My sentiments exactly. The awards have always been about having fun ;) (At least last time I checked - otherwise, why bother?)

I hereby nominate every person who has criticized, complained, and squealed about security, fairness, and inadequate organization to do this next year. You really don't have a clue what you are talking about until you do this. It's like pulling back the curtain and seeing the Wizard, only he is mean, surly, and cursing at you while strangling a kitten. You cannot imagine the amount of venom being aimed at these people right now, or the absurdity they have to deal with. Just cut them a little slack and rest assured that they have your interests at heart. After all, that is what they are getting paid for...oh wait, they do this for nothing!

Very well. I complained about the site loading slowly over dial-up. I accept your nomination, and second myself to run next year's awards.

The Loebner Prize is an annual Turing Test sponsored by New York philanthropist Hugh Loebner. Dr. Wallace and ALICE won The Loebner Prize in 2000. The ALICE program was ranked "most human computer" by the panel of judges.

Zetsuai: No, I have not tried the alternate URL, because I went to the public library and used their free high-speed internet. :)

Read the fine print...
security, fairness, and inadequate organization
Complaining about slow loading pages does not fall under that category because it is a legitimate complaint. Sorry. :wink:

:advisory:
I was really surprised when - some time ago - I read the suggestion to change the rules and extend the submission period. I didn't like the idea but remained quiet.

I was even more astonished when people suggested changing the voting system two days before the voting period was scheduled to begin... but still, I didn't say a word.

By the time the discussion about security and fairness issues came up, I was largely annoyed.

And NOW you honestly want me to think/read about next year's Beta Awards??? Come on. We are in the middle of voting. Don't you think it's a little early for these kinds of thoughts?

I obviously cannot speak for the others, but I feel that with every new issue that has been raised I am loosing more and more interest in the Awards. I'm not even sure if it's worth the time to vote.

I agree with Makki!

You're not helping Brian... We should focus on this years Awards. And wait till next year. You're being counter productive.

The reality is that nothing has gone wrong and this year's awards are going to be fine from start to finish.
Since the announcment of this year's project, there have been a few posts on the forum that highlight some possible flaws in organisation and design but they're minor comments that have been blown out of proportion. In fact, I've been astonished by how some people have got carried away with this.

WC, Zetsuai, Syan and NSP have done a sterling job, once again I'd remind everyone to bypass much of sidetracked banter that's gone on which has detracted from the event itself.
It's not the awards iteself that get people worked up but this constant reemphasis on finding fault with something that's actually not an issue. It's easy for us to get caught up in these posts but take a step back and realise the reality that everything's perfect.

Now let me finish off that spliff. j/k
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me;
"Smile and be happy, things could be worse".
So I smiled and was happy
and behold;
things did get worse...

I suggest we stop the childish antics now and let the voting continue , see the results then all will have a year to disect , think about and discuss what worked and what did not.

Now is not the time to continue stirring the pot which some seem to have as their main pastime in life.
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison
