The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Just so everyone knows I WILL be checking account usernames against ballots I received. Any duplicates will be thrown out and a message will be sent by me to the suspected party. At that point it will be a case by case basis. But I don't suspect many, if any at all, problems aside from the one that Toni found.
Also as I found you cannot submit an incomplete ballot. If you have submitted a ballot and you realize later you made a mistake please message me first, I will delete your original ballot and you can submit another.

SME wrote:I was wondering that myself. As much as I'd love to think that everyone who votes is going to be honest and use only their ID name, a few known individuals may try to ruin it by looking up names that were rarely used, or worse yet, use a current someone's ID as their own.
Known people? Like, you have specific people in mind you think might do this?
Honestly, it never crossed my mind before. Now that I think about it, though . . .
I thought of that problem as well. Here is several solutions for the individuals in charge:
1. For every ID, check Beta to see when that individual last logined in. Chances are if a persons ID hasn't logined in beta in over a month they wouldn't have even seen the beta awards and there obviously a fake.
2. Any duplicates simply contact the person to resubmit a new one and then prompt to email one of the individuals in charge so they can verify that you are indeed the person who just submited there ballot.
This should solve this problem.

will not solve the problem, if this person created an account extra for double-voting and could log in whenever he/she wants to pretend its real ... (-.-) ...
by the way ... if I know that earlier I would have included an IP-request or something like that in the voting form ... (>.<) ... I never would have guessed that this would be necessary ...
it's already on my todo-list for next year ...

thanks for letting me know the problem with the romance-category ... problem is solved ... I oversaw a little thing ... sorry!!!
You could actually do some pretty crafty things to make this less of an issue for future years:
1. Host the awards on Anime-Beta & make people log in through the forum in order to vote, thus capturing their username rather than allowing them to type it in. (This is rather far-fetched, of course, since the admins don't want to handle the awards and I don't blame them).
2. Have a script keep track of the votes for you and generate a file with all the original data (for verification that the system works later and for disputes). Logging the user's IP won't really help unless you have his/her IP from their last Beta login to compare with--only Beta mods and admins have this information. What you COULD do instead is set up an email confirmation system--the email address entered on the vote form must match the Beta member's registered email. You then send a confirmation email to the voter and they need to click a link in order to make their votes actually count. This kind of system can also ease the work load on the vote counter(s) since such a script would also be able to count votes as well ^_~.
