Finished watching Evangelion.......my head hurts....

Post by Goldknight »

I was kind of enjoying the series until the end. I watched all 26 episode and then watched the OVA End of Evangelion where they re-do the last two episode. I'm totally confused now. What a totally odd show.

Episodes 25 and 26 is what happens inside Shinji's head and the END of Evangelion Movie is What happens outside during Instrumentality.

Shinji chose to stay alive and not run away. That's his triumph in the TV ending.

However in the Movie, you see him crying which kinda kills the triumph.

Bittersweet is how I like it!

Evangelion gives me a headache just thinking about it. I hope for your sake you watched the regular version. I thinking "more is better" for the last 6 episodes watched the extended versions and man was I in for a nightmare. 6 episodes of complete crap. Shows like this are made to confuse viewers and the only reason for such a high apperciation for the show is there afraid that if they say they didn't like it others say "oh you didn't understand the deeper message of the series." For those individuals I really want them to decripe what that "deeper message is." All i see is crap that sells sadly.

They ran out of money towards the end and decided to make the minimalist ending for the TV series, then go with the full blown ending for the movies. Notice the animation change? A different studio handled the movies. As Robo said, if you watch all 4 episodes together at the same time (somehow) you can see what's happening internally and externally.

I don't like Evangelion much. I've had a few years of theology and other subjects in college which surface in Eva and the references are all fairly elementary. It didn't impress me much. And I don't like Anno. He's a total hack. His endings always turn into soapbox speeches, just look at the live action Cutey Honey movie for more evidence.

Eva is good but I don't think it's worthy of the long standing worship it has received over the years.

Instrumentality took everyone and combined them into one being therefore eliminating rejection, pain, human suffering and human interactions.

Yui/Rei/Eva 1 became the vessel to carry them.

Gendo's ultimate goal is to reunite with Yui.

Fuyutski's ultimate goal is to reunite with yui.

Maya with Ritsuko etc.

If you all became one then you'll be together forever without death to part you.

As with Shinji mounted on Asuka and strangling her in the Movie, you would see a similar scene with Asuka spilling the coffee in the Kitchen and Shinji Lifting her up and strangling her in the Tv ending.

One Official source is the Cardass Game Cards which said that Shinji wished to feel another, to feel life. So Shinji in his strange demented way decided to feel Asuka by strangling her.

Really Asuka wasn't really suffocating since she just basically says... I feel sick in the ending. She doesn't gasp for breathe or anything.

wHEN YOU GROW UP MAYBE YOU CAN APPRECIATE IT, BUT IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING DONE DISPARAGE IT.

Sorry for my vent. The ending is thought provoking and when you have considered it for a while and maybe watched it again, the patterns will begin to form and it will begin to fall together.

W'oh. 8O I wasn't trying to disparage anything. I'm trying to understand it. I'm hoping someone can explain the endings to me which RF did. Thanks RF that really helps.

NGE is one of the rather unusual animes, but as RoboFlonne has said, ultimately it is the being of one. It was hard, really hard for me at first to grasp NGE since toward the end I had no clue what was going on.

Then I purchased the DVDs and the 2 movies and watched it over and over again. It finally clicked after I patiently watched it a few times, which is really odd for me since I'm impatient and don't like to waste my time.

But I'm glad I did...it was a good anime (not the best, IMO) but it was good. I hope that info helps a bit GoldKnight! 8)

Another Reason I liked the ending is because it almost doesn't feel like an ending.

It feels like a beginning for me. You have Adam and Eve... to restart the world.

Hey now I know why the world is so messed up! Adam is Shinji and Eve is Asuka!

As with the theological aspects that Toni was talking about... The Sephiroth is the Tree of life that is in the Opening credits... And is part of Instrumentality. That is a Jewish/Kabalistic tradition of always wanting to be reunited with God. The Tree is upside down and we want to reach the Roots and become one with God.

So Shinji and Asuka= Adam and Eve decides to part with God and endure the hardships to come.

I've written like hundreds of pages on stuff like this, so It really just spills out.

^ Yeah, don't forget Adam's first wife, Lilith.

The entire series is saturated with theological and psychological references (ie - the absolute terror field, for example).

It is thought provoking but I prefer the manga series. The narrative style is superior. I just don't like Anno as a director.

I can appreciate Eva on some levels but that doesn't mean I have to really -like- it. Because I don't. It's not entertaining, honestly. Very few, if any, of the characters are likable (which makes it realistic but sacrifices some of the archetypes we come to enjoy in anime). When a series lacks a real hero that you admire, it can be hard to watch. Another director might've done a slightly better job.

It's not everyone's cup of tea and I'm actually glad to hear some people expressing dislike for the series. It seems everyone adores this series and I can't quite figure out why. One man's selfishness to reunite with his dead wife destroys the world: kinda hard for me to stomach.

It was the wife's plan from the beginning.

I've written the case of Gendou Ikari and Yui Ikari...

Yui seems to be the boss. Even in the Alternate universe where Yui tells Gendou what to do. I don't know many japanese husbands who take their wive's last name.... Yui seems pretty dominate in the relationship.

Yui wishes to give Shinji a better future, one without suffering! And no need to run away or get hurt!

The Eva Project is Yui's prized project. Everything is as she planned it. Yui is actually one of Selee's daughters, I'm not sure who's daughter but one of those old guys.

I've come to realize that Yui is more evil then Gendou if you think about what pain and suffering She puts Gendou and Shinji into, just for her pet project.

Gendou and Shinji may not have been so demented if their Wife and mom wasn't planning on making herself into the God vessel for all humanity.

Gendou suffers just as much as Shinji and you should notice that he puts glasses on ONLY AFTER Yui is absorbed into Eva-01. He hides behind those Glasses to run away from the loneliness of having to wait 15 years to reunite with Yui.

The human instrumentality project is from the ancient papyrus manuscripts found on the Dead Sea Scrolls written from i guess some old jewish sect. And Yui was the key person to set everything in motion.

She chose Gendou to be her husband and chose to have a family even though she had planned to become part of Eva-01.

Yui doesn't think that leaving her husband and child for 15 years is dying or abandonment but a form of sacrifice for their future. One to prevent death and for their happiness for eternity.

Shinji cries when Asuka touches his cheek as he strangles her. The reason is because Shinji realizes that he's chosen to separate from his mother's touch for eternity. After this final decision to separate, I doubt that he will ever touch his mom ever again... It symbolizes him growing up and his mother won't be there to protect and plan his life anymore.

Shinji has chosen the hard path away from God and away from his mother.

But as long as Shinji is happy, then Yui is happy!

and thus.... I create countless pages... and pages of stuff that will make you sleep... /bawi /bo /gawi /bawi /bo /gawi Any one want to play paper, rock, scissors?
