Submit your UGLIEST Cels... I mean most Impressive Cels or sketches.

1. Most Feminine - The kind of anime girl that turns heads and makes the blokes go "corr blimey, she's a bit of alright"

2. Most Masculine - Those bishonen dreamboats that make fan-girls go dizzy with delight.

3. Most Childlike – Scenes of younger characters saving the world, battling monsters, or chasing the opposite sex…all before their bedtime!

4. Most Heroic - Showe me those knights in shining armor, the guys and gals in the white hats. This is the place to see the good guys in action!

5. Most Villainous - The bad ass mo-fo's that make like unbearable for the people around them. Murderers, thieves, mad scientists, and mutated monsters. They don't need to look villainous, just act that way. Show me your assholes!

6. Best Mecha/Robot - From Gargantuan battle robots to minute helper droids, this is the place for those technological creations.

7. Best Creature - Cute critters, friendly familiars, blundering beasts and malicious monsters- you get the picture.

8. Background Award - This is for stand-alone Production BGs only (No copies or repros), we want to see the most detailed, realistic and emotive watercolour backgrounds. No sketches allowed in this category

9. Best Hanken - Ultra special post-production artwork, including hanken sketches are welcomed here.

10. Funniest Scene - Scenes that make us bust a gut laughing!

11. Joy - Characters showing their utmost delight and vivacsious nature.

12. Rage - Scenes of character getting their rage on. Veins popping, teeth gritting, knuckles whitening.

13. Sadness - Characters in a deep, funky depression. Death scenes. Crying. Hoplessness. Don't look at these entries without a box of tissues and a pint of Ben and Jerry's.

14. Cutest - Characters or scenes so sweet they make your teeth hurt!

15. Best Action Scene - Dramatic action shots involving battles, explosions, fighting, acrobatics and intense movement that make us tired just by looking at it! *phew*

16. Best Couple - Those cute (and even those downright unpleasant) couples and comrades. These pairings can be male/female, male/male, female/female, demon/schoolgirl, cabbit/cabbit.

17. Best Weapon - Martial Arts masters say that a weapon is an extension of a person's body. Perhaps these accessories make the character look cool, powerful or you can imagine what the character is like by the weapon they use? For cels that include Guns, Swords, Staffs, even lasers, canons and tanks etc. Vote on the tool's visual quality, its implementation and what it represents in the frame.

18. Best Fan Cel – Those lovely homemade beauties created by some of the talented web artists we know and love. All cels submitted must be in the possession of the person submitting it. No sketches allowed in this category.

19. Hentai Award - This category is open to ANY cel or sketch, Yaoi or Yuri, from a Hentai series. Cels submitted in this category DO NOT have to be graphic in nature but it's encouraged.

20. Non-Anime Art - A more 'open' section, you can define Non-Anime as 'not Japanese animation' (US/European animation) or as 'not Japanese anime production art'. This is the only category where American/European artwork can be displayed. Production art, comic art, and original art are all accepted.

General Rules & Regulations

1. Contest is open to Anime-Beta members only. Guests, referrals and lurkers should be registered as a Beta Member, BEFORE the artwork submission start date of November 11th in order to participate.

2. Unless otherwise noted in the category descriptions, all entries submitted to this contest must be Production/Rilezu cels or sketches. The emphasis of this event is on cels but sketches may be submitted into any applicable category(with the exception of Backgrounds). Rilezu may be entered into ANY applicable category with the exception of Best Sketch, Best Hanken, and Best Background. Reproduction cels are NOT allowed. Only one of a kind artwork may be submitted in this contest. If a cel is submitted, its matching sketch may NOT be submitted into ANY other category.

3. Artwork that has won an award in previous Beta Award contests may not be submitted in ANY category this year.

4. Each submission must be owned by the member submitting it. Cel images taken from other galleries, websites or collections are prohibited. Cels owned by a member but not on display in their gallery, are acceptable.

5. Cels should be submitted "AS IS," with no graphically enhanced additions/ subtractions or computer editing to improve/alter the image itself. Custom and copy backgrounds to accompany each submission are acceptable. The cropping of images to avoid showing paint edges is also acceptable. Please refrain from using watermarks on cels. Rubberslug blocks all attempts to steal images, so your cels are safe.

6. A maximum of 25 entries will be accepted per category, with a minimum of 3. If more than 25 cels are submitted, only the first twenty-five cels received will be voted on. If fewer than 3 cels are submitted to a category, that category will not be eligible for voting. If a category is over-subscribed early on in the submission process, the affected person/people will be notified so they can submit a new cel to a different category. It's advised that members have one or two reserve choices prepared in case this occurs. Progress on the number of submissions to each section will be published on the Anime Beta Forum for reference purposes.

7. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify images they believe do not fit into the category in which they were submitted. If an image is disqualified, the owner will be notified and given a chance to make a new entry.

8. The popularity of a series or the lack of knowledge of an obscure series should not play into voting. Each member must vote for the cel that they believe best meets the criteria laid out for it.

