P.O. rant

Post by miz ducky »

Post Office, not Pissed Off.

So last year the post office put up a big sign and sent out little post cards saying that they were NOW OPEN UNTIL 6pm!!

And there was much happiness.

Now, all of a sudden I go to pick up a package at 5:20 and they are CLOSED!

The numbers on the window have been changed, but where is the big sign and notice to postal customers that we shouldn't waste our time if we can't make it before 5pm?

If you increase hours it doesn't inconvenience anyone who still thinks your hours end earlier. However, if you reduce hours and don't tell anyone then you are inconveniencing all the people who had to find out the hard way.

I know how frustrated you are. :( Most PO's stay open till 5pm here however there are a few that stated they will be closing at 4.30pm. Then during the winter months they close even earlier, around 4.15pm. I think its silly! :x

mine aroudn here has always closed at 4:30... >_< 11:30a on saturday... I've learned to adjust myself... I'm use to 5:30 and 12:30 in the town I grew up in. Seems odd, it's dead near impossible for a lot of people to even make it to the post ofice mon-fri, if they get off work at 5, but I guess that is why there are Saturday hours.

This is why I have come to know and love the little 24 hour self-service kiosk in the lobby.

Bless them. Bless them often and loudly.

The one and only truly good decision they've come to around here in a VERY long time !

(of course it's not awfully useful if you need something out of the ordinary, but for your basic package-mailing, it's hard to beat).

Amen sister! 8) I love the 24hr kiosks when they're working. I wish they had something 24hr for package pickup.

I do all my packaging using the paypal ebay buttons... It gives free delivery confirmation. The .50 cent delivery confirmation adds up very quickly when you ship packages every day.

My PO is open until 7 on weekdays, and around 3 or 4 on the weekends. But I live in a highly populated area, so that might be the reason. Before, when I lived in a small town, I think it was, like, noon on Saturday, and 5 or 6 weekdays. It's quite confusing :x

Thankfully I never really go there except to mail packages, and I print labels and pay for shipping online via Paypal, so all I have to do is drop them off. On the rare occasion that I have to go international, then I endure the line.

i agree 100%, and i also firmly believe that if you let in customers before closing, they have the right to be serviced even if it is a little after the closing time. one time i had soooo many packages to prepare, so i got to the PO an hour before closing, but the line was so long that i took my sweet time. 5pm (closing hour) rolls by and they practically kicked me out the door, and told me to come back the next day. grr. :hurt:
