I can't really decide which one of these two horribly wrong and totally unmatching BG's I should choose to go with the cel..
But because I do not have anything close to the original BG one of these will have to do

seriously, I like them both. When I first saw the blue one I, i thought, wow gene stands out nicely... but when I saw the red one, I thought wow that gives it a nice warm feel to the cel. Overall I like the blue a lil more I think.
I really think they both look great, and you can't go wrong, no matter which one you pick. But ... I voted for the first one. I think I like the blue just a tad better, mainly because I think it makes his hair stand out so much, and, also, I think it blends nicely with the shadows and the bluish tones on his shirt.

I voted for the red background because it makes Gene's flesh tones look more natural.
For some reason the blue give him a slightly red tint to his skin to my eye.

I believe that she did color adjustment to them because the colors are not
the same between the two on the same areas. So, I wouldn't use that as a
criteria.
The blue looks better because it contrasts his hair and face, making them
pop out from the bg. It also highlights the fine points that are blue such as
his eyes, making them stand out more.
Okay, I'm surprising the heck out of myself here because blue is my favorite color. Absolute favorite. Hands down. One of my husband's favorite sayings: ...and then she bought the Blue one!
But I really like the red one. I like it for the soft feel it gives to the whole thing. The blue sets off his hair nicely, but it's a little too stark and bold. I like the softening effects of the red. His eyes have a soft/warm/happy look to them, and the red background aids that.
I voted for blue. Gene stands out better with the blue background. Since Gene has red hair, the red background washes him out some and makes the image look flat. The blue gives him a great contrast and really makes his red hair and skin tones come alive.

Thou I voted for the red bg only because it seems to belong more to the cel as a atmosphere.
Theres just somethin bout it that seems more fitting as an enviroment. Thou I've never seen OLS so I may completely and utter wrong in my assumption (probably am) but thats just my opinion.
