You're right. You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion and we're entitled to ours. You don't see it as inappropriate, but Gonzai and I do. We get that, there's no need to continue hashing it. There is nothing wrong with either view. We're not threatening to shut it down or delete it by any means. We're just voicing our opinions.

Surely something wrong with either view.

Sorry to be offensive to some people: I did try to give adequate notice in the title and around the link, and I also tried to be both witty and serious, so as not (on the one hand) to be tediously literal about my medical history and (on the other) needlessly flippant about a matter of life and death.

There were some collectors with whom I'm friendly who were concerned about the event, and who asked me to keep them current, and I opted for this way to let them know the results. I also thought it worth letting others know what it was like so that, if they had the option, they would not let the initial grossness of the procedure stand in their way. I certainly didn't mean to rub relative strangers' noses in the matter if they didn't want to know. And I apologize if that was the result.

If someone wanted to talk about a gyno exam or breast tumor biopsy on this forum, I would not object. I might not read the post if I didn't know the person posting ... but I certainly would consider the information worth reading and responding to if it were someone I considered my friend.

I didn't mean for you to think that I was offended by this thread. It take a lot to offend me, and this didn't come close. I just didn't find the topic appropriate for this online forum for total strangers to see and discuss. I guess I'm just a far more private person than others. But it's still my opinion and it's worth about two cents.

I am not really offended by it, as much as I feel its inappropriate
for the given type of forum this is.

Again, this is just the way I feel. :shrug

People are going to think that we've scripted this out, if we keep saying the same things. :P

Shrugs I guess I thought "People Pages" was the right forum to mention a person's personal health matters, especially when they seemed to be a matter of concern for several people who were asking. We have had threads that dealt with people's flu attacks and similar ailments, not to mention some that discussed sick (sometimes dying) pets.

As I say, I wasn't trying to be flippant or force people to look at things they found disturbing. But learning that you have a medical condition that nearly killed your closest relative makes one a little edgy and in need of company. I know some seniors overdo it, which is why I tried to be a bit self-deprecating. We love to talk matters of mind and spirit, which is the part of us that is the closest to being everlasting in this world. But talk about the body, which in the end betrays and deserts us, is, I guess, always disturbing.

So when you confront the evidence of your own impermanence, you are the most totally alone. Learning to live with this solitude is, I suppose, the difficult burden of growing old.

My mother had Ovarian cancer, which is extremely
hereditary. I go in once a year and they do a personal
test that checks for it, because to be honest - ovarian
cancer never shows symptoms till it is well progressed.
The chances of me eventually getting it are pretty high,
since cancer seems to be predominant in my family.
However, its something I share with family and very
very intimate friends, not announcing it to the world on
a public forum. There are some very close friends I
have made on Beta, that I would definately pm and let
them know if something ever happened, but in my opinion,
I am very personal and wouldn't share it with everyone
on this board. But then again - that is my feelings.

Besides, I have lots of family and close friends, so I am
not afraid of getting old alone. My sister has been suffering
from brain tumors for years. She has a very close family
to share these tests with. I am sure she doesn't feel at all
alone. Sorry if you feel like I am isolating you because of
this. It is not what I meant to do at all. :shrug
