zerospace wrote:Yupa, what program are you using to do your animation editing? You should be able to use Adobe ImageReady's optimization features to come out with a nice looking animation that meets the file size requirements.
I'm using the optimation feature of Jasq Animation Shop 3, with which I created the animation as well. But like I said, even with the lowest quality it's still too big. I also tried a program called GIF Optimizer, but that didn't work at all. I'll cut out some frames then.

EDIT: Finally I have a version which is exactly 800 KB. :D I found out that both reducing the colors and changing the width to 500 px reduced the file size very much.

The Submission Period is now Open!!

Here's the site - http://www.gabe.ch/award-sketch2011/index.php

I'll shut down the submissions at 10pm PST on Sunday, September 3. Please prepare at least one back-up item in the event that one of your selected categories is eliminated due to low entry count.

Looks great! :hello

I have a small suggestion. When viewing entries in a category in previous contests there is a compare button where you need to click the checkboxes under the artwork you want to see on one page. But maybe you could also make a button to view all artwork on one page? That prevents having to click all checkboxes.
Or maybe even better and easier: a "Check All" button which you could make with JavaScript, like this example.

Considering the site scripting was originally mine, that's a great idea (I've done the JS check all links before)... but I've pretty much decided I'm not working on it anymore. If someone else wants to update the code, though, I'm ok with that ;).

BTW -- Nice job, Gabe! Looks great! :)

If a cel has won an award in the past during the Cel Awards, are we allowed to enter its matching sketch into the Sketch Awards?

I was in the process of submitting my entries, but I got stuck on the Animated category. According to the rules the maximum file size is 800 KB, however the website only allows animated gifs up to 600 KB. Please change this, I don't want to make my gif smaller and reduce the quality again. :l

Also, besides the standard size and the two pan sizes we can choose for "Oversized". When should we choose this?

Wow! The site looks great! :bounce
Can't wait to submit!
On a side note... the French translation is somewhat off (hentai = sex??). :?

Maybe for the next round we can add that.
I will look in to it later on.

@Yupa try again.

standard size for a sketch with a normal size
Oversized are for the pan shots.

I can help clear a few things up here ;).

Here's the deal with the pan and oversized choices during submission:

1) Oversized will use image width to determine whether or not the image needs to be automatically re-sized by the software.
2) Horizontal pan does the same as oversized.
3) Vertical pan will check the vertical height rather than width to determine re-sizing needs.

The site will automatically re-size an image if it exceeds the physical dimensions set by the organizers. The organizers also have a re-sizer at their disposal on-site if you submit a regular sized sketch using the pan size options. Do not exceed the physical dimensions with animated entries, because if the site re-sizes your animation, the animation will be lost. I did not have the time nor energy to attempt to write a re-sizer that would actually re-build the animation.

Basically, oversized should behave the same as horizontal pan, but was included to reduce confusion when a piece wasn't really a pan, just on a rather large sheet of paper ;).

I saw an 800k file size limit for animated entries when I went through the entry process, so that tells me that the organizers set it properly ... though I didn't enter that category, so I couldn't actually confirm the rest is working as it should (the file upload page should also display 800k as the file size limit). Unless Gabe actually edited the PHP code itself that does the checking, it should function correctly, as I don't recall ever having an issue with that.

All entries as of 1313 (1:13pm) PST have been approved. Most categories have at least one entry, which is very good. Keep those submissions coming - lots of great artwork this time around

ReiTheJelly wrote:If a cel has won an award in the past during the Cel Awards, are we allowed to enter its matching sketch into the Sketch Awards?
If the owner of the cel that won the award is different from the owner of the sketch, then yes. For example, if Member A won an award for the cel, but now that cel and sketch are owned by Member B, then Member B can submit the sketch. Or, if Member A won with the cel and still owns the cel, but Member B owns the matching sketch, then Member B can submit the sketch.

Probably another issue to clarify later.... (jots down)

Regarding repro shikishi with multiple authentic signatures: Either you crop the image where the signature is featured and photoshop them together, or you submit one signature and the portion of the image that is signed.

(continues to jot down on the improvements pad)

Angelic Lair, if you want, you can send a clarification of hentai and we can change it. Same goes for any of the translations...I'm sure I made a quite a few errors with the Spanish rules :hurt:

"Porno" would have better fit, but depends if softcore or hardcore, so I used the "sex" term.
Any other note to adapt the translation?
