I need a little help

Post by Sparta101 »

Someone contacted me wanting to buy 1 of my cels, they offered a fair price so I agreed to sell. the person said he had to pay in 2 parts because their was a limit on how much he could send via paypal so I agreed to most of the payment today then the rest as soon as it turn to the next day. Problem is the person sent payment via paypal I got the email, but when I checked my account I do not see it The payment was in spanish so I am not 100% sure what it says or means I translated it I was just hoping someone could tell me why I do not have the money in my paypal account. here is what it says in spanish then translated.

My sceptical side is telling me that no record of payment received in your Paypal account = no payment sent. ^_^;

Plus that email you received is more like the email the sender of the payment would get from Paypal, not the recipient. Card numbers and currency conversions only show for the sender.

Wait a bit.

International transactions will not post instantly, especially from Credit Cards. It does not mean something is wrong, just that it has to go thru another process. :?

Tell him that the transaction shows up, but has not been funded yet. He can send the second half and you will ship when the money clears.

What email address did this come from?

If it's not in your paypal, you don't have it. That's pretty simple.

Sometimes there is a little bit of a delay between the email and the paypal account update.

There was a ebay scammer several years ago who would send out fake paypal payment notices to try to get sellers to send the cels without really paying. Still, splitting the bill would make no sense, since that only increases the chances of getting caught. I am inclined to believe they are legit.

Oops it looks like glorff beat me to the punch.

yes it is technically International, but we are both from the EU (as I am from England) and that should make a difference pluss I have never had any problems from the USA, China, Singapore, Italy, France or even Australia pluss many other countries, I am just hoping this is by some way paypals fault, but then again its not like I will be sending my cel untill the money is in my account.

I'm spanish, and as Nene said, that's the kind of e-mail the sender gets, not the recipient, and it's still different of the ones i receive from paypal when i send payments. Mine don't mention anywhere the credit card number (that would be a big security issue). Maybe that e-mail is in txt format instead of the html ones that i get.

What sounds interesting about that e-mail is that it states that the payment has not been claimed yet by the recipient.

Anyway, you have it easy, as long as you don't see the money in your account you don't have to do anything.

You can always use the transaction ID of the e-mail to check it's validity on paypal. There's an option to track a payment using the ID.

Sounds like the person mimicked a previous order (with someone) to fit the price/date of an order with you for your cel. Like others have said, always check your paypal, never rely on "emails" to verify you have received payment.

Sounds like a lousy scam-artist to me.

Ditto to what everyone else have already said, be very wary and check your Paypal account through Paypal.com (not the email), to see whether any money has been desposited. I've used Paypal a lot over the years and I've never received an email before the payment has gone into my account, I understand there can soemtimes be a delay with receiving a payment through Paypal, but it usually says in your Paypal account that the money has been received, but it being processed or held...or something to that degree. To me, it sounds like a scam, I would forward the email to Paypal and they can confirm whether it's a real payment or not.

Oh well... I hope you sell the cel and he's not a scam artist!

I'm just curious though... What's the benefit of having the paypal balance in USD even though you're in the UK? Image

Is it because you buy lots of stuff from the USA??

Wait a few days before doing anything. I've had transactions where buyers have sent me payment via 'eCheck' and these take much longer than direct Paypal balance transfers or credit card payments.

It's possible that the email you received is confirming that a payment has been sent but the funds will still need to clear before showing up in your account.

If, after several working days, there is no change to your Paypal balance, do what the others have suggested and double check the transaction ID on the Paypal webpage to see what can be traced.
Like DS says, if no money shows up in your account at all, you haven't lost anything because the merch still remains safe in your posession.

It may be that Sparta has had his account for a long time. My default currency is USD too because that was the only currency Paypal used to trade in back in the early 2000's. I signed up to Paypal around this time when they were just permitting accounts to people outside the USA but the stipulation was that USD was the default currency.
That policy has, of couse, ended now but I still like the old default since I trade with Americans regularly and I think the fees may be slightly lower too.

Looks like the deal is not happening now, to be honest when he first emailed me I thought it was a scam, but after someone vouched for him, I thought I had nothing to lose and I would of been making a nice profit if by the small chance it was not a scam.

He said it was my paypal account that was at fault or that my address does not exist? pluss something about only being able to send $730 through his paypal at a time and not being able to change it. Pluss the transaction number is not found. He also wanted my bank details and my full name and address as he wanted to do a transfer not that I would ever give that info to anyone.

Why do I use USD just because almost everything I buy is in usd and its easy to remember what I paid for an item pluss with the exchange rates constantly changing it would be a pain to use £ having to change the price all the time.

I was thinking of posting his name to see if anyone has had any problems b4 as he has tried to sell me loads of cels which I have refused and just worried he may try agian with other people. I just do not know if I am justified to do so as I have not lost anything.

ps
thanx for all your help.
