Fake SM cel?

This Sailor Uranus cel on YJ is fake, right? I don't see sequence or layer numbers and there's absolutely no line fade. I don't know if the auction description mentions this is a fan cel or something but, even so, that price would make me think they were attempting to pass it off as the real thing. Here's hoping no one bids, if it is indeed phony.

Ah, thanks! But why the hefty price tag? O.o I find that to be kind of excessive for something made by a fan. I also wonder why several of us didn't know it was listed as a fan cel. Kind of dangerous when you think about it.

Looking again at the listing, the Google translate program refers to the cel as a "Hentai Cel" LOL, guess that must be where it is labeled a Fan Cel and something went haywire with the translation.

I feel really bad for the buyer if he didn’t know.. Makes me wonder though if the fan cel was done by a famous artist, someone in the doujinshi industry?? Maybe that’s why for the high price

I thought that too, but there's no mention of who the cel artist is.

Who knows, maybe they just really liked it? Fan cel aside, it is a nice piece. If they're willing to pay that much for a fan cel, all power to them.

I have seen people pay much more then that for a rilezu, which technically..........

But aren't rilezu studio sanctioned? Approved by and done by the people who actually worked on the series? With that level of authenticity, a rilezu should garner a heftier price. A fan cel floating around YJ by some unnamed and unknown artist does not inspire as much confidence. Who knows what quality of materials they used to produce it. Sure, it looks fabulous now, but can the same be said a year from now? I'd never pay $300 on a gamble.

In most cases yes.
Sometimes the client can ask about a frame.

Nope, there are 4 companies ( as example ) and those are drawing the Rilezu cels for the all Studios.
The studio is just ordering them from one of he companies they have a contract with.
The frames are mostly chosen by a person from the marketing department of each studio.
Some Rilezu drawing companies are using professionals other are just using Students this is why some Rilezu's look better as others.

Ohhh, wow, thanks Gabe! I've never purchased one before and just assumed it was something created by the studios themselves. I had no idea! What you describe sounds almost... scary. Wouldn't that just make the company producing them a fan cel factory? Yikes! Then, yes, I can understand Gonzai's comment now. Rilezu sound no better (or worse) than fan cels. I'm glad I never had any interest in those things.

I have a few from AIC and I'm happy with them. ^_^
Most of them have been drawn by a person that did the production art back in the time for them.
Sadly he left AIC for another project and my last order was done by a replacement person.

But yes some companies could be maybe called fancel factory or something like that. ^^
