If I said... I hate Giant Robo because little kids in ties are horrible. You won't be offended. But ronin might be.

We have to keep in mind of our friends as well as ourselves! :vict

I enjoy reading posts that discuss why/why not he or she likes a certain show. It's helped me to branch out and explore other shows. Sometimes I delve into one just because someone's said something bland about it. If they say they like it and I in turn, like it as well, then hooray! One more for the DVD shelf. If not, I simply move on. I read reviews on anime that I like, that the reviewer has deemed horrendous (i.e. Gokudo).

I know many people like Chobits and TnN. I didn't care for them. How was that rude? How is it that we can rave about an anime show we love, but can't on those we don't?

I'm not the least bit offended by WC:
wELCOME cONSUMER wrote: Therefore, I don't like...

Dragonball, Inuyasha, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto and so on.
I like IY and Bleach.

This comment by wuchild1:
wuchild1 wrote: I know FY, and AnC are huge fan favorites, but they were just awful to me. I actually sat down and watched every episode waiting for it to get better, but it never did...
Perfectly fine. wuchild1 acknowledged that those shows are well liked. Kudos to them! I adore FY, but I'm not about to throw a fit over their comment.

And some have posted a caveat/disclaimer in their posts as to avoid ridicule.
Cordelia wrote: The other anime I couldn't sit past the early epis of 1st season is Sailormoon, hehe no offence to the many SM fans out there. *runs away before SM/Usagi fans beat me to a pulp* :wack
sugarcels wrote: I can't stand Wedding Peach. It's not as if I haven't tried to like it. I watched up to episode 20 about 5 times (keep in mind, this was back in it's fansub days) before I gave up. And I love, love shoujo, so you'd think this would be a shoe-in. But this obsession with weddings, with getting boyfriends (you're simply not living properly if you don't have one or are not actively seeking one, apparently), with attacks like "Lily Lipliner Rainbow"... I just couldn't handle it
wELCOME cONSUMER wrote: I'm not insulting people who like series I don't like. In fact, I don't expect or want people to like what I like, it makes collecting easier. :D I don't understand why people identify dislike of a "thing" with dislike of a "person." It's not the same. Not liking the same anime you like doesn't mean I hate you. And I feel compelled to say what I want about a particular series, especially Excel Saga because I really did try to like that series.
And this:
wELCOME cONSUMER wrote: My comments were not artfully worded because I thought this was supposed to be a flippant conversation.
You took the words right out of my mouth, WC. This thread should be nothing but harmless bantering and jollity.

I don't like slow animes...

for no particular reason other then I fall asleep when I have other things I want to do! :vict
Chrono Crusade - stupid. Chrono Crusade, along with Trinity Blood and several others, fall into a category of anime which really annoys me: those that misuse Christian and historical references -WC-
I'm pretty sure this is what most people find offensive... I don't mind it though. :vict

I find it kind of interesting to find out what people don't like. There was a similar thread on Animanga a few years ago.

http://www.eu.animanga.com/db/celsbook/ ... var=tnb=30

There was also a couple of follow up threads in response.

http://www.eu.animanga.com/db/celsbook/ ... var=tnb=30
http://www.eu.animanga.com/db/celsbook/ ... var=tnb=30

If it wasn't for those threads, I would never have continued to watch Utena any further. I hated the first season, but I went on and really enjoyed the Black Rose saga. Unfortunately, the show lost me again afterwards. Someone also privately recommended Noir for the strong female roles. I loved the show and would have missed out on it otherwise.

My response hasn't changed much over the years so here's what I said back in 2003. Some parts are particular to Animanga and the threads there, but you should get the idea.

Personally, I love a good discussion where you
can say what you really think and in turn hear
what others really feel. I liked the fact that
people seemed to feel free to say something that
may sound a little negative without worrying too
much that they were going to get flamed in
response. It seems like most discussions here are
either very polite or very rude. The one above
seemed more natural. I felt like I got to know
the people here better from that thread more than
any others I have seen lately.

I loved to hear about how others felt about
different shows. It let me see some shows that I
enjoyed (such as Kenshin-TV and OVA) from a
different perspective. It was also interesting to
get a sort of preview on shows I have not seen.
Nothing that was discussed would cause me to not
see a particular show, but I will be thinking of
the other posters here as I watch them. A simple
list of poor quality shows would have been more
helpful on what to avoid, but a discussion of
disliked shows (and why it was disliked) was much
more interesting. It told me as much about the
viewers as it did about the animes.

I have found a few that were not quite my cup of tea.

