Endings for Anime series - Downers

Post by glorff »

Which anime series do you think has the biggest downer for an ending?

My vote goes to Chrno Crusade. That one got me for days 8O

Ugh. Chrno Crusade gets my vote, too. It was like watching an entirely different anime toward the end. :?

I watched about 16 episodes of Chrno Crusade and never got to see the rest. :(

Downer endings. I can't think of any big downer endings that I've seen. I've seen sad, tearful anime, but the endings were at least somewhat uplifting from the depths of sorrow sections of the anime.

The closest I can come to thinking of a downer ending would be the "Dousoukai ~ Yesterday Once More" ending. Ayu went and backstabbed her "friend" Mizuho and then the supposed "happy" ending is based off that lie. That was a very unsatisfying and sad way to end it. I felt so bad for Mizuho. What a mean thing to do with no way of having a resolution because that happened in the last episode of the series. :l

Just for clarification, are we talking "downer" as in sad or "downer" as in disappointing?

Berserk.....definitely Berserk.
I'd have to agree with that one.

Another one I can think of is Weiss Kreuz Gluhen.

Berserk is up there, but I'd have to go with Kite...

I've not seen all of Berserk, and have no intention of watching it. About 6 or 7 episodes in, I realized that nothing good could happen. So, I stopped watching. I just liked the characters too much.

I just started watching Chrno Crusade ... and, now I'm feeling distressed that another "bad" ending is heading my way. Sigh.

For sad and disappointing, both Cowboy Bebop and Weiss Gluhen get my vote.

For just disappointing, I'm going to have to go out on a huge limb and say Evangelion. I loved that show, but was hugely disappointed in the ending.

Although my brain is mush at the moment, one series that pops into my head when I think "well that's not how I would have ended it" is Escaflowne. Gah.

In terms of sad/depressing/weird, I think I'll cast my votes towards Cowboy Bebop, Fushigi Yuugi and Sailor Moon, actually. The *very* end of FY and SM were alright, but the episodes leading up to it were quite angsty and full of woe.

It was never really answered. But if we want to go for downer as in "disappointing". . . Inuyasha's still got me fuming.

Where the hell is that 4th movie?!

just

grrrrr

You and me both.

Oh... another very disappointing show. Spiral. I was completely and totally hooked, enjoying the gizzards out of myself watching it, and then... nothing? dribbling off the end of the machine into the ether? NOTHING?

ARRRGH!!!

Wow, that was a show that deserved more.

Maybe we need a thread for Anime Endings: Non-Existent! :P
