Colors a little off?

Post by Meowsmix »

Hey everyone, quick question.

I've been trying to get a Hyoga cel for a good friend of mine for relatively cheap and this one popped up.. But the colors seem really off to me! Plus it seems like the cel doesn't have a # at all. Anyone have any ideas if it's legit and I'm just crazy or if the colors look off to someone else as well?

Thanks in advance! :D

I only have a couple of Seiya cels but it does look off to me. Also, the amount of paint on the cel looks off. Why is there a huge chunk of paint missing on his lower arm? Usually Toei cels are painted beyong their lines.

I guess the best way to check is, if you know where the cel came from in the series, to get a screenshot of it. I'm sure that that would be the best way to clear up any doubt you might have.

Toei was notorious for trimming cels for sale in its gift shop, so it is possible that this Saint Seiya cel was originally a pan cel. When it was cut down to size to fit into the souvenir cel bin, the original registration holes and sequence numbers were removed. I have at least one Gegege no Kitaro cel (also from Toei) that was treated the same way.

The color issue might be courtesy of a bad scan. However, caution seems merited. The seller appears to be a very active one, though not a specialist in marketing cels from what I can tell. I saw a few other cels, but most of what s/he has up look to be doujinshi. If his/her stock comes courtesy of SS fans, it could also be a fancel. Cutiebunny's advice is good: if you can hunt it down and compare it with a screen cap, that would likely resolve the issue.

Otherwise, the low opening bid seems justified.
