I've bought too much in such a short time frame :P

Nov 07 I only bought 2 cels
Dec 07 I bought 6 cels/sketches
Jan 08 so far I have bought close to 20 sets of artwork (cels/sketches/settei) - and January isn't over yet :emb

If it wasn't for deputy fees, I probably would've bought a lot more.

I complain that the cel supply is drying up yet there have been major surprises popping up. And even after trying to be picky, I still manage to blow a hole in my wallet in 07. Hopefully this yr will be slower for me /swt

SMJ invoice #350: 8/20/2007
SMJ invoice #400: 1/18/2008

[That includes a stretch of time between 4/06 and 9/07 when Vapalla and I were bidding as a consortium and splitting many lots between us, so the big surge during that time includes both our bids. Still, there don't seem to be any great dearth of things to bid on yet, and while my CCS and TnN collecting have both slowed dramatically, that's more a factor of having just about all the cels that I really wanted from those series than any sense that there's not stuff around any more to bid on.]

Holy crap guys! How the heck can anyone buy 55 items in a month!? Do you count the pages of an individual sketch set or each SET as one? That's a lot of buying! And I thought I was incredibly insane! Well, I am, but that is BESIDE the point! *nods*

:D If I included sketches I would have to increase my count by quite a bit. I am a bit crazy, but there's just been a bunch of great stuff recently. :wow:

Well ... if you count each individual sheet of paper, then that can seriously add up. My count above is of lots, which could include a cel (and maybe include a douga and bg and layout), but it could also comprise several sketch sets. One of my recent Inuyasha lots had 49 sketches (plus the timing sheet and cut bag) from one cut; another lot from KKJ included three cuts, layouts to dougas, with a total of more than a hundred sheets (many partials and so not displayable).

A lot Vapalla and I split amounted to three inches of acetate and paper from Tonde Buurin, maybe 500 items in all.

Yeah, of late the paper side of my collection has started to take up a lot of space in my office.

Most of my purchases are cels so I will only count them. The numbers for the last five years include freebies and the cel sets divided up as individual cels. That means there were fewer transactions than the total cel count suggests.

2002 - 60 cels
2003 - 66 cels
2004 - 52 cels
2005 - 48 cels
2006 - 63 cels
2007 - 53 cels

These numbers are still very deceiving. The number of cels per year is within a fairly narrow and consistent range. The amount of money I spent varies a lot more. The most expensive year was 2004, which was 2.5 times the amount I spent in the least expensive year (2003)

Yeah, I agree! Although I have been trying to significantly cut down on sketches and stay on specific cels. My spending habits are still AWFUL. I mean, the minute I decided to collect from the early age, my wallet has been imploding! But, even during my Bleach phase, I bought maybe 10 or 15 at the very most per month! Now, I HAVE to go back and check out everyone's gallery again. I have found my fellow crazy soul mates on this board! I love you guys! :ghug:

Well, I just sat down and counted to see how crazy I really am.
In 2007, I purchased a total of 24 cels, but that also included my 5 most expensive cels of my collection.

I think this year in 2008, I so far updated with 1. But, 2 are on the way this week, and 2 I am paying off for 8 months, which are by far the most expensive cels I have ever paid for by 3-4X (this counting each one)! So, that will put me at a total of 5 for 2008 so far, and I doubt I can by any more for the rest of the year. But, we will so how long that will last. :-)

In 2007, I purchased 32 cels, four cuts of sketches and one hanken.
In 2006, I purchased 58 cels, three douga and two hanken.
In 2004-2005(earliest I recorded), I purchased 77 cels.

Yes, I knew that 2006 was the largest year for me in numerical terms due to the plethora of Sailormoon auctions. Every week there was a seller who would generally post 1-3 auctions and I, along with many others, would plan our finances accordingly. It also didn't help that Mandarake had a zenbu that was largely dedicated to Sailormoon.

In 2007 though, this same seller ran out of stuff around February. After that, the amount of Sailormoon cels for sale on YJ was just a trickle. I spent the money that I would have used for SM items on the Inuyasha ED set and Cardcaptor Sakura.

In terms of volume and amount, my highest purchase months are November-January of any year I've recorded. I've noticed that, even for anime I don't collect, that higher grade cels/sketches generally appear during this period.

This year, though, seems to be a continuation of the trend of 2007. I don't plan to do a lot of purchasing this year.