I could only stand a few episodes of Di Gi Charat before being driven close to insane by the constant ending of every sentence with Nyo. Stories & artwork are nice & cute but that dialog :bwall

I know lots loved Gankutsuou but the visual images with the miriad of designs & colors created an overload that left me with a headache after a couple of episodes.

Karas the prophecy lost me and I was unable to finish the story.

Now I know that what appeals to one may not to another. That's why we are lucky to have such a large selection of anime that can satify each person's tastes.

That thread didn't really tell me much about how good an anime was. It mentions almost all the animes up to 2003 and just says they are cruddy because of ugliness, lack of plot, wierdness, and/or boredom.

What was interesting though is that I got to learn alot about everyone's personality!

/thx
Woot Woot!!!

Ok, here we go ^_^

1). Dragon Ball, All of 'em - The series
wouldn't be so bad if there was a lot less talk
and a lot more fighting. They just blab, on and
on. SHUT UP ALREADY!!!

2). Kenshin TV - While the OAV's were cool I
have to say that the TV series was BORING. You
could sum up the entire series by saying,
Kenshin, Kenshin, Oreo, Oreo............
Hhmmmm Oreos.

3). Eva - A few years ago a friend of mine
showed me the first episode, he had a boot leg
copy from Japan. I laughed a it and said this is
never gonna make it what a lame story....Well it
sure won a lot of fans here....Still I think it
was lame.

4). Tenchi - Nuff Said

These are just a couple. I don't want to piss
off too many people at once. ^_^

-Cel Addict
I take that back! The thread also makes me laugh... This reply was just so funny!

Tenchi - Nuff Said

Eva- lame

Kenshin - Kenshin Oro Oro Oro

DragonBall- shut up already...

These were my favorites, Which ones are yours?

This comment reminds me of another anime I hate: Kare Kano. I adore the manga and was really into the anime, I was just crazy for it. Even despite the copious recap episodes, I remained loyal and enjoyed it so much. Until the end, that is. I know the manga was incomplete at the time, but the ending was so badly botched it left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Some Gainax anime suffer from poorly executed endings, mostly ones Anno worked on. Kare Kano is a prime example. For some reason, I cannot bring myself to re-watch it because of that crappy ending. :l

Kata, I think more Karas is going to be released soon. The wikipedia claims that the second half will be available in April. Hopefully, it is correct. :)

I can understand where you are coming from about Karas.
Karas is hard to follow, but I loved it for that reason.
It's fast paced, and it doesn't tell you everything at once. For me, watching it the 2nd, and 3rd times only made me enjoy it more because I noticed more.
I don't know where to find fansubs, I only have 3, so if someone finds the final 3 please let me know (but I suspect that they went away due to licensing)
The second/final DVD has been pushed back to Sept this year.
:redhot :redhot (really pissed at Manga Ent for that by the way) :redhot :redhot

I can also see how WC would be put off by religious references in anime. I don't let it bother me since the shows themselves aren't About religion, and are obvious works of fiction (vampires and demons). So I try not to think too much about it.

TB spoiler:
Although, I am seriously irritated that Ester in TB seems to have no significance other than the surviving heir to the throne of Albion.

I did not like the ending of Kare Kano either but can give Gainax a pass on it for a lot of it was not their fault. 2 years ago at Comic-con we sat in on a panel with Masami Tsuda the manga creator. She spoke a little about the anime and how she did not care to see some of the changes in the story line and how some of the characters were portrayed so she pulled out of negotiations for a second season which had been planned and plotted by Gainax. Left high & dry , they were forced to end mid story before the play was performed.

Karas was not bad, artwork was fantastic. But I wished they would release all the epis at once, I wouldn't haf bought it if I knew it wasn't complete. I had to double-check that I wasn't missing a disc or something X| (very similar to what happened when I watched Blood+ the movie, I couldn't believe that it juz ended like that)

Anyway, my take on this post is that I find it interesting to read abt why ppl don't like certain anime. None of the comments were made in mean spirit and there's always some justification. This is the kind of topics you talk abt with your frens, you may not agree but you still discuss abt it. I'm not offended when ppl say they don't like my fave animes. I love FY but hey, I understand when ppl find Miaka annoying :P Bleach is great but to a person who doesn't like long animes, its length can be a deterrant.

As mentioned, our tastes are very diverse as shown by our cel collections (and that's a good thing).

Some of them could be though.

In America. You can find the first half at Best Buy or your preferred anime dealer.

Bad Duck, get back on topic.

Ok I also disliked DiGiCharat. I found it painful to watch. Even though the eps were only 15 min, and therefore slightly more tolerable, even skipping all the opening and endings didn't get it over fast enough.

In my opinion Bottle Fairy is a much more preferable alternative if you want an anime with short cute eps.
