50 people got shot today at Virginia Tech. More than 30 of them are dead. It shows that while it takes one madman with 2 guns to make violent history, it could've taken one legally armed citizen to stop it. Sadly though it was a gun free campus.

This is the deadliest shooting so far on the recordbooks.

I thought you were talking about my cordless phone! :vict

Please pray that this doesn't continue...

I know that if everyone in class had a handgun then they could have stopped this person.

But then there would just be more incidents if everyone had a gun.

If you give just the teacher a gun, then they would be killed first or their gun could have been taken instead.

Really it's just like a suicide bomber, except with handguns.

I think that there should be a public Ad Council TV/Radio campaign that says... "Killing kids at school is no better then being a suicide bomber."

If you take the glory out of going down in blazing gun fire... then there wouldn't be any copy cats. :vict

I'm so fed up with this, and copycats. Geez, grow up and solve your emo problems the real way. Who knows what this guys' motive was. It's no different than that of Columbine. I'm so tired of this war happening in our own country. This resolves nothing, nor does it prove a point. I'm so disgusted right now. :x

I have to wonder if the media doesn't contribute to this. By giving such high profile coverage to stunts like this and making the killers (or at bare minimum their deeds) to be household words, are they encouraging people who obviously aren't that stable to "go out in a blaze of glory" more than they are educating people about the dangers and preventing this?

From what they are saying, the motive began as a man looking for his girlfriend. I agree with NSP. I would not let my child on a campus where the guards are not allowed to carry guns.

As for going out big, when you kill one person, the justice system does not distinguish from 1-30 at that point. I don't think it's as much about glory, as it is about inflicting your pain on a seemingly uncaring world. As with Columbine, you have a young person who took their rage and depression out on the world around them. Sounds ridiculous to most of us, but it's the truth. As with any other case like this, I think the parents of the shooter shoulder the brunt of the blame. But the school should be sued and the trustees need to be reprimanded for having such an inadequate security team. At my school, UNLV, we have Metro police on campus. Not rent-a-cops, police.

The Media is Definitely part of the problem. :vict

That's one reason why I think there are so many suicide bombers in other countries.

Everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame and....

And if you blow up 30 people, You get international recognition and sympathy.

A really dumb film director (Michael Morone) (sp?) may even make an award winning documentary about how it's not really your fault and it's because you weren't accepted in school.

Now if you aren't accepted at school... then it's not your fault? And you can kill everyone? What kind of logic is that?

Love will save the world. :vict

p.s. Look even Blue heaven has bought into the idea that the shooters in columbine are victims in an uncaring world. Half the united states believes that the shooters at columbine are victims now. That's the real problem. :vict

I suppose I would take offense to that if I actually thought you knew what the hell you were talking about. I deal with kids like these on a daily basis. Kids who feel isolated for being who they are. I think it is really unfortunate that we ask THEM to change simply because it would make them easier to accept. The guy who killed those college students today was a psychopath. But that does not diminish the responsibility of those around him to take notice of the warning signs. The same goes with the Columbine kids. The signs were there, and no one listened. So RF, stop talking out of your ass about a subject that you have no experience with. I see a side to these kids that even their parents are clueless about. They have told me things about their thoughts, their experiences, and their lives that would shock the hell out of any parent on this board. Are the shooters at Columbine killers, absolutely. But they played the victim for many years prior to that fateful day and nobody noticed. So don't think for a minute that you have anything more to say to, or about me.

What scares me is that the shootings started at 7:15am, then even more people were shot at a different location at around 9:45am, and then 10:15am. What the hell were the police doing during those three hours?!!!!! :|

My college has real police officers on campus. They have a station on campus, too. It makes me feel a little better, but still, this whole thing is really scary for me. :(

I'm very pissed off at this! I was sick today and missed school and then I see this on the news! Why do these f^cked up people have to kill others! Why do people like that live, but people who actually get off their asses and do something die or are treated like crap! I'm sick of crazy people and lazy asses! You can't really rely on cops now a days!

I live in Indiana and don't know anyone from there, but I still cried. If you got rid of all of the human trash (greedy, never had or wanted a job in their life people) in the world, then we wouldn't be overpopulated (I think taht we are REALLY overpopulated) and probably wouldn't have stuff like global warming (Since gas tycoons are mad about other, better, types of fuel, like water powered).

This seriously sickens and disturbs me. I graduated from VT, and it was one of the safest and nicest places. I was just back there last fall recruiting. I didn't realize campus police didn't carry guns? Blacksburg and VT police were almost synonymous since they worked so closely together, so it seems odd one would be on campus with guns and the other not.

Norris is an odd hall to choose if the person was really intending to go out in a big way.

klet – the Blacksburg police station is on the border of the campus and downtown Blacksburg; the distance is like being on campus. I honestly have no clue where the VT police station was on campus.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the students, faculty, and their families.

Guns have existed for thousands of years...

Schools have existed for thousands of years...

Isolated mistreated kids in schools have existed for thousands of years...

Mass Murders in Schools have only begun.

And until we as a people STAND UP AND ASK THEM TO CHANGE and ACCEPT RESPOSIBILITIES more people will die. :vict

It has become a competition on how many people you can kill until the police kill you. Next time it will be 50 people dead. Then someone will use bombs and kill 150 people.

Until we "TELL THEM IT IS YOUR FAULT for killing." Then it will only get worse!

The it's not your fault mentality is the primary reason why it's become trendy to kill.

Feel free to debate with me... I am not at all offended by what you say about me or about my opinions.

I am really at a loss for words...

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and the ones affected by this horrible incident. /lv

There are many points that I agree with that some of you have said. We should focus our thoughts and prayers to the Victims in this tragedy.

The gunman is a psycho. A moron. thoughtless. To take the lives of innocent people...and for what?

Robo....What the hell is your problem? Your thoughts and logic on this topic is complete bullshit. You make no sense and you are acting like you know what you are talking about. People died. 32 innocent people.

You do not need to be saying ignorant things at a time like this. You have not even said anything about the victims at all. Your focused on the dumb ass who killed them. There is no way to debat with you as you are thoughtless. Your "Love will save the universe" crap didnt help save the 32 killed....and they were loved. By family and friends.

Think about what you say before you say it.....honestly.
