Is trading cels with others effective?

Post by majinuub »

I was always curious about trading cels with other collectors since I've yet to do so myself. Can anyone recall doing this? If so, what is the process involved in it? Are you more satisfied with the trade or trading in general than just paying for the cel itself?

I've traded a few cels before. It's always been a great experience as both I and the trader have received the cels. Generally, how it's worked for me, is we both come to agreement on what cel(s) to trade, and both agree to ship (with delivery confirmation) at the same time, with each other paying our own postage. Like I said earlier, I've not had any problems with this so far, and I've done this at least 10 times now.

This is great especially if you have a wishlist item of someone elses that also has a wishlist item for you. :D

I didn't trade a cel but I did trade a sketch before. It went very smoothly. Generally I would say the person who starts the trade (offers) should send theres to the individuals they are offering and then once the other party recieves it they should send the sketch you recieved. The trade I had went very nicely. The person was very easy to work with, I seeked the sketch because my offer of money was rejected and they sent the sketch and I sent the sketch and we both recieved it roughly the same time (a day or two). My remarks are:

- Be careful who you trade with and if you do the results will speak for themself. If you feel unsure about it (regarding if they will send there piece) then I suggest you ask around regarding the creditability of the individual prior to offering the trade (or accepting).

Traded some cels with Zag twice. Went great. Trades are relatively rare i think, but that's because you have to have cels you want to get rid of match up with cels you want that someone else wants to get rid of and that can be difficult to juggle. So if the opportunity arises it can be worth it.

I have done 1 trade before and it worked out well. I usually keep my collection small so that doesnt leave me wanting to part with anything-if the trade were for a wishlist of course that could be different. Also I don't think trades are too rare. I know a few people that have done them and everything has went fine. It also helps if you know the person well. The cels also dont have to be something you want to get rid of. In my trade I hadnt planned on letting the sketch go but the trade was for something I had wanted and worked out well for both of us.

I have done three trades and in each case I was very pleased with the transaction. Each time I was contacted by someone who wanted to trade for a particular cel and sometimes they gave me the run of their collection to pick out what I wanted. We sent each other the cels at the same time with tracking and notified each other of receipt of the package. It is a leap of faith but I like to believe most people are honest. 8)

I have only done 1 trade but it was was with a person with whom I know and it went quite well.

I've done a total of six trades (that seems high :emb ), and all have worked out really well. Three out of those six I've initiated myself. There is a large degree of trust that has to be put on both parties when a trade's involved. Luckily I've worked with some absolutely wonderful collectors, so I'm pretty optimistic when approached with a trade :D .

As for the process that goes into one, I generally approach the collector with the item I'm interested in, and ask them if they see anything that interests them from my own. Most collectors are pretty nice about the interest whether they themselves are interested or not, so I've never had anyone write me back angry about the inquiry. Then if both sides agree, I generally ship exactly as Birdie said and try to get both items going at the same time, with insurance and tracking.

I couldn't say that it's more satisfying trading necessarily, I generally trade when I'm looking for an item that I can't find for sale. If I could find that item for sale I'd go with that over a trade. This is mostly because while I do enjoy the results of a trade, I'm generally trading something I would not necessarily have parted with otherwise.

I've done numerous trades. All have been pleasant transactions. But I've always traded with members of the cel community who are "known" to me. I've never traded with a perfect stranger before.

I've never done a trade before but would suggest seeking recommendations on someone before going through with one. If you don't know someone very well, it would be better to be safe than sorry. Request to know a few names of people they've dealt with in the past, do some fact checking and research. Is the person good with communication, a prompt shipper, trustworthy and so on.

I've done one trade before, and it went really well. We just so happened to be selling some stuff at the same time, and we each saw something we wanted on the other's sell/offer page. :D It made me very happy since I got a cel from a series I tend to collect from, and I cut down my list of series a bit. The poor boy was all alone in his own section, and he wasn't going to get any friends in the near future. So he went off to live with someone who would appreciate him more. :)

I had dealt with this particular collector in the past, so I wasn't worried at all. We shipped at the same time with d/c and paid for our own shipping.

I have traded a few times and it has gone very well. There is always a risk if neither party knows each other. Ebay feedback or references may help.

A third party that both people know and trust could also be brought in. Both collectors could send the items to the third party. Once that person receives and checks the items she/he can forward them to the other two collectors. There would be the extra shipping costs/etc that would have to be paid to the third party, but it might be worth it if you are unsure about trading an expensive item.
