This is really disapointing news to us...
i never thought that the locals would be like that. I knew the cost of living would be high but as you guys are putting it, its just not worth it.
Very sad news for us.... :\ ....

The only help I can give you is that if you move there then you will have access to purchasing cel bags from the Heiko store, lol.
I hope you find something Zunny!!! *hugs*
EDIT: I just reread the thread and can't believe how stressing it seems to be for those of you living there or have family that live there. My friends brother and his wife moved there a few years back but only stayed for a year or two before coming back to WV. He was a tattooist and his job took him to Hawaii, but his wife became very homesick and I think he wasn't doing as well out there as he had here.
Whatever you and your hubby decide Zunny I wish you best of luck and happiness!

I didn't mean to get you down. It's just that Hawaii is like New York. A nice place to visit but I woudn't want to live there.ZombieBunny wrote:This is really disapointing news to us...

Leave Hawaii to the islanders, haole (a derogatory term for transplants) like us should stick to the mainlands

I second the prejudice against transplants.
If you really want to move to a different state/country, it's best to spend a few weeks there during different parts of the year to see if you can handle it. When I went to Hawaii for a few weeks in 2003, I noticed that there was a "local" price and a tourist price. In order to benefit from the local price, you either had to have a Hawaii Driver's License or some store card that they gave at their discretion. Although there was one grocery store in the Honolulu area that didn't blatantly flaunt their favortism, the majority did.
I find the Honolulu region to be a nightmare, and as most of the jobs are in this region, it's probably where you'll be residing. Driving conditions were horrible(the first shock was that people actually drive the speed limit - in San Francisco, the limit is just a suggestion), and, if I were to go back again, I'd avoid Oahu at all costs and instead relax on Big Island.
I'd also pack a good quality conterfeit Hawaii DL too

Out of curiousity I did research myself about a year ago, and came across a message board that had info on people living in and looking to live in Hawaii (I've lost the link, but if I find it again I'll post it). The majority there was negative. I was honestly SHOCKED that a place that looked so fun and cool could actually be so terrible
My dad lived there for about 6 months when he was in college and did not mention things like this.
I know this sounds stupid, but I would probably move there just to mingle with the Japanese population
