Funny thing is, the best character on the show is a man who can manipulate time and space. He can stop time, move it forward and backward, and teleport anywhere in the world. The guy is a salaryman in Japan aptly named Hiro.Keropi wrote:I've always wished I had teleportation abilities since I read that "Jumper" novel by Steven Gould some years ago.

One part I thought was kind of funny (and I watched the rest of the first episode tonight) was when the two characters were both looking up at the solar eclipse at the same time. One character was looking up in New York City while the other was looking up in Japan.
The time zones are too far off for both of them to be looking up like that. I doubt you can even have two sizeable solar eclipses in two locations that are that far apart from each other during the same day.
I know sometimes you can look at something in too much detail, but I still have fun thinking about these things. Every time I see an event in the sky my mind begins to think if that kind of thing is even possible.
Often moon phases don't match the time of day/night the story is supposed to take place in. I think Aernath would agree with me.

No really, it's true.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I was looking forward to this show because it looked interesting.
It seems the clips and montages in the ads are more intriguing than
the show itself, unfortunately. The powers are cool and I think I like
the overall idea behind the show. But I just didn't care much when
I saw the first episode tonight. It was utterly boring. I didn't think the
actors were all that great or personable. I'm interested enough to
watch episode 2, but there better be some major improvements
to keep me hooked. The time bender guy was by far the best part and the
evil guy in episode 2 looks like he has some potential. Hopefully it's
just a slow start and not an indication of what the entire series will be like.

Her mirror image can come to life and protect her.Keropi wrote:Just what were the powers of the mother?
I couldn't figure her's out. It was as though she had Brian De Palma powers.
I agree that the episode took a while to build, but it is the first episode. It's a lot like the first film in a franchise, it takes a while to build up the characters before you go into the action. Besides, I got the idea that this series would be more character driven than action. I think there is a fascinating element concerning the cheerleader and her father(apparently a government hitman).

I agree with BH. I didn't expect a lot from the first episode aside from a lot of introductions to characters and said characters discovering their powers. I cannot wait for this series to develop.
I will say that I cringed A LOT when that girl put her hand down the sink disposal. I know you can heal and all that but DAMN that looked awful.

I'm not complaining about character driven stories. Everyone was too
two dimensional and boring. I didn't get any sense of their personalities,
if they even had any. And the writing wasn't that great. If you look at the
first episodes of some series, like Veronica Mars, Angel, Buffy, Firefly, Lost,
Desperate Housewives, etc, you can see how a first episode can still have
momentum to it. There are clever ways to establish origins, introductions
and avoid the typical first episode slump. Heroes just didn't bother to employ
any of those things.
Look at the movie The Specials. It deals with the day-to-day lives of superheroes
in a clever and unusual way. They never showed the powers actually
in use (excluding that ridiculous looking final scene). The movie was
entirely about character development and acting. Humor aside, I was
expecting something more along those lines. The problems a superhero
might have to face, etc etc.
I wasn't looking for explosions or action. Just some decent dialogue would've
been appreciated. It was too vanilla for my taste. I'm hoping episode 2 will
be a whole lot better.

I liked it as well, because it didn't explain everything right away. I like having to guess what Niki's power is. I like that Hiro is playing a much larger role in the scheme of things. I also liked the scenario with the cop. These characters are mostly losers, which is a great way to go. The storyline between the cheerleader and her father(Syler) is going to be really creepy, I can tell. I wonder why he removes the brains? Do you think the couple that was murdered were her biological parents?

Yeah. It'll be interesting to see how they'll eventually cross paths with each other.blueheaven wrote:I liked it as well, because it didn't explain everything right away. Hmm...I hadn't even thought about that. That would be something if they were.blueheaven wrote:I can tell. I wonder why he removes the brains? Do you think the couple that was murdered were her biological parents?

That is an eerie way to kill someone (or leave someone).
