Collecting of title satisfaction point?
Have you ever became satisfied with the cels/sketches you'd gotten from one of your favorite series and so you decided to move onto other shows?
Or do you keep trying to obtain more artwork from you favorite series regardless?
Do you continue to have much interest in collecting from your favorite series even after many years have past? What keeps your interest going?
Is the lower supply of quality artwork for sale from your favorite series causing you to lose any interest in collecting from them?
Or do you keep trying to obtain more artwork from you favorite series regardless?

With Pokemon and Hey Arnold, I think I will ALWAYS be on the lookout for cels - for them, it is my goal to have a sizable collection.
Truthfully, I do not feel very "satisfied" until I have at least a few cels for each show - otherwise the cel site feels empty (not counting Misc section, which is pretty much a one or two shot deal). After that I may drop it if I just don't feel motivated. Saint Tail is an example.
Low quality of cels, lack of ANY cels, or consistent bidding wars when something does pop up, discourages me and it can really cause frustration and boredom with the certain show.

It is a good question.... Lately I cannot find any good cels from Kenshin OVAs so I am kinda bored with collecting cels. But of course, I am still collecting RK cels but while there is none, I collect other cels
such as goemon cels from lupin....
Also now I am trying to get some of rare mangas such as mugen shinshi......
But I do not think I will ever stop colleting Kenshin and Kaoru cels

I think the main issue when you ask about being "satisfied" with a certain amount of cels/sketches from your favorite series relies mainly on price/ availability. Since I have started collecting (almost a year ago) I have been obsessed with Juuni Kokki sketches. My drive to obtain more has not depleted but I am slowly reaching a point where finding quality sketches from the show are harder and harder to come by. I can be certain if I will be having that the main focus of my collection years from now but at the current time I can say that I will always be continuning to look for quality JK sketches to add to my collection. I dont see a point that I can say "ok I have enough now."
Do you continue to have much interest in collecting from your favorite series even after many years have past? What keeps your interest going?
Well like I said above its almost been a year since I collected and my main focus has always been Juuni Kokki. The interest that drives me to continue is seeking sketches from the show that I love. The drive in owning more sketches from my favorites scenes is what keeps me going and there are many scenes that I really enjoyed in the series that I have yet to come across yet (sketch wise) so I will continue my search.
Is the lower supply of quality artwork for sale from your favorite series causing you to lose any interest in collecting from them?
I wouldn't say lose of interest but due to lower supply that means I will have more funds to spend on my other favorites series that I hope to expand in the near future.

Depends on the series. With a few, I'll never feel satisfied and actively collecting is part of the fun. However, with most series, I feel satisfied and while I don't not look for new items, I tend to not have much interest in what I see beyond what I already own. I try to keep my interests extremely specific and narrow so I don't break the bank.
I'm a "little bit from this and a little bit from that" collector, preferring to own a couple cels from everything I enjoy. There are very few series I feel I need tons of cels from. The bigger the impact an anime has on me, the bigger my collection is for that series.
Time is irrelevant, save for the fact that I managed to obtain a great deal of what I want, so naturally the hunt wanes when you already own what you wanted in the first place (if that makes sense
) I look at collecting animation art as a lifelong hobby, something to be savored. Some things are rare enough to be one-of-a-kinds and missing those unique opportunities can be a real downer. But for the most part, there are enough materials to eventually come back around and be available once more to fuel the desire to collect.
The lack of quality art in circulation is rather a bummer at times because I tend to want instant gratification. There are plenty of series that I would love to own a cel from, but the sheer lack of presence in the market can make for a bit of a killjoy when you're hunting. Sometimes I think, "If I'm lucky enough to stumble across a decent cel from ____, I'll definitely bid." Patience is crucial and a lifetime is a long time.

Have you ever become satisfied with the cels/sketches you've gotten from one of your favorite series and so you decided to move onto other shows?
There are a few shows where I have reached the point that I am no longer searching for new cels. That doesn't mean I won't jump on something I that really grabs me. Its just that I am satisfied with what I currently own. "Completion" of one show is not the main reason I go on to collect from other show. I start to collect from another anime because I like it too. I find it rather nice to be collecting from a larger number of anime. With one notable exception, its getting harder to find cels from shows I like. Expanding to new ones keeps me on the lookout. The more I search, the more likely I am to come across nice cels from any show; old or new.
Do you continue to have much interest in collecting from your favorite series even after many years have past?
There are some shows that I am not as interested in collecting from as I once was, but for most anime I find my interest is still very strong. The main reason I slow down collecting from a particular show is that I reach the point where I feel my gallery has a good representation of the main characters in it. Additions are usually to round out the show with interesting minor characters.
Is the lower supply of quality artwork for sale from your favorite series causing you to lose any interest in collecting from them?
No not really. It just means that there is more competition for those fewer pieces of artwork.

