Looks like someone whacked her on the face w/ a shovel... REPEATEDLY!!!
And Mugen looks like a bonafide Final Fantasy pretty boy.. thou Jin looks o-kay.. but ugh! The animation is soo stiff!

It's tricky to render 2-D source material into a 3-D model. It tends to never look quite right, unless the developers opt for something like toon-shading/cel-shading (which gives the illusion of two dimensional flatness). It seems they tried a more realistic character design, which is such a big contrast from the stylized character designs of the anime series. The smaller eyes and dynamic, individual strands of hair being the biggest differences. It's like Samurai Champloo meets Final Fantasy or something. The models are actually quite good, but really wrong when you think about the way they look in the anime. The unknown guy looks good because he was not based, I assume, on the Champloo universe. There's nothing to compare him to, so he doesn't "feel" as wrong as the principle characters. This is basically what the Champloo folks would look like if they were "real people" (at least, in video game terms).

All that having been said, yes, the new guy looks nice, Jin isn't too bad, I can see where Mugen would be a considerable problem child given his wide range of facial expressions that we're used to in the anime. But yeah, Fuu... well, maybe it's the cheekbones, and the eyes just being rendered into 3D, but yeah, she just looks wrong.

Not bad overall, considering.
