2008 Review and 2009 Sketch/Cel Resolutions

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.
I'm not quite sure. I don't feel enough happened for me to say.

2. The most surprising thing that happened to your gallery/collection.
The addition of my first hanken...never thought one would appeal enough AND be cheap enough for me. I usually don't find hanken poses/compositions very exciting.

3. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.
I believe I've only bought one item since April 2008....

4. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2009.
Buy something? But only if it gives me that 'must have' feeling that I haven't had in a while.

5. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2008?
Well, I bought some storage supplies: archival boxes and more Itoya. I need to get some more sleeves for sketches, but I kept putting that off. Being selective was not too hard (see #3). Now, I just need to apply that to the DVD/manga/merchandise purchases I seem to be making more and more of.

Naruto's fillers ended (I was waiting for a lot of shows of non filler before I started watching again...and look they are back into fillers

), so I got the bug again and started looking for nice sketches.

2. The most surprising thing that happened to your gallery/collection.

I revived it really. I asked someone to help me with a banner (props to Ippo). I've also started getting quality pieces.

3. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

My long layoff...I got some nice pieces in 2007...and then just..stopped looking. I stopped watching Naruto because the fillers started..but when it stopped I started getting interested again. Will I stop again now that the fillers started again ? hrms that worries me.

4. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2009.

Don't stop collecting. I have a problem with my personality, I go from thing to thing and obsess with it. Even if I stop buying...still look in-case something really special comes up.

Make a wishlist and stick to it (don't be scared of making one on rubberslug..find a way to capture screenshots to help). Decide what I really want..stick to OP's ? moments in the series I like ? specific characters ? Maybe a select of each. I don't see me buying more then 15 sets this year..and I've already got 4 (maybe 5 soon).
Organize while my collection is small..think ahead for storage and how I want to display things.

5. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2008?

I didn't have one in 2008, I guess my one for 2007 was to save and buy 1 really nice piece instead of 10 pieces that are so-so. I think I've done that when I came back...but the fact I've bought so much so soon..might point to a less selective perspective then I want.

Actually I'll start out by saying not Sasuke ( ): ). I'm not sure if it's because he seems to be most peoples favorite..I think he's drawn well..and you clearly understand his motivations, but he seems to just be selfish. Now that I've gotten that out of my system. I really like the fighting between Naruto and Sasuke. It brings out that Naruto will stand by you no matter what.

But the thing I like about Naruto (as a char.) is some of the silly stuff also...his frog purse that he talks too and hugs..his love of ramen..that little monster suit he sleeps in

I think Hinata is a pretty interesting char. I wish they spent more time on...born into the ruling family but never living up to expectations ..her crush on Naruto that never gets returned...her relationship with Neji. I just think there was a lot there that was never explored.

Gaara's interesting...I mean he started out as a homicidal manic ..and he's grown into a leader.

I was able to obtain several huge "wishlist" cels this past year; however, most are not updated in my gallery. see # 3

2. The most surprising thing that happened to your gallery/collection.
It suprises me how much I have acquired in paper, repros and rilezu items.

3. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.
What concerns me is my lack of effort to update. I have fallen way behind in updating and organizing my collection. Hopefully, I will work on this soon since my busy season at work is over.

4. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2009.
Be very, very selective when bidding or purchasing.

5. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2008?
Not sure if I had a resolution last year, but I did try to not add new series unless it had a lasting impact. I have stayed with about 5 main series for additions. Shounen Onmyouji was one series I went way overboard on, but I think I can keep to my resolution even for this series in 2009.
