Wouldn't it be a much better idea if they had thought of making a new ANIMATED full-length Dragonball/Z Movie instead of a live-action one? I mean, there's no way you can capture all that is DBZ in live-action... especially the unique artistic design of the series... which plays the biggest part in it's attraction, I think.

I would imagine that it could be done and done with way better animation than even the relatively short "movies" created by TOEI. Possibly with an origin concept or something of the begining of DBZ.... re-capping the events all the way up to Frieza in a shortened and much more theatrical way with incredible animation that would put to sleep those who say the DBZ animation was sub-par (which at times it was).

Or it could just be a total new story... could use the same voices we're used to (or better ones).

In short, I think it would be a very profitable (or would have been 3 years ago) idea. What does everyone else think?

I agree that a live action's probably not the best way to go, but then again I've said that before and they've pulled off a number of things I thought wouldn't work so I suppose I shouldn't really say until I see it if it was a mistake (hindsight's 20/20). I'd actually like to see a reanimated DBZ, just to see it done cg, but I will wait and see how the live one goes *pulls out popcorn* :kamehameha:

I think that's a great idea, BO! It'd be awesome to see another animated DBZ, especially with the improved animation techniques these days. The only down side is that there wouldn't be any cels! :x

I always thought that a live-action DBZ would mostly just make most fans angry. Let's face it, there's not a huge market for any full-length DBZ film and a lot of fans would be put off by the live acting. I don't think the action could possibly be better than the end of Matrix Revolutions (which isn't great anyways). But that's just an example of what it could look like. I'm just hoping Toriyama will revisit the manga... 8)

Maybe they'll make something new next year when the Anime turns 20.
Just like they did with the 10th Anniversary Special.

All we can do is hope! :)

Well, I would hope so. With all the nostalgia in America for re-making or re-igniting movies/stories of the past... why can't someone fire up the dbz franchise again over at TOEI.

With the technology possible, it seems the movie makers are at this point only limited by their own imagination.

I know that's a little naive because money playes a huge part too. You can't make a movie like this without going all out on it.
Nobody is waiting for a DBZ-movie "by the team that brought you Under Siege II and Universal Soldier : The Return."

This is indeed impossible. But I also believe it is not necessary. In this live action, characters shouldn't necessarly look like their anime counterparts (as for some the hair really wouldn't work), but it is VITAL that they embody the character.

This worked like a charm with Wolverine in the X-Men movies. No way does Hugh Jackman look like Wolverine. He is too pretty and most of all far too tall, yet everyone believes he IS wolverine.
For example, I believe, although he visually doesn't look a thing like Vegeta, Michael Wincott (the bad guy from The Crow, Metro and Along Came A Spider) would play him to a tee.

The movie would also need a different storyline. A non-DBZ audience (and maybe a regular DBZ audience either) is not going to be impressed with a 2 hour movie in which the main character fights for 100 minutes while everyone else sits at the sidelines gasping and acting like commentators

The fights themselves are the easiest part. After all, the entire last fight in the third Matrix movie was one big DBZ rip-off.

There is no way a live-action DBZ-movie can, (or should be allowed) to look like it's anime counterpart. Only an adaptation is possible but even then they should be very, very careful with what they are doing.
(The person who okayed that version of Constantine should get thwapped severely.)

I am not exactly waiting for the umpteenth anime movie (I am not that big of a fan anymore) but I sure as heck am curious about a live adaptation.

Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?
