Has anyone ever purchased a doll from Tensiya?

Post by hobbywhelmed »

I'm trying to figure out their skin options, since the pictures of white and "normal" skin dolls both look pure white, and the only option box on the order page is for white skin. They show a couple of dolls in tanned skin, but there's no general information page regarding the skin tones.

Oh, and getting into male dolls - we can probably blame a certain someone with an entire gallery of beefcake poses of her soon-to-be-orange-haired doll....

I don't know about the company Tensiya, but in general, 'normal' is just that- beige-ish. White, or 'beauty white' as some companies use, is more fair (pale) with a luminescent glow. Tan is just a darker resin, and harder to make.

Different companies' websites can be irritating in that they're hard to navigate or have missing or incomplete information and pictures.

I highly recommend the 'Den of Angels' forum, it has everything you wanted to know about ball-jointed dolls. www.denofangels.com/forums

Oh no! ANOTHER cel collector geting into BJDs! 8O

Join the club! Yes, as Elfstalker explained, white skin is really really white. I have 2 dolls from different compamies and they are both "natural" skin. Each has a different resin tone, though. My "soulkid Sweeney" is more warm and peachy, while my "DOC Yen" is more sallow in complexion. It depends on the company and their particular resin. I just ordered my first white-skinned doll to try out that skin tone and hopefully re-create an anime character. Can you post a link to the doll you are interested in? What character are you making? Are you planning to color the face yourself?

I'd go for the official face paint on this boy. Gonna practice painting on little dollies (and inexpensive) first, just in case I suck at it -

I'm having to be really fussy, because of the cost of these things! Otherwise I'd go for some of the big-eyes/tiny chin ones. And some of the prepainted faces have too much of what was called in the fashion world as "heroin chic" - although goth covers it too. (For a laugh, do a search on ebay for baby monster doll (or ghoul or vampire or undead) - the repaints are getting wild in time for Halloween!)

Some of the costumes are GORGEOUS. I could very easily live with a collection designed by Yun Kouga (Earthian, Loveless) and Tomoko Hayakawa (Wallflower, aka Perfect Girl Evolution).

Anyway, this is the half-open-eyed boy I like the most at Tensiya (They have an odd, long-lipped fellow that is different, too). Don't know if I'll stick with white hair or not. They also have a full-open eyed version.

I tried the A ref code Photobucket listed, but couldn't get the image to show in the preview - if you use that code, does it ever show in the preview, or only when fully uploaded?

I recognise the doll. It's a Dollshi. He looks rather like a white skinned doll with pastel "blushing" on him. They have changed all the photos since I last looked and you are right, they ALL look really pale!(except the "tanned" skinned ones.) They are very nice dolls and very popular with collectors who like a "bishounin" look. I thought someone could make a killer Haruka from Tactics with one!

Here's the little girl I'm adopting: http://minoruworld.net/eng/item.php?it_id=216

She's the new white skin version, which will be my first white resin doll. I hope I won't dirty her- that's my fear with these dolls! 8O

She's very cute. And bigger than "pocket fairy" suggests! Of course, I was attracted to the first out of stock doll there - Kyle.

For the record, Elfstalker started it all by asking the question Why Not? when asked about the possibility of making an Ichigo doll.
Credit where credit is due and all. :P

Den of Angels Forum is an awesome place for information. :D
I'm there as well (aernath - natch  )

Oh yes! Slack Afternoon Bernard, I did look at him to be my Ichigo, but could not get into that body he comes with. :hurt:
I bought my boy from this place, and they have Bernard too, as you can see on their front page. :D
http://www.iplehouse.net/
The body he comes with is a "Hound" body, which can be seen in all it's naked glory here:
http://www.iplehouse.net/shop/step1.php?number=125
I just can't get into the torso joint and all those ribs poking out.
But that is just me. ^_^
I far prefer the Iplehouse boy body here:
http://www.iplehouse.net/shop/step1.php?number=288
Trust me, I LOVE what's behind that fig leaf. *snerk* :P
AND he's got the perfect hinder. If you want any close ups of that body, just ask.

And Blue Fairy's Kyle isn't out of stock! You're just missing this place:
http://www.bluefairyint.com/
Beautiful little Kyle (the first doll I was going to make into Ichigo last year when hubby went ballistic), is here as a special version (just means he comes with the clothes there):
http://www.bluefairyint.com/shop/step1.php?number=227
He can also be bought butt naked for less:
http://www.bluefairyint.com/shop/step1.php?number=224
But(t) I think I'd get him with clothes just so the poor waif has something to wear when he gets home. :D

Oh, and as to white versus normal? *shrug* My Ichigo is a normal skin, but he's awfully pale if you ask me. I wonder how much lighter he'd BE as a white skin. :?
Either way, he's beautiful to me. :D

heehee
And welcome to the other money trap that is dolls! :P
You thought cels were exensive!! :P :P :P
Then you just Gotta get that leather outfit for your boy, and this and that and.... yeah. Cels may have been cheaper.
But not quite as much fun! I mean, comeon, dress me up Ichigo! :bny :bny :bny :bny !!!!!

*cough*
I actually have more pictures of my now-orange-haired boy to resize and upload from the trip! :P

Yes, I'm shamelessly in love with my doll.
I can't wait to see the doll you finally settle on, and how you dress him up! I'm sure he'll be a looker for sure!!!!! :friends:

PS - a similar body to my Ichigo is here (smaller and cheaper):
http://www.theorientdoll.us/
His name is Tae, and he's a Dae-type. :)
Hope all this helps you get along in this new obsession! :D

The Bernards appear to be about $50 cheaper on the Tensiya site than on Iple, but I haven't compared getting all the makeup done, etc.

Yeah, found the denofangels forum - but couldn't read too much - getting over a cold and my eyes are kinda bleary tonight - but found enough to get to the bluefairyint.com site and the downcast-eyes Kyle there. Good thing too - I'd found one on YJ, but the price was $200 cheaper on bluefairy! (THe special also includes the wig - )

I'd like to find a male doll with almond eyes, to make a WK Aya - would probably have better luck making a Genzo Sanzo, since the droopy-eyed look seems to be the more popular! But there's a Dollshie verision called Saint, with a kind of thinner face, that might do -

Do the 40 cm bodies and heads work across brands? Bluefairy mentioned something about "S hooks" for the head! Yeah, don't like the rib-showing body either. The one chosen for Ichigo is very nice.

I LOVE those semi-S&M/Goth/fantasy/midriff-baring/beat-me-my-resin-master type outfits. Ah, here we go, another handbasket for the downhill road-trip.... :deek

That's where I got my cat-o-nine for Ichibuns.

I eventually plan on getting a slave collar and a few *cough* other things. :flasher:

Oh, he's also got a shop on ebay:

I just visited Moggie today! I'm trying to get them to make my boy a samurai suit of armour. :D

...I digress once again. Dammit, dolls make me giddy. X|

"Digress"??? Who digressed?! :P

Mine gets me all goofy too. :D

Oh, I'm thinking I'll see if they can make me a red leather bandolier for Ichigo.
But that will be in a little while.
