Dealer updates have turned into almost a "nostalgic" kind of memory for me.

Ah...the old days. They seem so far away to me now. Things were so much simpler back then. :(

Just saw AA's recent update and remembered this thread -

"9-26-2007: Star Wars card set on eBay."

...?

I just don't get it.

Heh...how about back before Keep Track when we had to look through cel dealer websites by hand (and check them throughout the entire day)? You also had to check cel collector's For Sale pages too in case they decided to sell off something you might like. Very time consuming. X|

I had a WebTV back when I first started collecting and the only way I could arrange my saved cel dealer links was by adding letters in front of their names. The cel dealers I checked the most frequently were arranged higher on my favorites list (it's amusing to look back at this list now):

My favorites URL order from December 30, 1998:

Links One:
A - Animanga Main Page

I kept this running list of Anime Taro updates trying to guess the more likely time spans of updates (Los Angeles time):

Oh man... Taro updates. Those were definitely the days. I remember waiting for those 50% sales to begin. I think at one point we had to wait like a day and a half with no clear word of when it would start - and then crashing the site when it did. XD

I really miss the excitement of Anime Shop Pocket's secret lottery, too. I only got to participate once before they closed. n.n

It's really depressing to see the market dry up as rapidly as it did. But I guess that's what happens when the animation studios label cels as a thing of the past. I guess it's a good thing I'm not nearly as attracted to sketches as I was to cels, otherwise I wouldn't even be able to afford what very few FY come along these days (I -really- miss the few years of almost all FY cels being under a $100...)

sigh.... n.n;

oh man I haven't heard that name in ages O_O
I remember how much ppl's panties wouold get in a twist
when they couldn't get the url and complain how clique-y
just getting the link was LOL! :crackup

but they had great cels... too pricey for me.. :P
like D_M I was younger and very lil disposable income to spend =_=
/wah
I am happy I did buy the few Ranma cels of Shampoo I could yrs ago,
I'd never see again had I not just splurge.. but boy was it tough
just eating ramen for months right afterwards LOL!
:rollin :hitting:

Like Taro, I miss Chaos' updates too!
:bawl
I remember whenever Nick updated w/ any Mink cels his website would
also get a funky 404 error XD
Speakin of which 1 popped up on Mandy a few weeks ago
did anyone see how high it ended? last time I checked there were still
a few days left and already at 300 ish
/?:
Anywho, yea.... miss those frequent dealer updates =_=
Unfortunately, despite them not happening, I still manage to
spend like a siv thanks to genga market --though that is going away
as well since they started tablets. :tongue

damn
:dsad

Oh!
In answer to the thread question, I think the reason why
it got updated is because a.a. dumped some of the last remaining
cel stock htat didnt sell on the site on ebay just a few days ago

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ranma-1-2-Anime-Pro ... dZViewItem

it was definetely a blast from the past when I stumbled upon
the auction when it was listed. 8O

Almost won her...Was the high bidder the whole time til the last day...LOL! If I wouldn't of been called into work early that morning I woulda' been her new owner...Damn needs of the business!

I too miss the "Golden Age" of cel collecting. There were so many choices, and so many choice cels...Taro updated regularly...I rarely see Stephen update anymore =(...I know dealers still find a lot of great stuff from their private dealers in Japan...But I wonder if we, the collector, drove them to it? Like, all of their secondary sources (Y!J, etc) were invaded? The decline of online cel shop updates seemed to of happened around the same time deputy services opened up...

Oh nooess! >_<;;

Ahhh dontcha hate it when that happens??

i tend to have sleepiness get in the way of Mandy auctions, since
they seem to end on Saturday or Sunday mornings I will accidentally
hit the snooze and get outbid on a cel by 100 yen or something
O_O

Yea I agree w/ ya Poe!

YHJ killed dealer updates big time..:bawl:
I think the way its seen is:
why sell bulk of cels to a dealer who will markup when you
can just post online and reap the rewards yourself? :P
I think that generality on YHJ could have harmed many of the cel dealers'
sources and business.. /wah
then w/ deputies aiding more foreigners (anyone not in JP) to
bid it just fanned that yhj-selling flame.
Though I *still* think dealers get more A grade stuff that
we will never truly know they came from.
Kinda a cool mystery that keeps us excited and on our
toes when the glorious *UPDATE* banner is shining on their
frontpages

The time period between when I started to "seriously" collect cels and when I started using Yahoo Japan seems like AGES.

In reality it only lasted slightly longer than two and a half years. My time spent WITH Yahoo Japan is almost three times longer.

It sure doesn't feel like it. Where has all the time gone? Maybe when you're younger time moves slower? ?^_^?
