Hawaii Residents - Help Please??
I need your help!
My husband and I are really thinking of Moving to Hawaii.
We need help though as to what are some good places to look for apartments? Available Jobs? What part of the islands (or which island) is best to live at?
Anything that can help us will be very appriciated!
Thanks so much!

The best part.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

From what I know from my relatives and from trips gas, food, etc. are more expensive out there since its more expensive to ship them out there. Land prices are very high and rent is quite high too I believe.
But I think most wages are a little higher out there too since it's harder to import people from the surrounding area since the surrounding area is OCEAN.
From what I see though, the increase in wages falls way short of making up for the higher prices of everything else. My mom at one point was making 85 cents more per hour than she would have had she been doing the same thing in California.

NIIICE!! take lots of pictures!!! lolZombieBunny wrote:We plan on going over there with A LOT of money saved up to fall back on. I have researched some sites and have found really good places to live for about $150 more than what we are paying here.
The cost of living wont be a problem, just finding a good place and jobs are. LOL

I would focus on the Tourist industry.
If I were to go to Hawaii it would be to sell things to the tourists... Tourists always bring money with them.
I'm sure there would be a ton of jobs in the tourist places.

I had relatives who lived over there, aside from the higher prices be prepared for racism. The locals treat "transplants" like crap and rip you off as much as possible. Don't be surprised when it blatantly happens and you get screwed by a local for anything because nobody will do or say anything. It's just how it goes.
Good luck I hope the best for you.

If you want to make big bucks, become an exterminator. The islands all have overwhelming bug and roach problems.
My brother and his wife live there. As others have said, it can be costly and there is a bit of nationalism in the natives, but it depends on where you go. Pretty cool asian cuisine tho.
Shipping your car and personal effects can be a real pain in the ass. I honestly wouldn't recommend living there. Just my personal opinion.

as a "transplant" myself, I do not recommend trying to live here.
I have to make twice as much to live here compared to what I needed living in Tampa FL (but, that sort of thing will depend on what you are used to). I despise the traffic situation here. Unless living on an island really appeals to you, then I would say that it's a great place to visit.
There are things that I considered normal, that I learned not to take for granted out here. My job keeps me here, but when my contract is up you better believe that I'm out-a-here.
I would say that you should go where the jobs are. If you are trying to go to a specific school then go for it. Go to the place where you can achieve your goals.
The cost of living in "paradise" is high and I'm not talking about $$$.
