Do you have an iPod?

Post by DragonballCity »

I'm beginning to think I'm the only person in the universe that doesn't have an iPod.

I work in a financial aid office at a college, yesterday there was a line of about 20 students, every one of them was listening to an iPod. EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!

...and half of them didn't have the courtesy to take out their earbuds when I was talking to them... :redhot

That's annoying. I also dislike it when people wear those bluetooth wireless ear pieces. Those things look silly and you can't tell when they are talking to you or to the person on their phone. Bleh. In general, technology seems to make us incredibly rude. We lack proper manners. Our parents teach us to say "please and thank you" but where are the iPod politeness lessons and bluetooth etiquette advice?

I have an iPod but I'm never rude about it. Same with my cell phone and other gadgets.

I have an Ipod, too. And, I love it. :D

However, I always take the earpieces out when I'm talking to someone. Same for my cell phone's bluetooth headphone, which, actually, I don't wear all the time. Only when I'm on a call, and I take it off if I have to talk to someone else.

I guess, in this day of "a new and better gadget every week" parents are going to have to start teaching new manners to go along with the new technology. :D

I voted "No" since I don't have an iPod. I do have a portable mp3 player but
not the iPod brand.

I have an iPod. I love the little beast. :D However, several good points have been brought up about general respect for each other. However, I don't think it was just this boom of technology that created rudeness. It seems like most people have decided not to bother to teach our new generations courtesy, and it affects all the new technologies that come out.

Most people I'm aware of always take off their earbuds, or excuse themselves whenever they have those nifty gadgets. However, most young adults I come across generally don't have that same idea to be polite. It's a me..me..me generation sadly.

But I love the iPod...and I'm polite...and I know there are some out there that are keeping the politeness-throughout-generations going. :D Enough of this cockyness and I'm-better-than-you therefore I don't have to be polite attitude! :P

I have an alternate mp3 player, but I really don't use it much. I prefer the massive but awesome headphones here on my home 'puter that give me the best sound I've ever heard from a playback device.

At work I just listen with the speakers...

It's interesting about the rudeness issue. I also notice this a lot, working as I do at a university library. Most of us who are faculty are at the young end of that two-generation span they like to call the "baby boomers" (and we have very little in common with the older end of it, thank you...). We had school class sessions on phone etiquette, flag etiquette, in person greetings, what have you...

So I really fail to understand why this didn't get passed down.

But it really didn't. :?

and most of us refuse to answer a question from a person who is standing in front of us talking on the phone, or listening to loud music on their ear buds. We're not RUDE about it, we just say, "when you're finished with what you're doing, I'll be happy to help you."

Basic... politeness.

Anyway, back on topic. Nope, you're not the only one in the world who doesn't own an Ipod! I just use an off-brand to be difficult ;)

I have an Ipod but now I'm totally regretting getting it... /wah

NOT because of whether or not my personal manners are decreasing

Personally I think if your rude person to begin with it doesn't matter whether or
not you have an Ipod, cell phone, PDA or all of the above-- your still you. /ok

I hardly think adding an ipod to a person who has decent manners will suddenly
make them obnoxious.
But anywho, I'm rambling! :crazy
What I was saying was.. I really regret getting it because
here I am w/ the damn thing 1 yr later and my battery is dying a slow painful death
and its not recharging anymore. :flushie

Well the way they are setup, you have to send back your entire Ipod to Mac
along w/ a hefty 60 bucks w/ shipping to have them replace it since one can't
pry the thing open and pull out the old battery.

I'm so peeved. I wish I'd done my research before spending the money
on it. >_<;; /an

I now have to settle for 1-2 songs at a time before it goes

I've had the same iPod for years and love it! I connect it to my car stereo so I don't have to listen to the radio. I have all my anime soundtracks uploaded to it along with my regular music. :jump I don't mind people with the buds in their ears. They do that here where I work too. I look at it as at least they aren't making me listen to their crappy music. :P

My hubby just recently changed a battery out on one of ours. We had the same problem, and got in on that settlement for the "generation" of Ipods that had the battery issues. Anyhow, I'm not sure how or where he got the battery, although I presume Mac sent it to him. But, I know he changed the battery out, because I sat there and watched him do it.

So, it might be possible for you to get a new battery for yours, too. *hopeful vibes*

I have one, use it most when flying, its really nice not to have to lug my CD/DVD's anymore. I now just carry on my DS and IPOD and I am set. My husband and me are electronic geek's, lol.

I agree that rudeness is the person's not the gadget's fault, they use the gadget as an excuse for being rude. I hate when I am in a business meeting and someone's stupid phone rings, worse is when they actually take the call. Business etiquette is going down the drain as well.
