YHJ going up against Rakuten Inc

Post by Quacker »

Came across this interesting article via my Bloomberg terminal detailing the new tactic of Japan's Second richest Business man, Masayoshi son, taking on the Third-ranked richest, Hiroshi Mikitani. Thought it was worth sharing since it dealt with our 'favourite' anime-related auction site.

Masayoshi Son (Chairman of YHJ) owns a large percentage of SoftBank; Japan's third largest mobile phone network carrier by revenue which in turn owns a controlling stake in Yahoo Japan. If the name "Softbank" is familiar, it is probably due to the fact it very recently bought & took over Sprint Corporation in the US. Current Net worth: USD14.2 Billion (stock is slightly up today).

Hiroshi Mikitani is the Owner, Chairman & CEO of Rakuten Inc.
Rakuten is Japan's most popular e-commerce website, ranking above US/Western counterparts E-Bay, Amazon.com, allowing businesses to sell their products on-line via the Rakuten 'Mall'. Current Net worth: USD 7 Billion.
(** for those who are not aware, the Rakuten website payment system has been nominated as one of the "worst" & has lead to more complaints about fraudulent data collection & account/credit copying).

The article details Son-San's change in tactics, eliminating YHJ's current fee structure for all on-line businesses listed or wanting to list with them in a concerted effort to increase the number stores & users for the Yahoo e-portal.

This hopefully will eventually provide further benefits for all of us here because from only the second day after the Fee elimination was announced - YHJ has received 10,000+ new applications from Businesses seeking to list on YHJ & 22,000+ new 'individual' applications wishing to list on Yahoo!
In amongst all of these 'new' applications, you would imagine there could exist the possibility of some new Cel/anime artwork sellers - bringing access to additional artwork that may otherwise not have been listed??
My Cel Gallery can be found here:

A growing collection of Escaflowne, Evangelion, FMP, Fate/Stay Night plus other cels that are among my Favourites. No cheap & nasty stuff here.
Come, check out the cutesy female & Mecha madness!!
