Sensei's Farewell to 2008 Update!

Post by sensei »

Sensei’s last -- absolutely -- the last! update of the year introduces a new series gallery (the first -- absolutely-- the first! new series I’ve started collecting in 2008!) devoted to art from the well-reputed CGI series Genshiken.

There’s also some nice sketches, one set from Hyper Police, with a wonderful rough animator’s sketch of the fox-spirit Sakura about to do in the innocent cat-girl Natsuki.
From Episode One of CCS, come some nice new gengas, two showing the design of the Clow Book in detail, and one presenting a spooky image of Clow Reed creating the Cards.

Also, in case people missed this Christmas addition, a matching set of CCS cels from Ep. 65, one showing Sakura having her hair brushed in preparation for her role in Nakuru’s movie, and the other, an instant later, showing her in the grips of stage fright as her scene is called.

It is amazing to see how carefully Madhouse followed CLAMP's design for all the magickal objects. If I had time, I'd add some scans from the manga to show how exact they were. The "stage fright" was actually the cel that I really really wanted, even though it wasn't the one featured by the seller (you had to view the auction and click a thumb to see it). But having both of these on facing pages makes them both happier, rather than having them split up and sold separately.

Thank you! I always feel blessed when I get really interesting wins.

I was lucky to have a sheet of art paper that was exactly the same shade as Clow Reed's chair, which really made the colors in the cel in front "pop."

Thank you! I like how the stream of Cards seems to be coming and coming and coming down from the heavens, as if there are lots more Cards to be created. (I remember a thread once on a CCS board when people suggested Clow Cards that should have been in the deck, like The Invisible, or The Mind-Meld, or such)

Thanks for visiting, and a Happy New Year to all. May all your bids in 2009 be winners and may all the sharks and snipers sleep through their alarms.

Love to the Genshiken! I like how the color tests came along with the sets. It's nice to see the final product without having to find the screen cap. :emb

The CCS ep 1 genga are beautifully detailed as well! A fine way to bid farewell to the year!
