Seriously, it does make it clear why many studios were anxious to get this stuff out of their storerooms as quickly as possible. Some of those shelves look just about ready to collapse under the weight of those boxes. I'm sure there are studios that
paid someone a fair chunk of money (not $50,000 or the equivalent, to be sure, but presumably a stiff fee) to remove stacks of similar cels, sketches, and original backgrounds off their premises and never bring any of it back again. Especially as I believe it is illegal to incinerate cels in Japan. (Because of the toxic smoke, not because it destroys national treasures.)
One wonders just what some of the material we so carefully conserve has been through before it arrives at our doorsteps.
