Items that start with a 1, such as A1 and B1, are typically more desired simply because they are keys(items drawn by animators who have 10+ years of experience) and because they are the start of a sequence. Many items that begin with '1' come with complete set-ups, matching backgrounds, etc. Of course, there are many exceptions to this rule, so, it's best to check your DVDs prior to buying something because it's an A1 and it has a background.

What you choose to collect is up to you. There are some collectors who will only buy the start or end items. Many sequences consist of several 'key' cels/sketches, and the artwork done on a later sheet in the sequence might be more appealing to you than the A1. It may also be cheaper as well.

Actually, if this scene was done the same way as my "Yue Captured by Sakura's Magic," there was a "base douga" that showed all the parts that didn't move, and a series of "partials," one for A1, and one for all the cels that followed, that showed the moving parts. So there might not be a full A1 sketch, only an A1' partial plus (somewhere) one base douga to rule them all and in the darkness bind them.

You can get some insights by visiting the thumbnails in this gallery, starting here:

http://sensei.rubberslug.com/gallery/in ... mID=105450

(This was one of the middens I adopted: two nice Yue cels, one mouth layer between them, and nine swooshies and swirlies, plus the genga, the base douga, two partials dougas, and a non-matching copy bg.)

The Yue-usagi cel is pricy -- too high for me -- but since I've never seen another from this cut on the market, price is really immaterial. The only comparison I can make is a pan cel that I once considered of Yukito with bunny ears from the same scene, and that was offered to me at US$145 -- but when the seller looked at it more closely before we closed the deal, there were issues about its authenticity, and so the deal didn't go through. (It probably was a fancel that a Japanese dealer had marketed as a production item by the clever tactic of putting a bogus sequence number on the outside of the cel bag.)

So if a fake from this scene is worth US$145, then a genuine cel probably is worth what you paid.

Wow you know you're stuff Sensei! No wonder you go by that name. :)

So, everyone gets Yue's arm with that scene... cool! lol! So that means there's a base sketch with no arm out there somewhere? :)
That scene you have there is very awesome. Good work on getting it! the mechanics of cel animation are very interesting!

 Hmmmm it appears someone may have saw this topic and put both cels I posted on hold... they are soooooooooooo lucky I changed my mind our the fur would fly! :x

This thread will not be "Sarah finds you cels to buy topic!" :x

Yeah maybe i shouldn't of posted 'em but....

Don't worry. That's not the first Yue Bunny or Touya/Yukito cel I've seen. This hobby is all about patience. Sometimes months or years will go by before you get another chance at something, but those opportunities will appear.

Yeah, I agree that was rather rude.

The good news is that compared to some other shows, nice CCS cels pop up fairly frequently - even Yue and Yukito.

I don't have any recommendations beyond what others have said here. I just wanted to say welcome to the hobby. :D

Post by kathpatty »

Hopefully it was me that snagged the bunny !!
Sorry, but I saw the thread late and .......
Nintenpelican
I sent an email to the gundam club... 46,000 yen for bunny Yue Shocked That's over $700 in my native currency! I'm guessing it's so valuable as it is an end cel and bunny yue is pretty rare... lol but the bg isnt matching!

Ohhh he's got one from the famous scene... matching copy bg, no sketch = 26,000 is that worth it?
I thought I would go look and see ...it was still available at that point...First bunny Yue I ever saw and had to snag it and I missed out on a cel from this sequence on Anicyo a few months ago ...
http://www.gundam-club.com/cels/ccsakur ... -a-053.jpg

Hopefully I did get them :D :D
Didn't mean to snag them from you ...but as I saw the thread late...you did have first opportunity..........
I guess I am a bad person :(

To be fair to kathpatty, MDKiller1 posted one of the cels in question. And she did wait awhile before buying it. This is a hobby where rare items will sell quickly, so if it is something you think you'll regret not buying later, buy it as soon as you can (providing you can afford it).
From the tone of your previous posts, I had incorrectly assumed that the prices were too steep for you and that you were just expressing admiration for the pieces. Nothing wrong with a little window shopping! :) Kathpatty probably made the same judgment, which is why she went ahead and purchased both of them.

Post by kathpatty »

Never intended to take advantage...I was surprised they were still available...
Actually when I emailed , I was told that several people were interested and the prices were subject to change ....
Haven't heard back so don't know for sure, yet..
Fell in love with the bunny and have been hoping for a cel from the magic transference for awhile...as I said I was outbid several times on them...

It is true that with patience...cels will continue to show up...had you said you were going for it...I would not have tried
and....I do not take candy from babies !! :) PAX

Yes, I'd say kathpatty is to be excused -- if indeed she gets it, as such items often draw sharks, my nickname for well-funded overseas collectors, who gobble up such items into invisible vaults where they're never to be seen again. Unless the shark, of course, makes a bad investment, in which case the item may emerge again, as did that wonderful oversized set-up of Sakura flying out of Madoushi's world that Gundam Club has (NFS) on the first page. (I once was top bidder on that, for about 20 seconds...)

The nature of this hobby is that we are collecting unique art works. And so there is a power issue involved, as anthropologist Mary Douglas commented once. (Yes, I really am a college professor...). Owning such an object means that no one else can own it, or even see it, except by your permission. And so while you can say you "have" an extremely rare baseball card or limited-edition Thomas Kinkade ("the painter of light") lithograph or period photograph by Ansel Adams or engraving by Rembrandt, you don't "own" it because there were more than one of these created.

But you can "own" that A1 END cel with original matching background because when you have that, you have the only one in creation, the one that was put under the camera (you can see where the pushpins went in) to make the anime. Or you can "own" the original animator's sketches (complete with coffee stains and, sometimes, lists of who wants what from the Chinese take-out) when the details of some important scene was worked out for the first time. Now you, and only you, can hold these things.

But only if you act now.

Fortunately, now comes around more often than you might expect. Unfortunately, it comes at the same time for a lot of other potentially interested people. I've always felt less disappointed to know that something I tried for went to a member of the Beta community, because I could at least see it in its gallery and hope for a gallery sale or offers period sometime. I have been lucky to get a "second chance" more than once.

It can be disappointing, but truthfully the friendly competitiveness of animation art collecting is one of the things that makes it much more interesting, in my book, than stamp collecting or other similar hobbies.

^^^^ so much writing... getting dizzy...
(hang on bunny yue is not a1 end (is it?) and the bg doesn't match.... or you talking generally?

lol, okay people don't stress it's done and it's dusted. No harm done.
I guess my last post was a bit lame. Sorry, I apologise if I was a bit offensive in anyway.

I don't want this to go on. I want to just forget about the whole thing.
But to be fair, yes I did say the bunny was out of my budget at one stage in the topic... but the transfer scene one I was interested in and that's why i posted and asked if it was good value...
I sent an email to gundam club on wednesday and did not get their reply untill thursday morning... that's when i asked if it was good value. As you can see im 19 and at my age 26,000 yen is a lot to spend so you can see why i would of hesitated. So I was making up my mind that day and was going to sleep on it so to speak. Obivously kathpatty got in during what of been my late thursday night. So the next day it was too late for me.

But.. Yes I should of stated my intentions. On my part I should not asumed..

But anyways, who cares. No harm done. Just wanted to get my story out. :)
I guess Sensei is right in at least they will be on display in kath's gallery and not gone into obsucurity. :) :) :)
