Hunter X Hunter Auction Prices

Post by Kasi »

Fairly new Hunter X Hunter collector here :cheers

I've been watching some auctions on YJA for quite a few months now, while many of the cels and drawings seem to be quite abundant and very cheap, there have been some very fierce bidding wars.

For example:

http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u52907861

And just for genga

http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h179333317

http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b150096745

http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u52538087

http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b149765075

There were quite a few more auctions like this, for just 2 or so genga drawings.

Popular scenes and characters I know, but since I haven't been watching this series for very long, are these typical auction prices? Or have I come at the wrong time? :)

yeah I've noticed this too, seem the Kurapica stuff has some fierce bid wars alot of the time, Kuroro traditonally has always brought fairly decent money, but I dont know, some of the Kurapica sketches [and that cel you noted too] seem to go to really excessive amounts, I used to collect alot of HxH cels, but mostly Killua stuff, I'm not sure if the re-release of the series has stirred up this much nostalgic interest?? Or if its just a couple of Kurapica super fans...... X| That same enthusiasm doesnt seem to transfer over here to the states....[guess i wasnt much help :shrug ]

There are quite a few HxH collectors with deep pockets, and those auctions were for pretty key scenes, so the prices don't surprise me that much. It really just depends on which collectors come out of the woodworks for which scenes. :)

The new series could certainly be helping it's popularity, good thinking. It looks like the prices might be further influenced by those Kurapika super fans too. I just noticed the user tak***** seems to fight hard for every one of these. Maybe the prices wouldn't be so high if not for them.

I think this auction: http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b150096745 threw me off the most.
It seems to be a very common sequence amongst rubberslug galleries, and one of which sold on Ebay at the start of the year for around $30.
Wonder if some collectors value the genga more? Or then again, it could just be the fans 8O

That's true :) Perhaps theres been a dry season of key scenes recently?

Well, that was an hour of my life I will never get back. >_<

Now I remember why hate watching auctions end on YHJ. -_-

However, the final price of the set was well worth it. The eyes were just so stunning. @_@

I am very surprised by the prices these HxH genga are getting. 8O

I agree, it looks like one buyer is on most of these auctions...bidding if not winning.
