Do you "hide" cels?

Post by sugarcels »

I don't necessarily mean hiding that you bought a $300 cel from your parents or spouse. I mean, hiding them as in keeping them in a seperate portfolio, box, or whatever, because you don't like them as much as your other cels, and want to keep them "out of mind," but can't bring yourself to sell them. This could mean a cel that doesn't have a background (*Gasp*), was a freebie, or whathaveyou. Do you still list them in your gallery? It's OK if you want to provide links ;)

As for myself, I have a few that I don't care for too much, but can't bring myself to sell them or give them away, even though I fear they "ruin" a sort of theme I'm trying to go for.

Would you ever necessarily mean hiding that you bought a $300 cel from your parents or spouse?

1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

OH man! I totally remember hiding my cels from my mom
whenever she'd make the drive to visit me at my 1st apt
back when I was in college XD
:rollin :hitting: :crackup

I didnt want her knowing I was blowing my grocery
money on cels and eating poor man's ramen in its place
:wow:
LOL!!!

As for hiding stuff from books/gallery view, I have a bunch of
odds and end cels (mostly freebies) that I am too embarrassed
or bothered to scan. :flushie

Some are actually not bad.. but ehhh..
I feel like they arent worthy at all. :emb

I have a Krillin and Akane that I received as a freebie from
Celga but dont have the heart to scan or sell.
:stupid:

I also have a bunch of random butt shots and back shots of
characters from Naruto I just find too silly to get rid of since they
make me laugh.. :moon :hitting:
but too bizarre and ugly to show off.

I've got an ugly El Hazard Ifurita cel that looked real ugly as soon as I took it out of its shipping package. :puzzled

It's listed, but there's no picture link. :emb

No...No!!! It's too ugly! I don't want to look at it again. X|

I keep it in my dresser drawer along with my freebies and that Maison Ikkoku cel of Kyoko and her parents that I destroyed after pulling them two layers apart. They're all in the "Drawer of Forgotten Cels".

There's also the "hiding" because you don't want others to know what kinds of beauties you have stashed away :D

And there's also the "hiding because the person who gave them to you has requested that not post them so that they don't lose their job" hiding.

But, hiding the uglies. Yeah, come to think of it, I do have some cels which I haven't scanned because of that...they were freebies that came with the auction and I really don't want. I suppose I should find them a good home(and pay the shipping to get them to the new home), but, I guess I'm lazy about that. I also have a few douga/genga cuts from BLEACH which, since I got them for free as a special from a dealer's site and am prohibited from showing them, I have not posted as well.

I don't have any of those. If I actually had an Automatic Scanning and Color Adjusting machine I would post things more frequently. :D

I don't have anything that I was requested not to post. :shrug

I do have an self-imposed limit on posting any sketches from an anime that ended less than two years ago (or two years after its twenty sixth episode if I ever DO decide to collect from an anime longer than twenty six episodes).

I usually don't like posting cels less than four to six months after I've bought them. That's just a personal preference.

Wow, now that you mentioned it, I do hide one cel because I just am not excited about it. I got a freebie in once a few years back. It was never worth selling or even the shipping to give it away. So, I kept it in a plastic container somewhere in my room.

The only other time I have hidden something was at the request of the seller or person who had the artwork and, due to some reason or another, they didn't want it to be viewed publicly.

"Back in the day" I used to buy big lots of kid's series like Cyborg Kuro-chan and there were lots of minor cels and sequence mates. I don't post them because I doubt anyone would want to look, plus it just clutters everything up in the gallery. Photon cels always came with another cel as well, and most were pretty minor. I can't throw them out, however, I just can't. It seems wrong somehow. :(

I have two cels hiden... one is hiding by traveling the world atm, a freebie cel I got with an order a while back.

The other cel I have hiding is a freebie from Mon Colle Knights - but its only in hiding b/c I don't have a cel book big enough for it.

I've never been asked by somone to -not- show something though. I would find it really difficult... I love sharing my beauties with people... half the fun of the hobby for me is sharing. Once I was asked not to share how much I paid for a cel since a fellow collector gave a deal on it. :)

Only thing that I don't have in my gallery are things that are reserved for gifts...such as the box of Gokudo cels that are slowly making their way over to klet and Baakay.

I hid three really nice fancels which I bought when I first became interested in cel collecting. I hide them because I paid a lot of money for each having been told they were real production pieces.. of course I know better now so don't like being reminded of being such a fool. I am considering adding them to my gallery though.. I just need to know if exposed breasts are okay or if I need to censor them first. :o/

I have a stack of cels in the corner that I don't know why and where I got them. I guess that would be considered hidden purposely. Or, there are cels I purchased but I totally forgot about them for whatever reason, so hidden inadvertently (I found a very nice Neoranga cel in closet that I didn’t know I have last night is an example).

Nothing hidden, except the price of some cels! I am embarassed to tell friends and family how much I spend on my cels, so I bend the truth (slightly) on the original purchase price (which at even half or a quater of the price they're still usually shocked anyway X| )

...you know what they don't know, doesn't hurt them...plus if I tell them that the cels were cheaper than they are...it all sounds better in my head and I can somehow justify it! :)

Depending on the quality of the freebie, I might keep it. If I do, it gets scanned and put up in my gallery. I mean, I display all those Gokudo cels . . . :P

Freebies that I don't want get sold or passed on with cels that I sell. The only one I have left that I haven't displayed is a cel of someone's (clothed) crotch. I have displayed modified pictures to a select crowd, though. Mostly to show how I felt about a certain person. /gg
