I used to get this question a lot...but recently not as many. If I know the person and they've been friendly and helpful, I always share with them where my sources are from. But I came up with a way to help ease those e-mails I get by listing the sources in my comments section. Most are generally vague, unless it was from another person I was friendly with and posted their link.

The way mine usually goes is (Purchased from: Ebay, YJ, Private Collector, or so-and-so). This has helped ease the amount of e-mail I get, but not all.

It depends on you really...I don't mind sharing with a few but that's pretty much it. In some series, like the main one I collect, there is very heated competition...but you may collect from a series that has a few people in it and don't mind sharing info with you. That's how I am with a few people with AMG...I let them know and they let me know and so far, no problems whatsoever! But I don't really think someone needs to know the exact detail unless that person has another cel of the similar one they questioned about, then I wouldn't mind helping at all. :D

Hi Elendil. I just wanted to let you know I totally didn't ask this question in regards to your mail in particular. :)

No, the mails I'm talking about are generally pretty pointed (ie. long lists of things they want for themselves and asking where they can find them), and I think that's what's throwing me. It's not that they are objectively rude, per se... I guess it just feels a little indecorous, especially when, as you say, many sources of cels are pretty readily available if you just use a search engine. I wanted to get feedback from others because I wasn't sure what to say to complete strangers who make initial contact for the sole purpose of getting me to help them search for the same things I want. I am not always able to participate deeply in the cel community because of time constraints, so it helps me to get to know the general zeitgeist on a subject.

As far as being "worried" about competition, while it's very egalitarian to say one doesn't care, I think if you are working hard to search for something special to you, you can't help but care that there's going to be one more person competing with you for that thing. There *is* an awareness that animation art is rare. It's not like an outfit you're wearing and someone comes up and asks you where you got your shoes.

That being said, I agree that there's no point "worrying" about competition on an auction site like YJ, Ebay or Mandarake. Naturally I always hope for fewer competitors, but in the end, auctions are public, and I am a very focused collector; when I want something, I bid to win, no matter what the competition.

I really appreciate everyone's responses. It's helping me understand better where people sit on this issue.

I also appreciate all the feedback on my Gallerie. I'm very happy to share it with you, and I hope to get to know many of you better as time goes on.

Minna, arigatou!

Wow . . . you've sure got some nice stuff! I honestly don't know where to begin . . .

I really like all the Slayers stuff. The cel of Lina and Zel in giant animal costumes really cracks me up--especially Zelgadiss's expression. :^^:

I'm also a big fan of your Gargoyles artwork; I've never seen such a nice collection before. :o I loved watching that show as a kid (I'd get up around 5am on Sundays to catch it). Now I really can't remember what it was about, but I digress . . . Beautiful artwork, either way. :)

Oh! About the gallery itself. I really like the way you put shadowing under the cel/sketch scans. Makes them look very three dimensional, which I'm guessing was probably your intent. Very nice!

I've decided!

My favorite is your Zelgadis BLUSHING!

How exactly does a STONE blush?

I love your comments!

By the way are you going to be doing Pixarish Animation?

There are a ton of Budding Studios around the country doing the 3d Animation.

Where are you going to be working?

Sorry to be hopping in so late, but I was away for a couple of days. ^_^;

I remember seeing your older web site some time ago, but I either forgot just how good it is, or you've added quite a bit lately. :) Great gallery all the way around, but of course I'm partial to the Shamanic sections. ;)

Thanks everyone! :)

Syan-- yeah, there were a couple of TB scenes that I really had to have. I have some issues with the show as a whole, but some of the characters really did stick out. I would have loved to have seen more development and closure for the main cast rather than so many seemingly extraneous plot tangents. :/ You never really get deep into any one character or see them arc. Except for Ion. That's why he's my fav. ^^

Loveless is my newest guilty pleasure. It's so indulgent and wrong in so many ways. And I can't seem to resist the latest new bishounen design trend-- long hair with glasses.

Klet-- my Slayers and Gargoyles collections have been very long in coming. I bought my first Slayers cel in 2000! I'm glad you like the Gargs cels. Nice specimens are hard to track down. Gargoyles was my "crossover" title into anime. I didn't get into Slayers until after Gargoyles ended in 1996.

Thanks for the comment on the cel-shadows. I found that especially with sketches, I needed some way to make the art stand out against my chosen white BG canvas. I tend to like to see all the way to the rough edges on cel BGs too-- my animator side wants to see the art behind the illusion.

RoboFlonne-- I did get a lot of attention from Pixar after I made my senior student film, but I think my destiny lies outside the studio system. I really want to do my own original properties, so at the moment I'm working on a graphic novel in the manga format. I'm not the hugest fan of full 3D animation-- I tend to favor the hybrid style that utilizes both 3D and 2D elements.

Karen-- Hi hon! ::waves:: I defer to the Slayers-mistress. ^_- I have some nice pieces that I'm very satisfied with, but you out-number me six to one! Hee...

Robert-- Nice meeting you! Your SP collection dwarfs mine as well! Beautiful stuff!

I'm so happy with the response to my art collection. It's nice to know that everyone enjoys some of the same shows and that people actually like reading my inane comments about them. ^_^

Much luv,
