Take your own laptop to work! You can get around filters that way!
oh for reals???
gosh i thought that since its the same server, it would still be filtered.
ill have to give that a try, thank you!
you know, I never liked this multiple bidders using the same DS - it just sort of isn't right at all. Yes, you the buyer make out as you only have to pay a fraction of what you bid (if you're bidding against another user of this DS) but the seller only sees the number of bids going up and up, with no profits being transfered to him (only to the DS).
On the one hand, I agree..... However, on the other hand, the seller DOES have the option to accept international bidders and they chose not to accept them. (*shrug*) Even that said, one might argue that, although the seller doesn't see the extra cash, the seller ALSO doesn't have to worry about dealing with accepting foreign payments or shipping internationally -- both of which can potentially be a headache. Lastly, if a seller gets to know a given deputy, they might LIKE seeing the deputy's name as a high bidder because they know in advance that they're not going to have a problem with the person.
So I can see possible plusses and minuses. Honestly, I would rather use my own ID and have the deputy handle the transaction, but I don't know a deputy who allows such anymore. (One I used to use did allow it and it was wonderful.) I've had people see me bid through SMJ and simply use SMJ to outbid me via the "Monopoly money" idea, which is really annoying. I don't play that game because all it would take would be ONCE for an outside bidder to smack the auction with a huge bid last instant and I would be up a creek.... so I only ever place REAL bids. Using my own ID would handily shoo away the "Monopoly money" bidders, because they would have to be ready to ACTUALLY PAY their huge bid.

Ditto.
It's a good way to snipe, but if an outside bidder bids up the price, I wouldn't want to get stuck paying that high price. It's not a game I play either.
Nor (in truth) I, except very, very infrequently and with items that I consider essential wishlist items. I've seen too many cases when people got stuck with ridiculous overbids when two people with more enthusiasm than ready funds locked horns.
Anyhow, as the market develops I expect to get more items through private deals and trades than from auctions. I even let my eBay account lapse, as I haven't made a bid there in more than 18 months (and even that was a BIN electronic goods item). So while I won't say "never never," I think I can agree with "hardly ever."

You actually may need to use one of those Wireless Cellphone Internet PCMCIA cards that cost around $50 per month... You probably can't get around the firewall and filters....
