Anime you simply can't stand...

Post by sugarcels »

This anime could make you cringe, make you want to throw up in your mouth a little, or simply give you a headache. In any case, you don't like it. If you want, state your reasons why (because I'm sure some people who DO like it will ask ;)).

I can't stand Wedding Peach. It's not as if I haven't tried to like it. I watched up to episode 20 about 5 times (keep in mind, this was back in it's fansub days) before I gave up. And I love, love shoujo, so you'd think this would be a shoe-in. But this obsession with weddings, with getting boyfriends (you're simply not living properly if you don't have one or are not actively seeking one, apparently), with attacks like "Lily Lipliner Rainbow"... I just couldn't handle it

My list goes on, but the first one that comes to mind is one currently airing. Bo-Bo-Bo crap. :tongue :bwall :bwall

Actually, wedding peach is much better if you watch it on double speed... if you have a good DVD player, it should let you play it with subs this way, and not make the voices sound squeaky. It tends to drag with all its stock animation, but if you go quickly it isn't so bad.

Personally, I cannot stand any of the Dragonball incarnations. The character designs make me lose any interest I might have in the plot. *shudders*

I agree with GK: the new show, Bo-bo-bo Whatever is insane. I saw one episode, from start to finish, and had NO IDEA what was happening.

There are some other shows that I loathe, but these come to mind most quickly.

That was my first thought too. There was another one on CN, something Milkchan. I couldn't get past the commercials on that one, never even looked at an episode.

Yes I agree Milk-chan is terrible. I don't like bobobo, but it doesn't terrify me the way that Milk-chan did.

Most anime that I don't like I end up forgetting. I don't think about them again unless someone brings them up. Everyone has different tastes right? But sometimes an anime drifts into my "unpleasant feeling" category. That's bad. :emb

I think an anime deserves bigger negative points if it's the type of anime you would think you would normally like, but you don't. It's a lot easier to dislike and complain about an anime because it's not the TYPE of anime you normally like. :)

Anime where my main reason for dislike is because of the female lead:

Akage no Anne
Brigadoon
Rizelmine
Tenshi ni Narumon

Comedies that were wacky in a way that got on my nerves. They don't have my kind of humor at all:

Amaenai de yo
Final Approach
Hanaukyo Maid
Katekyo Hitman REBORN!
Kidou Shinsengumi Moeyo Ken
Koi Koi Seven
Lime-iru Ryuukitan X - One of the most disliked shows of all-time by the people who have seen it. :P
Mamotte Shugogetten
MAR
Miami Guns
Okusama wa Joshi Kousei - I think she is the only Ayako Kawasumi voiced character that I've ever disliked. I guess the idea of having a romantic comedy about holding in your feelings is annoying to me. :?

Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo - I should never again watch an anime with "Okusama" in the title. :O
Shijou Saikyou no Denshi Kenichi
Tokimeki Memorial TV series
Tsuyokiss - Why did they hire a director who didn't like the game's characters, personalities and character designs and so he changed them?
UFO Princess Valkyrie

Disliked adult anime:

Kiss Yori (Heat For All Seasons) - Why is he getting mad at his girlfriend being unfaithful when he's doing the same thing? I can't take either side. They're both acting like idiots.

Pendant - What horrible CG artwork. The characters frequently look like their noses are cut off. :puzzled I didn't think the story was very good either. Something really went wrong with the production I think.

Anime I don't like mainly because of the artwork:

Air Master
Alexander - X|

Three more that don't fit a category:

Macross 7
Master of Epic
Texhnolyze

OH oh I thought of something.

Gravion & Gravion Zwei

Gravion - obnoxious fan service and just generally not good looking overall. terrible story...
"wow there's a big alien about to attack the city. let's go fight it. we can't win in our separate machines let's form the big mech, *big mech swings, alien goes boom, everyone is happy*"
next ep
"wow there's a big alien about to attack the city. etc etc *big mech swings* oh it didn't work lets use our Super attack *big mech uses Super attack, alien goes boom, everyone is happy*"
Next Ep
"wow ... etc etc etc *big mech uses Super attack* oh it didn't work lets use our Super Duper attack *big mech .......... everyone is happy*"

Gravion Zwei - People know how bad Gravion was so for Zwei they decided to try to add a few twists to make it more interesting. However, I think that they realized at the end that no matter what they did it would never be a good show. So the threw in everything they could thing of, including one of the male characters actually being the main characters long lost sister.

Hitman Reborn...I couldn't finish the first epi, I find the hitman char annoying and creepy :puzzled

The other anime I couldn't sit past the early epis of 1st season is Sailormoon, hehe no offence to the many SM fans out there. But somehow the plot was a lil' mundane where it's meeting one villian after another and ultimately the bad guys are beaten. Not to mention there were times I was itching to smack Usagi (a lil' like how I felt abt Miaka when I watched FY).... *runs away before SM/Usagi fans beat me to a pulp* :wack

The first few that pop into my head are:
FY
AnC
D.N.Angel
There are a bunch of others that I can't remember. I know FY, and AnC are huge fan favorites, but they were just awful to me. I actually sat down and watched every episode waiting for it to get better, but it never did. Miaka was so anoying and whinny, and the fairy tale ending ugh... and AnC, I actually thought it was gonna be good at the beginning, and it just keep spiralling down. A couple of others that I didn't hate, but the endings piss me off were Gantz, Generator Gawl, and Flame of Recca (YYH ripoff). I'm still having closure issues w/ these series.

Oh, but it has such a great opening song! Such a dramatic sweeping line! You know a great adventure is about to begin!

Unfortunately, then the show starts X|

My hated show is Agent Aika. I know it's supposed to be a parody, but everything about it is sooo smarmy and repellent...YUCK :P

Oh and Knights of Ramune OAV= :roll Blech....

p.s. I love your chibi Gin, RalphVBoy!

And this is different from 99% of mech anime shows? :P *taunts Shellie*

I watch a little bit of just about everything, but there are some things that are hard sales to get me to watch and they have to hook me quickly or get dropped:
- Mech shows (see above for one major reason)
- Sports shows - Especially things like soccer and basketball which I don't even care for the real life equivalents of.
- Shows where it's nothing but 30 episode long fight sequences (especially with ugly, over muscled guys beating on each other)
- Yaoi/shounen-ai - 'Nuff said

Even I, someone who avidly collects Sailormoon cels, can not stand much of the first season(and second season) for pretty much the same reasons listed...and the animation quality was not that great, but I suppose that's to be expected during the initial seasons where animators are not quite used to the character.

Since most shoujo anime has been rather lackluster in the past few years("Tokyo Mewmew" and "Pichi Pichi Pitch" being the prime examples of a Sailormoon incarnate), I've turned to other genres.

One anime that I had put more hope in that probably has deserved is "Jigoku Shoujo". I liked the idea - a girl that one could call upon to exact revenge on those that would never be committed of their crime. The price for calling on this mysterious figure is the summoner's soul. However, after about ten episodes or so, regardless of the repetitveness of going on JS's website at midnight to summon her to help, the story itself is very depressing. Everyone has a serious issue - whether it's someone's little sister who was abducted/raped/killed or a little girl who brought her sick dog to a vet who refused to help because the dog didn't belong to someone famous...if I based my opinions of Japanese solely on this show(similiar to how a lot of foriegners think that Americans are into shooting each other), I'd really wonder if the Japanese have some serious psychological issues that they need to deal with.