Satisfied? No. Perhaps happy and therefore not anxious to expand in a dramatic, expensive way, and therefore pickier about what I watch for and bid on. But satisfied? No. I do constantly look at other shows, and there are times when I develop a new interest. At that time you'll see a quick and dramatic increase in holdings. (This year, for instance, saw a big increase in my Tonde Buurin and Powerpuff Girls Z holdings.) But my old interests have never faded, and I've continued to add items, though less dramatically.Have you ever became satisfied with the cels/sketches you'd gotten from one of your favorite series and so you decided to move onto other shows?
No: if there's just sub-quality art available, I won't bite. But I'll keep watching, in case something nice comes along. I haven't gotten any Hyper Police cels lately, for instance, just because I haven't seen any that I need to have.Or do you keep trying to obtain more artwork from your favorite series regardless?
The intrinsic quality of the show and the compelling nature of the art for sale. If it's something that represents a memorable moment in the show for me, and it's something that a person who knows nothing about the show will look at and say, "that's nice," then it's worth having.Do you continue to have much interest in collecting from your favorite series even after many years have past? What keeps your interest going?
No, it just makes me a leaner, cannier, sneakier, slyer collector. Is the lower supply of quality artwork for sale from your favorite series causing you to lose any interest in collecting from them?
Another thread asks if there are series I've ceased to collect from. Yes, I dissolved my Chobits collection earlier this summer because it had never really added up to much. "A little bit of everything," in Frost's words, "and a great deal of none." Also, I've not added anything from Princess Tutu in a year, because the stuff is pricy and hasn't been showing up FA lately. But when I looked at my "Claw Nest" background this week, before putting it into cold storage for the move, I still held my breath for a long couple of seconds. Give me a nice lot, and I'll still pull the string for this series.

At the moment I think I won't be satisfied for a long long time. The shows I really collect, Voltes V, Daimos and RK are either too old, rare or expensive. :-/ Also I have different goals for my main collection than my other collection and those goals are rather hard to satisfy and I'm more stubborn with them.
Or do you keep trying to obtain more artwork from you favorite series regardless?
I collect more artwork yes, because I am not satisfied with my collection yet as I've not reached the goal. This doesn't mean I will just buy anything from a series, usually if it's really sub-par I won't buy, however I have to balance the aesthetic value, emotional attachment vs the rareness and price of it... Plus if it somehow fills my goal, that too is a big consideration. If it takes me a step closer to my goal, usually I do sacrifice -something-. I'd rather that sacrifice be money though... LOL...
Do you continue to have much interest in collecting from your favorite series even after many years have past? What keeps your interest going?
I've only been collecting cels for less than a year. If my love for the anime I collect is any indication, then I will be collecting for a long long time unless I have no source of income or it's drastically cut. What keeps me going in my cel collecting is my goals for a particular series.
Is the lower supply of quality artwork for sale from your favorite series causing you to lose any interest in collecting from them?
No... As I mentioned the main cels I collect are in themselves rare and old. A 30 year old cel will show it's age and the show has been collected by many other collectors before I even knew I was watching anime. So.... it just means I have to be a bit more resourceful in my collecting and admit as well that perhaps my collection will never reach the imaginary heights I have in my head. *cough* This applies to RK as well where age isn't the big factor but popularity which lends collecting it to be highly competitive. *cough* However I am very happy right now with what I've done with my gallery with what I consider limited amount of resources. To be honest... Although I'm still astounded by my ability to ummm spend, I'm more astounded at the fact that I think I have build a modest collection in such a short time... Sorry if I'm lifting my own bench here but I am -very- happy.

I've tried it in the past but it doesn't really work in theory, something always comes along from said series that demands to be purchased. Like some other I'd agree that there is a satisfaction point where I become more comfortable with my collection from a series and become a lot more picky about new additions.
Then there are the ones I collect for that I have no intended limit placed,as long as good stuff turns up, it's game on.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Woah! So many questions at once.
I'm satisfied with Trigun and Sailor Moon. I find myself never searching for them. With Sailor Moon, the quality is usually very bad so it's extremely hard to find one without the terrible line fading. That's kinda why I stopped looking. If I randomly run across a good one, that's another story.
With Trigun, once I got my perfect Vash and perfect Wolfwood, I lost all interest in looking. I haven't searched Trigun cels in 5 years and don't see me starting again anytime soon. That collection is complete. And no, they aren't for sale.
I'm always on the lookout for anything Yuu Watase. Taking a look at my collection, you can tell I can never get enough of her art. But sadly, primo shots just aren't readily available and some have been ruined by being signed.
But if one happens to roll around, hands off! It's mine!

I'm happy and satisfied with my collection, over all, which leads me toward being a lot more picky with regard to what I want to add into my gallery.
Realistically, there are a few sections of my collection that I know will not grow, mainly because I will never be able to find the types of cels I want from those shows. I still look for the art, though, from time to time. And, if I did find something that fell into that category, I would try my hardest to grab it.
For the series I consider the "core" of my collection, I doubt I'll ever be satisfied enough to stop collecting from them. I might go for months without adding anything new, but I'm always on the look-out for pieces that appeal to me from those three or four shows.
I do, sometimes, add new shows into my collection, but that is based on finding a show that I love ... or where the characters "speak" to me, more than being satisfied or done with another part of my collection.
I feel like I continue to have a lot of interest in collecting from my favorite shows. I tend to be very loyal in my fannish-ness. When I really, really love something, well, that feeling sticks, and it's what keeps me interested in collecting. Provided can find the type and quality of artwork I want.
A lower supply of quality artwork is distressing, of course. But, it doesn't make me less interested in collecting from my favorite shows. It makes me more realistic in that I know, going into a situation, that there is likely to be more competition. It also has changed the way in which I collect, to a certain extent, as fewer and fewer dealers have quality art from my core shows. YJ remains an OK source for now, although there will be months and months with nothing. For the most part, I realize that my collection will grow through transactions with my fellow collectors. Also, the lower supply has made me more patient about the hobby -- willing to wait it out until something I want comes along.
