Annual Sketch Contest 2016!-WINNERS ARE UP!!!!

Post by nowherekid85 »

Hey guys!!

It's about time for the annual sketch contest for 2016!!

Last year we had a pretty nice turnout, so let's make this year even better! The contest will be run just like the last couple of cel and sketch contests, where entries are posted on a Rubberslug site and voting is done through Survey Monkey.

This year I will be running and monitoring the post here on AB, creating the RS site, and uploading entries there. As well as doing all the cheerleading lol. :jump

Jadeduo will be accepting the entries and monitoring them to make sure they aren't too similiar to winners of previous years, as well as being in charge of Survey Monkey. She's the police force this year!!

Rook8z8 will be creating the awards!!

Halzacar is our site tester and will be checking the math in case there are any ties!!

ELIGIBILITY RULES

1.) You must be a registered member of Anime-Beta by the start of the submission process.
2.) You must physically own all artwork that you submit. You may not submit artwork which has been sold, or for which a sale is pending. Submitted artwork does not have to be posted in your online gallery.
3.) Submitted artwork may not include watermarks or any other type of 'tag' that could affiliate it with a gallery or owner.
4.) If you submit artwork for consideration in this contest, you must vote for all categories. The only exceptions are the optional categories. These categories are both optional to vote in and optional to submit artwork to. However, you submit artwork to an optional category, you must vote in that category.
5.) Even if you do not submit artwork, you may still vote in any or all of the categories.

SUBMISSION RULES

1.) Participants are eligible to enter the contest in every single category. No limits this time around!
2.) While a participant may choose to enter every category, you are not required to submit that many. You may enter fewer items.
3.) In order to cut down on bandwidth usage, please limit your entries to less than 1 MB in size a good rule of thumb is if it doesn't upload to RS it will not upload for the contest!
4.) Artwork which was previously entered into the Anime-Beta Awards is eligible for re-entry, provided that the winning piece has changed owners. If you choose to submit a previous winning piece, you must e-mail the contest coordinator before submitting it. This way, the organizer knows the piece has changed owners and that it is a qualified entry. If you do not e-mail the coordinator, your entry will be disqualified. Please check previous awards websites carefully.
5.) Sequence mates of previous winners will be allowed if there is a substantial difference between the two. Please inform the contest coordinator which piece you are submitting a sequence mate of. You may not submit a sequence mate if you also own the previous winning piece.
6.) Sequence mates in the same category are not permitted. Whoever submits the artwork first will be given a spot in that category. If you submit a sequence mate to an item that is already in a category, you will have the chance to re-submit another item in lieu of the repeated piece.
7.) If a category has only four entries, only #1 and #2 awards will be given. If a category has only three entries, only a #1 award will be given. Categories with fewer than three entries 24 hours before the beginning of voting will be eliminated. Contestants will have the chance to re-submit artwork to another category.
8.) Modification and/or enhancement of images is not permitted. The only exception is for oversized images requiring multiple scans. You may piece these scans together to make a complete image.
9.) When there are tie votes, awards will be given in the following ways:

one #1, two #2, no #3
one #1, one #2, two #3

I thought we were including all black/white w/ one accent colored shikishi in all applicable categories for the sketch awards. That was what was decided during the cel awards, and I think that makes sense considering how prevalent this type of artwork is now.

Also, I would love to see a Grouch category. :vict

I had mostly been looking at the first posts for the past cel and sketch contests, but after skimming through the last cel contest thread, I do see where that was mentioned. We can fix that.

Grouch category would be interesting. If anybody has more suggestions, please feel free to give them!

The injured one is pretty much Blood on the Ground. Fighting and Grouchy would be good to add.

I did add shikishi to categories, and deleted the old shikishi only category, plus background, since it was cut last year. Itadakimasu! was cut as well, so maybe we should cut that one to begin with this year, unless there's interest in keeping it.

It could be part of action, unless maybe we make it so that it has to be an actual fight scene between two or more characters, as opposed to somebody just holding a sword like they're going to swing it.

Although if we did it like that, it may be better to do the fight category for the cel contest instead, since each character would probably be on a different sketch...

Yes if you have a sequence of sketches, put them together in a short clip.

I added fight scene to the list as well. It's a good category, so let's give it a shot!

Ten more days left until it's time to start submitting!!

Just a question.
How about a separate Shikishi award in the future?

The sketch contest used to be like that, with a category for shikishi only. It was brought up during the last cel contest that we should start allowing shikishi to be allowed in other categories along with the sketches, to follow the current trends of what people are collecting.

It's also too broad of a category to just group together. Within my own collection alone, I have sketches of people, mecha and creatures. What would be the judging criteria for that category? When it's broken down into specifics, shikishi are a lot easier to judge.
