ELIGIBILITY RULES

1.) You must be a registered member of Anime-Beta by the start of the submission process.
2.) You must physically own all artwork that you submit. You may not submit artwork which has been sold, or for which a sale is pending. Submitted artwork does not have to be posted in your online gallery.
3.) Submitted artwork may not include watermarks or any other type of 'tag' that could affiliate it with a gallery or owner.
4.) If you submit artwork for consideration in this contest, you must vote for all categories. The only exceptions are the optional categories (animated, hentai, settei). These categories are both optional to vote in and optional to submit artwork to. However, you submit artwork to an optional category, you must vote in that category.
5.) Even if you do not submit artwork, you may still vote in any or all of the categories.

SUBMISSION RULES

1.) Participants are eligible to enter the contest in 6 standard categories and 6 optional categories, for a total of 12 pieces of artwork submitted.
2.) While a participant may choose to enter 12 pieces of artwork, you are not required to submit twelve items. You may enter fewer items.
3.) In order to cut down on bandwidth usage, please limit your entries to the following dimensions:

Standard: 600 pixels wide, 300kb in size
Horizontal pan: 800 pixels wide, 300kb in size
Vertical pan: 800 pixels high, 300kb in size
Animated: same pixel restrictions as above, size limit is increased to 800k.

4.) Artwork which was previously entered into the Anime-Beta Awards is eligible for re-entry, provided that the winning piece has changed owners. If you choose to submit a previous winning piece, you must e-mail the contest coordinator before submitting it. This way, the organizer knows the piece has changed owners and that it is a qualified entry. If you do not e-mail the coordinator, your entry will be disqualified. Please check previous awards websites carefully.
5.) Sequence mates of previous winners will be allowed if there is a substantial difference between the two. Please inform the contest coordinator which piece you are submitting a sequence mate of. You may not submit a sequence mate if you also own the previous winning piece.
6.) Sequence mates in the same category are not permitted. Whoever submits the artwork first will be given a spot in that category. If you submit a sequence mate to an item that is already in a category, you will have the chance to re-submit another item in lieu of the repeated piece.
7.) If a category has only four entries, only #1 and #2 awards will be given. If a category has only three entries, only a #1 award will be given. Categories with fewer than three entries 24 hours before the beginning of voting will be eliminated. Contestants will have the chance to re-submit artwork to another category.
8.) INDUSTRY ART: If an industry artist signed something that is not a standard shikishi board/blank piece of paper, only the signature and any original accompanying artwork are allowed to be submitted.
9.) ANIMATED ART: Animated submissions may only include that which was part of the original studio animated sequence.

Rilezu are fully eligible for all categories except for one of the optional ones. So sketch collectors are welcome! In any case, if all goes well we should have a sketch contest later this year. So hang around!

Hold on, I'm a bit confused. I thought rilezu were promotional cels not sketches??

This sounds like it will be an amazing contest. I do have a question I own a cel that was part of a movie but after all the cels were created the movie was scrapped and there were cels. I was wondering what category is any would that production cel be considered in .

Please if anyone has any idea I would appreciate it a lot .

Thanks

The consensus of the organizers is that, yes, such a cel would be eligible, provided it was created with the intention of being used in an animated movie, even if that movie were never released. This situation also applies to cels that were made for scenes in anime works, which were cut or trimmed in length during final editing (I have several of these) so that the cel in question does not actually appear in the officially released version.

If it were a test cel for a film never actually made (as with the cels made by Miyazaki/Takahata for the abandoned 1971 Pippi Longstocking project), then it would also be eligible, but in this case only under the optional "Settei" category.

Random note: I've corrected the spelling of "In a Sticky Situation" on the official site, which should be ready for posting today. ;)

STARTING SOON! GET READY!

So everyone is clear: the cel contest (barring a last minute website problem) will begin accepting entries at midnight tonight.

The "home" time zone will be CENTRAL STANDARD TIME, USA

So the opening time at midnight tonight (a minute after 11:59 PM Sunday night and a minute before 12:01 AM Monday morning) will convert to:

06:00 UTC/GMT Monday morning
01:00 AM Monday morning EASTERN STANDARD TIME
10:00 PM Sunday night PACIFIC STANDARD TIME
06:00 AM Monday morning LONDON, UK LOCAL TIME
07:00 AM Monday morning PARIS, FRANCE LOCAL TIME
07:00 AM Monday morning BRUSSELS, BELGIUM LOCAL TIME
03:00 PM Monday afternoon TOKYO JAPAN LOCAL TIME
05:00 PM Monday afternoon MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA LOCAL TIME

Entries will be accepted for one week and the deadline for entering the contest will be exactly one week later at midnight (CST) Sun. Jan. 27/Mon. Jan. 28.

Remember to resize your applications according to the submission rules above. That is, images of standard-sized cels must be 600 px. wide, and those of pan cels must be no larger than 800 px. on the longer side (vertical or horizontal) and no larger than 600 px. on the shorter side.

No application can be more than 300 kb in size. (Entries in the optional ANIMATED category must honor the same guidelines in width and length, but may be up to 800 kb in size.)

Be sure to check your entries before you begin your application. Entries that are larger than allowed will be reduced in size to fit the guidelines. But entries that are smaller than the guidelines will be posted as submitted.

Problems? Contact the administrators at ab2013celawards[at]mail.com.

Could you explain what you mean by this? How would production sketches be accepted if Rilezu are? Are you informing me not to submit to the cel contest and to wait for the sketch contest? Sorry, that sentence is making my head spin! :D

I meant that if you are a sketch collector and have a rilezu (most sketch collectors do, including me), then you can certainly submit your rilezu in nearly any category just as if it were a cel that went under the camera to make a cel-based series.

If you don't have any rilezu, then restrain your soul in patience, for with any luck, this contest will be a roaring success and people will at once start making plans to follow it with a sketch contest along the same lines. Generally the cel contest has been held in the winter and the sketch contest in the summer.

If you go to the board index and scroll down to the bottom, you'll see where the threads for the sketch contest have been archived, and you can see how they have worked in the past.

Could you add the link to the contest web site to the first entry in this topic to make it easy to find? Thank you.
