Really, that had nothing to do with it. I didn't think "Oh, Priss-chan really wants this, let's destroy her day!". Contrary to belief, I am a nice person.

I don't take collecting personally so the fact I went for it means I really want it too. I'm sorry you didn't get it but I've been in the same boat as you before when it comes to being "rediculously" outbid. It's all swings and roundabouts in this hobby, especially when it comes to auctions.

I wish you luck with the sketches and if I sell Priss, you'll be the first to know.

Part of me is taking consolation in that the cel is going to someone I know who I know will take care of it. ^_^

(Though, I'll admit one of my first thoughts was that you thumbed your nose at me. I'm sorry. It's just been so long since I got so excited over a cel. I know you wouldn't do that.)

I guess it just threw me off that you bid, since you're more of a Nene fan. I mean, I know you have all those Priss concert cels, but outside of those, not a whole lot. Ah well, guess we both liked that shot :)

But mark my words...if I EVER see a "Makenai" cel of her (see my first post), it's MINE! XD

I second this.
Heh...considering how other threads have gone over the years, I hate to even post publicly saying "Good Luck" to anyone for fear of getting the other Beta member pissed off. :D

Privately I'll say it, but publicly...no. No, no no. :)

To be honest though, I also don't post it because I don't want other people to feel they shouldn't bid on something just because I happened to mention the item.

It also helps to "snipe yourself" on SMJ if you see it count down without an opposing bid. The service notifies you if another user tops your bid, but if that person does so in the last seconds, the notification will come too late. Instead, up your own bid by -- well considerably -- as if you were trying to beat someone else. It's "funny money" (so long as someone from outside doesn't come in at the end and extend the auction!) so you only pay a part of what you bid to defeat the other bid, so you can afford to be extravagant in these snipe bids.

I'm sorry that you lost -- that always hurts -- but at least you know where the cel is going. That way, there may be a second chance one of these days if the other owner needs to cash in some of her inventory.

Yes, I can see the situation. For lots of cels, I'm happy to let a fellow enthusiast take them as I know they are going to good homes. For a few . . . I'll take no prisoners.

So have 2 SMJ accounts? or use same account?

No, you just come in at the end and raise your bid. It's tricky to do this beforehand, or someone might come in from outside with a big bid and make you eat your reserve. But, as I say, if you're doing a bidwar with another SMJ bidder, you're playing with Monopoly money, where 1000 yen counts only $2.00. As Nick explains in one of his examples:
Won auction amount ¥12,500
User #1's bid = ¥16,000
User #2's bid = ¥24,000
Bidding War difference = ¥3,500 (High bid defeated - Won auction) or (¥16,000 - ¥12,500)
Bid War commission = $8.00

Instead of paying the difference of ¥3,500 (apx $30.00) as normal, you only pay $8.00!
In other words, if Bidder #1 were a Rinkya user and Bidder #2 were SMJ, then the auction would end at ¥16,500 and you'd be adding 4000 yen to the winning price. But since both are using SMJ, they're Bidwarring with Monopoly yen, and so the winner would pay the closing price plus only $8.00. So if the cel is truly a wishlist item, it makes sense to count it down and bid (something extravagant) in the last 20 sec. even if you're at the time the high bidder of record.

I once did bid on a very high wishlist lot using both SMJ and Rinkya, but then I was fighting a stubborn Japanside opponent and wanted to use smoke and mirrors to imply that there were two other bidders in the game. That was costly, but I won, and I've never regretted the price I paid.

Oh! I see! Image

You know SMJ or Rinkya should invent a YJ automated sniper system. Whoever makes the system will get the comissions!!! Image If anyone from SMJ or Rinkya reads this... you know what you should do!

If the price were abnormally low. I might have used the other deputy to bid the price up anyway.

Personally I would prefer to pay more by frequently bidding against myself than lose an auction for a fraction of my maximum mental bid. Losing an auction for a fraction of what I would have bid is annoying.

At least for me it is. Some people don't seem to mind very much. For those people I say...

Kanpai! :cheers :yay :bow

But seriously...I can't get too worked up over losing anymore because if I had wanted the item that badly I would have bid higher -- AND the ending price ended at a high enough amount that it didn't bother me so much to lose for that amount.

you know, I never liked this multiple bidders using the same DS - it just sort of isn't right at all. Yes, you the buyer make out as you only have to pay a fraction of what you bid (if you're bidding against another user of this DS) but the seller only sees the number of bids going up and up, with no profits being transfered to him (only to the DS).

I just wonder how many of us sellers would like it if we had this happen on the ebay auctions we had? Maybe it does and I don't know about it?

just my two cents... sorry Priss-chan for your loss - we all have been in the same boat before, but as you said, it's going to a good home...

Yeah that's understandable. I mostly dont post stuff I go for because I feel like Ill jinx it. Plus it just brings unwanted attention. But that's just my opinion

I meant to address this last night but kinda forgot. Just to clarify and hopefully eliminate any future confusion. ^_^
priss-chan wrote:I guess it just threw me off that you bid, since you're more of a Nene fan. I mean, I know you have all those Priss concert cels, but outside of those, not a whole lot.
I may have a very slight preference over Nene as a character but I like the whole of BGC which includes all the Sabers. Priss probably started out as my absolute favourite when I first saw the anime all those years ago but nowadays I appreciate each Saber, so they're all pretty much equal in my books.
I just tend to be picky with cels (even Nene ones) so sometimes I'll like the cel enough to bid and sometimes I won't. I was curious so I did a quick count and it looks like my Priss vs Nene cels are equal until I get the new Priss which would push her into the lead. I just don't want you to get any false assumptions in the future which could lead to painful situations like these. ^_^;

I feel the same which is why I generally don't like telling people what I'm going for unless I know the person well enough and they happen to ask me. I feel that everyone has the right to bid on what they want to. ^_^

I'm too lazy to do a count right now but it's a safe bet I have a lot more Priss cels than other KS cels ^_^;; You could chalk it up to the fact that Priss is my favorite chara, or the fact that the others just don't show up as often, LOL.

On that note...I've been collecting since 2000. Up until about two or three years ago, I'd only seen a handful of Sylvie cels and NO Anri cels whatsoever. Then suddenly they started showing up, and for some reason I managed to get them (Anri cels) for dirt cheap, when I fully expected to pay as much, if not more than, what I've paid for my Sylvies. And heck, even Sylvies have been showing up a lot more than they used to. I guess that means less of the Japanese collectors are into BGC anymore, but that's good news for the rest of us :)

(Vision cels still cost an arm and a leg though X| )
