2011 Anime Beta Sketch Awards Rules & Info

Has anybody tried to see the winners this morning?

All we can say is... WTF!?
Some of us never took part in this issue but now all of the Beta contestants are being punished and put so much effort into the contest for nothing.
The way this was done in our opinion was rather childish. If the host wanted out, he could at least have transferred the code to another Beta user.

Cutiebunny, if there is any way the winners can be retrieved, we would like to volunteer to use our server space to get them back up.

Ummm... I can see the winners just fine.

Are you guys clicking on "View Entries by Category" or "View Winners by Category?" You want to view winners, the entries are empty now.

Ummm.. at the moment, I can't see ANYTHING on the site -- no menu, no nothing but the banner and background. As if everything is missing ... but no errors either.

EDIT: Nevermind. I can see our contest host is upset with what happened.

It's not a site error, folks.
When we checked the site first thing this morning we found that the host had taken it down and replaced it with a single page expressing his views on the whole "blackmail" incident.
The winners were intentionally removed. The page stated that clearly.
It went back to normal for a brief period before going completely blank.

Gabe: Each contest has a coordinator. That person is in charge of making the even run smoothly and handling any problems which arise. How they choose to handle those problems is at their own discretion.

I coordinated the 2010 Sketch Awards and everything (as far as we know) ran smoothly. There was no obvious cheating, so there was no need for any kind of announcement. If you have issues with previous rule breakers not being named, then you need to contact that particular award's coordinator. In the past 10+ years there have been a number of people who volunteered for this position and ran awards contests.

A shame. Especially as the only thing that is at stake here is the respect and good will of members of this community.

Ah, well: I only participated because I enjoy seeing everyone else's treasures. If I had a trophy coming it's no great loss. But alas for the perpetrator. Respect, like all really valuable things, is free and can't be sold or transferred, but very difficult to obtain and impossible to recover once it's lost.

When I was teaching, I'd try to explain this to my students, who were always finding some sneaky way to get around Ol' Prof. by trying some new way to cheat. It's fun, but once people know you have to cheat to appear as good as anyone else, that image sticks like tar and sticks for life. You can try to hurt other people who call attention to the tar on your face, but you can still see it yourself in the mirror.

So, now the US collectors have something against Europeans? When 2 of the 3 contest organizers this year were European? And when the only other cheater to ever be publicly named was American? (Starfighter, from the 2008 awards, and as far as we know, the only other cheater period) Meh.

Congrats to all those who participated, another to all those who won, and thanks to all the contest organizers!!! Thanks, also, to all those who voted for my pieces.

All I can say is that the members of this board did not deserve to wake up to this.

What an awesome stunt to pull, Gabe. Way to conjure up any sympathy for you on the board.

I don't know if I'm the only one that feels this way, but I tire of seeing the "I am not a native English speaker" excuse every time someone gets caught. There are people on this board that can speak and write in several different languages. If you have a question, ask them. Most people here are understanding and will help you if you ask them nicely. And if you feel too embarrassed to do that, there are free sites on the internet that translate words into other languages. Zetsuai - Your votes in this contest were deleted because you cheated and were informed that you would not be allowed to vote in this contest before you voted.

Once the graphics are out and the rest of the awards period concludes, I'll create a poll where everyone can vote as to what punishment, if any, should be given to both Gabe and Zetsuai. If you have any suggestions as to appropriate consequences (if any) and/or how to appropriately conduct this, please feel free to PM or e-mail me.

All in all, despite the actions of a couple of members, that the rest of the awards went smoothly and that so many members were able to walk away with an award. Seeing members win is my favorite part of the awards period. I know the graphic doesn't have any monetary value, but if it brightens one person's day, then, to me, it's worth the headache of organizing the awards.

And, as always, a big 'thank you' to those who voted for my items. There were lots of great submissions this year, and I didn't expect to win anything.

Honestly instead of looking for people to crucify in public, why not look on the bright side of life.
There is no complaint at FBI I3C (internet crime section) for a non money rewarded contest, so I do believe that Anime Beta community will not collapse.

As it was so hard to find and unite a team and setup this contest, will it not be better to focus in priority on coming months cel contest?
I do offer skills for trophies and graphics if approved by coming staff.

I believe it is from Cardcaptor Sakura. It looks like Fujitaka Kinomoto?
