal is to maintain categories current standards.
In addition, in order to cut off any claim according to litigious aspects on the 2011 sketch contest, main idea would be to create a RS gallery and to manually cast votes (even maybe to publish them, in order to avoid any existing claim).

Comments welcome.

Old system demonstrated breaches and opened a flamewar, then I do think that manual operations would avoid issues.
(Just a matter of a hundred mail to catch, not that a pain compared to daily stream in a standard mailbox).

I'll help count votes and other non-techie things. My online course now has a grade book that automagically calculates grades, but I still maintain a paper record of my own and run them through my grad-school-era pocket calculator to avoid difficulties. To err is human, but to really screw things up you need an OS.

Great to see good reactions about this celebration planning.

As I do arrange for years several contest linked to anime raw material and had a look in the early contest record in dedicated Rubberslug galleries, I do think this is the fastest way to act and to cut down claims about vote casting. I'll be then honored to take charge of operation management, and potentially site graphics/trophies design (or not if specifically requested by a team member). In addition, in order to start faster the competition, site interface would be in english language only (basically anime-beta is a native english language forum, making implicity to read/understand english) based on previous contests listings popular classic and optionnal categories.

All people willing to help are of course welcome, small team management (about 5/6 persons), motivated, once part of the team you can be sick or have any issue, just inform the team and ask for backup support.
All informations will be publicly visible on the Anime Beta forum, vote casting controlled by multiple persons.

Celebration starts on Nov. 7, schedule and details to come.
Comments open.

I thought I should probably mention this to you if you didn't know already, before planning gets too far along. I remembered when putting things in my gallery all through last month, Rubberslug was having problems with uploading animated GIF's and has since it moved to the new site awhile back. Since it still doesn't allow any GIF's to be posted as of my checking today, I'm guessing this will likely severely impact the Animated catagory. I'm not sure if you knew or if you have an idea to deal with this, but I figured I'd bring it to your attention.

This is irritating, but not fatal to the cel awards, as the animations do not have to be displayed at Rubberslug to be eligible. You just need to have physical possession of the sketches you animate, and, if necessary, you can upload a sampling of still scans to your RS site as proof of this.

BTW, I have (with a few exceptions) imported animated gifs to RS from my Photobucket image storage account. If you include the html (which Photobucket helpfully writes for you) as the first line of your description, it will show up on the page almost exactly like it would if you'd successfully uploaded it to Rubberslug.

The only trick is that you do need to upload something as your "large image," or an "image unavailable" [X] image will appear on the page. So you save a single pixel of some color (I use blue) and upload that as the "large image." It's indetectable on the page, since everyone is looking at the animation below it.

I use the same method when uploading animated gifs, but I never choose a "large image". I never got that error.

Dear Yuri chan, thank you for your technical information and to both Sensei & Yupa for having solve this potential issue.
Fortunnaly "animated" is a recurrent optionnal category.

Current 2011 celebration staff according to current forum posts:
- Iceman57: COO & design
- Sensei: Quality insurance / Technical
- Yupa: Technical / To be defined (be kind to claim for a desk position, can be multiple)
- D123: Vote casting / To be defined (be kind to claim for a desk position, can be multiple)
- Empty slot
- Empty slot

Required missions are:
- "Previous year submitted arts checker"
- "Vote casting controller"
- "RS gallery designer"
- "Trophies designer"
... - Rest to be defined.

I can help with counting votes and/or uploading on the RS gallery. I'm not good at art design.

According to your note about how to handle animated pictures on RS, sounds an excellent position

Current 2011 celebration staff according to current forum posts:
- Iceman57: COO & design (RS / trophies)
- Sensei: Quality insurance / Vote casting & control / Technical
- Yupa: RS Upload leader / Vote casting & control / Technical
- D123: Vote casting & control / To be defined (be kind to claim for a desk position, can be multiple)
- Empty slot
- Empty slot

Double or triple control of voting is in my opinion the best way to avoid any embryon of claim.

I can do some graphic design (I have Photoshop and ImageReady 7 I've been playing..umm self teaching with :D ) but I feel I’m an amateur at best compared to the nice work you’ve done Iceman57 :emb

I’m fine with taking charge of voting, uploading or emails :D

Naahhh, don't make me shy, just a decade and thousands of hours practicing, that's just a matter of time :)
Started as a teenager with the first Photoshop 3.0 release on PC (at this time no layers existing), now father of one equiped in the office with CS5.
