I Need Something New To View - Post Your Recommendations!

Post by JuniorMintKiss »

Hiya,

So I would like to expand my anime collection, as I am tired of what I have so far.

I've seen: Rune Soldier, Pretear, Scrapped Princess, InuYasha, YYH, Gokudo, Fruits Basket, OMG, FY, Bleach, Kodocha.

I am looking into the following animes. Are they worth seeing?

-Hikaru No Go
-Full Metal Alchemist
-Legend of Himiko
-Card Captor Sakura

Your thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks.

You like Romantic Action Anime's!!!

I'd recommend FMA! Great Story Great Movie! Watched it like 3 times
Hikaru No Go! Beautiful story lol... ask Nida! Watched it about 5 times
and Card Captor Sakura! Beautiful Anime and Good Love Story as well!

I think I would like FMA and HNG over Card Captor Sakura...

I'm not sure why... but, I think it's because I watched CCS a long time ago and the dub quality was like BAD...

I'll have to get DvD's for CCS and rewatch them soon!

If you don't want to go broke from buying cels and sketches... I would recommend Legend of Himiko. :vict

I could list a million reasons why you should watch Hikaru No Go, and not a single one why you shouldn't. I state my anime fandom life on that you would 100% enjoy watching Hikaru no Go. If you watch it completely, and dont like it (I am talking Japanese with english subtitles..) To atone for it I will commit Seppuku.

So yea... Watch HnG

Here is a review I personally wrote on HnG several years back:

Sadly the pictures dont work (hosted them on my comcast server space but when i switched to verizon lost them all...)

Based of the list of what you say you've seen i would recomend Orphan (action comedy).....sould be an affordable box set availabe

Course......since you like fruits baskets (romance comedy)....i would point out Kare Kano (English name "his and Her cercumstance")..also a romantic comedy.........but then again....i recomend it to everyone...

Which brings up the Question aas to why EOP didn't recomend 12 Kingdoms......bit out of Charcter for him..... :?

8O Great question lol. Re-reading her post I realize that she was looking for any type of recommendations.. I thought she was debating which one of the following she should watch.. But if any series... Then Juuni Kokki without a doubt 8)

Several other series:

Akagi - This is one unique but kick=ass series. Really unique series. Highly recommended. (high thriller)

Great Teacher Onizuka - Awesome Comedy

Genshiken - Living life like an Otaku. Hilarous series.

Maison Ikkoku - This is a true classic, a must see by all anime fans. Has all the elements that make an awesome anime. The ending is perfect.

I could list alot more.. but first watch the 6 series I mentioned in the thread first :P

It also really depends on your preferences as well. Anime has its own genre of items, some are serious, others funny.

I have seen parts of CCS and I've seen almost all of FMA. I highly recommend both. They are extremely different from one another but offer a very good storyline.

I've not seen the others you have mentioned. If you are into mechas, you might want to look into Gundam series, or NGE. Be warned, NGE has a mind of its own. I also like the boyish DBZ, so if you are into action you might like it too. The only thing that bothers me about DBZ is the amount of time it takes to kill off a villain. It drags episode by episode sometimes, so again it depends on what your specific tastes are. I also enjoy Bleach, a completely different storyline altogether, and rather dark, but humorous at times.

Of course I could bring up my childhood fave, Sailor Moon, but with the amount of fandom out there, I can see why some would rather not get into it right now. ;) Once again, its all a matter of preference. The good thing is anime has picked up so much lately that there's a lot out there, but finding what you are looking for exactly can be quite a challenge.

*Scribbles down all the titles furiously while reading posts*

Great! I've been looking into Maison Ikkoku for a while and perhaps Ranma 1/2 as well. It sounds like I definitely need to look into Hikaru no Go and FMA.

A question: how is 'Boys Over Flowers' or 'Hana Yori Dango'? I've been reading some reviews and this may just whet my appetite as well. What do you think?

Full Metal Panic is a must see if you like romantic action comedy (with mechs) and is old enough to be purchased at a reasonable price for the whole first season box set 8)

I have been recommending this for a while and have never had anyone that was less than thrilled. When you are done you can move along to Martain Successor Nadesco

Maison Ikkoku and Hana Yori Dango were my favorite anime to rewatch for about two years. I liked them both a lot.

Yeah it depends on what type of anime you like though.

Fate/Stay Night is a beautiful action anime with some romance thrown in.

Get Backers is a big favourite of mine as well, it's a hilarious show with a ton of action, plus very nice animation. ^_^

Kyou Kara Maou is an excellent anime with a medieval type setting + magic, but it does contain a bit of mild shounen ai.

Slayers is another excellent series, with comedy and a hint of romance. ^_^

Escaflowne is another medieval/romantic series, with both nice animation and music.

Last but not least, Ayashi no Ceres, which is by the same creator as FY. ^_^

Personnally I'm in animes with lots of atmosphere, gorgeous drawing and something a little dark and adult.

If you like this kind of animation too, the 3 series I'd strongly recommand to you are:

- 12 Kingdoms ("Juuni Kouki") as it is a Fushigi Yuugi for adults, incredibly addicting and complex.

- "Gankutsuou" which is a transposition of the Revenge of Count of Monte-Cristo in a future world. Graphics and technics are amazing, story is addictive and music is wonderfull.

- "Trinity Blood" is a good balance between fun and seriousness, with political backgrounds, vampires, nazis, future world...

I think I do.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

The only one on your list that I've seen completely is FMA, and I rather enjoyed it. It has that comedy factor that you seem to enjoy. Also, since you like Gokudo, I think you'll enjoy Slayers--they're kind of similar, only Slayers isn't quite as irreverent. :D For comedy, I'd recommend One Piece. :D :D

But, if you want something completely different, try Monster. It's suspenseful and thought-provoking. There's murders in it, but it does not get too graphic.
