Teeth emergency! Taking offers!

Post by Priss-chan »

I was at the dentist last week, and it turned out that I had seven cavities, all caused by my braces (oh, what price smile, eh?). I got three of them fixed, but he also told me that it looks like I have a nasty case of periodontitis -- I have 50% bone loss under my front bottom teeth ("Not something I usually see in someone as young as you").

So to be blunt, I gotta raise money to get my other four cavities fixed and to get trays made for my teeth (to hold the antibiotic gel he'll be prescribing me), and get a scaling done (yeah, that sounds REAL pleasant...). Taking offers on my whole gallery! Help a girl keep her nice smile! :)

Ouch, sorry to hear about your troubles. If it's any consolation, the scaling shouldn't be a big deal. My dentist scales my teeth yearly as part of my cleaning. I find it less tramatic than the hygenist flossing my teeth (too bad she always does that too, lol).

Good luck!

Heh, the lady who flossed 'em last week was really rough. My gums were all throbbing afterward XD And then of course came getting the first three cavities done...

Part of me is freaked about the scaling thing 'cause the gums will recede (I don't care if it's temporary, the thought still scares me...I already have a little gum loss as it is). Part of me's sure I've had it done before but I just don't know :O I guess I'll just have to take it as it comes.

Sorry to say this but- I don't think receding gums go back to their original spot. At least, that's what my dentist tells me. Once gums have receded- that's it. The best you can do is prevent it from getting worse!

I'm real sorry to hear about your situation. I can completely sympathize; minus the braces. I have a pretty expensive smile myself- and still need work on it! :l
It's bad that your braces actually caused the damage though. Aren't those things s'posed to help not do more harm?? X|

Good luck with the sales. And even better luck with the dentist!

Well, what I've read is that they'll shrink after the irritant (plaque and tartar) has been removed but that they'll regenerate. I'm hoping I read right =P

I guess what happens is that the enamel behind the brackets will start to break down, which is what happened with me (doesn't even look like a traditional cavity, it'll just feel a little rough when you run your tongue over it). As for the periodontitis thing, well, I come from a family of bad teeth. It runs strong on both sides, which kinda doomed me even though I do brush (and try to floss) regularly :l I'm the only one who still has all her teeth! And after spending almost $3K on braces you can BET I want to keep them all for a long, long time!

And I am NOT having much luck with sales yet...