9. The monetary value of a cel or its scarcity should not influence the final judging.

10. Everyone who submits artwork into this contest MUST vote.

11. Beta members who don't wish to submit any artwork into the event may still vote if they choose. Full voting terms can be seen below.

12. Voting in the Hentai category is NOT mandatory if such material offends you.

13. Once voting is complete, the artwork from each category that received the most votes will be declared the winner. A runner-up rosette will be awarded for second place. Winners will be awarded with logos to proudly display in their cel galleries.

Submission Rules & Procedure

1. Each member can nominate up to 5 cels/sketches from their respective collection in total. This means that members can participate in up to 5 categories of the 20 available.
Make 1 submission per category of your choice; the same artwork cannot be entered into multiple categories. This includes sequence-mates. If you have a sequence of artwork, please choose the one you like best and submit it to one category only.

2. Cel images taken from other galleries or websites are not allowed. Cels owned by a member, but not shown in their gallery, are acceptable.

3. All entries must be made via email attachment. Do not submit links to cels or galleries, for they will not be accepted.

4. All images must be in JPEG or GIF file format, between 300-600 pixels in width and depth, no more- even if it's a pan or oversized piece.

5. Maximum file size of each image must be 100kb or less.

6. Rename each image as your Beta username followed by an underscore then the relevant category it's being entered into. For example:
myname_sadness.jpg, myname_hanken.jpg, myname_masculine.gif, myname_background.gif
If your name includes eccentric characters that you can't use when re-naming the file, just use the simplest text form or the name you're known as on Anime Beta ;)

Sending the Submission

Emails should be set out in the example below:

Email Subject: Submission [followed by your full Beta member name, without brackets]

Include the respective images in attachment.

No message in the body of the email is necessary, not even a bribe to sweeten the voting- that's dealt with by another department :P

The email address you use to submit your entry and vote will be the one we shall use to contact you if need be. If you'd prefer replies to be made to a different address, please mention that in the body of the email.

Please send only 1 email with your category submissions, not 1 email for each image.

If you're unable to send your submission during the designated 8 day period (November 11th - Nov 18th) because you're on holiday or have special circumstances, please advise me before hand (via the email address below) and I can accept an early submission.

Send submissions to loweryk1@yahoo.com

Voting Procedure

The webpage with all the entries will be made available for public viewing on Saturday November 25th, the first day of the voting. Voting Ends on December 4th.

Please make sure you view each piece of artwork before choosing a favourite. Once you have a favourite in mind from each category, you're ready to cast your votes!

Each artwork in every category will be assigned a number (1, 2, 3, etc). Use this number to indicate the item you are voting for.

Use the Anime Beta Private Message system to send in your votes. Votes must be sent to user blueheaven.

All voters MUST vote in EVERY category- the Hentai category is the only exception.

Check your votes before sending them, make sure you've selected the correct artwork for the corresponding category- you are allowed 1 vote and that is all.

Send your votes in using the "Send Feedback" link at the top of the page.

Failure to meet these requirements will result in your vote not being counted.

It does kinda make more sense to have "rage, joy and sadness" categories
instead of "facial expression and sadness." I hadn't noticed that before,
but it seemed sadness was separated from facial expressions for some reason.

Anyway, thanks Brian! The site looks great.

I separated them initially because I wasn't looking for cels of sad characters, but sad scenes.

As for sketches, I removed the sketch award due to the fact that sketches can be entered into ANY category(with a couple exceptions). I really want to see some nice sketches get entered this year.

Well, I think I'll wait and hope the category comes back next year.
Genga was the only category a sketch won last time (even if it was a douga).
(Although I think Aernath might have a shot at Most Heroic! :))

I'm glad we'll get to see a whole page of Rage again this year! I don't have any cels like that, but plenty of people do, and they are so fun to look at all together! :D

I think what we need are more people willing to enter sketches this year. I myself will be entering at least two sketches.

Can you please bring back the sketch category?

Because really sketches are maybe atmost 3 colors and most of the time just can't compete with the bright paints.

I have the utmost faith in our little paper friends. I am making a bold prediciton: At least TWO sketches will win awards this year. I can feel it!

A few questions:

(1) In the "Child-like" category: does it have to show a SCENE, or can it just be a character that looks very cute and young?

(2) You said that custom backgrounds are fine. What about custom layers? Example: I have some cels that are missing layers of other characters (in addition to missing their background). Is it okay to submit cels that have screencapped backgrounds that include additional characters?

(3) What category do partial animal characters belong to? Are catgirls considered creatures? What about things like Clow Cards from Cardcaptor Sakura? Many of them are partially humanoid in appearance...

(4) Are *any* types of sketches okay, or just genga/douga? I have a few shuusei that I'm considering for entry, which is why I ask.

1. It just has to be a cel with a child character in it. CCS, Ranma, Naruto, etc.

2. Custom cel layers are fine. As long as SOME part of the cel it original.

3. It's not about appearance, really. If they are not human, then it qualifies. However, the less human it look, the better chance you have at winning.

Heh. While you were responding, I edited my post and asked another question. So I'll post it again, just in case you didn't notice it, BH.
